Hi Music Club Memebers!
It's been a while. And I appologize for that. The flu, spring break, and midterms have been just a few of the things I've been dealing with.
So here's our Participation Activity for March. Because I really need some new music to listen to...we will be recommending music. Just name a: new / not well known / older artist who has released new stuff AND post a link of where you can LISTEN to that artist's music. You can find that at: the artist's website, Myspace Music, Amazon.com (clips), or anywhere else you can think of.
You can share any artist's music. As long as you don't name Kanye West, or Pink Floyd...or something extremely well known like that. (If you wanted to listen to their music you could just turn on the radio and hear it within 15 minutes.)
So here are my recommendations to you: (if you listen to them, comment and lemme know what you think!)
1) Regina Spektor: Listen to Soviet Kitsch Album Skip through and listen to "Ode to Divorce", "Poor Little Rich Boy", "Sailor Song", "Your Honor", and "Chemo Limo"...those are my favorites off this album. (A lot, I know. Hah)
Listen to Songs Album: Just listen to the first song, "Sampson"...it's gorgeous.

2) Pink: You all *have* to watch her new video for the song, Stupid Girls. Just go here. It's her website, and the video plays in the bottom left corner. I swear, this song is my *anthem*. It's also my ringtone.

Date: 2006-03-11 08:05 pm (UTC)The first is a band from the Netherlands, called Within Temptation. They're kind of well known, but not really. Like, overseas, everyone knows them. I think. But here in the US, no one has heard of them. They're a gothic rock band with a female singer. They are similar to Evanescence, but they're not as pop-rock. There are a couple different myspaces for them, with different songs. Since there are a lot, I'll just post two of them, with the best songs. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=28076091 and http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=30528794 ... I reccommend the songs Angels, See Who I Am, Jillian, and Stand my Ground.
The second is a pop-rock band from California called New Years Day. They are also female fronted - since that's like the only type of band I listen to. They had a song on the Myspace Records CD, but they still haven't taken off, though they should. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=7136489 - their official myspace.

Date: 2006-03-11 08:23 pm (UTC)There's also O.A.R. A page is here (http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/music/artist/card/0,,1043737,00.html) where you can click on an album title and listen to songs on that CD. I love "Nasim Joon" which is on their latest album, Stories of a Stranger.

Date: 2006-03-14 10:36 pm (UTC)Click here (http://www.bandbuilder.com/somethingcorporate/index.php?ref_code=D57397) and then click on launch and their song Ruthless should start to play :) If you look up in the top right hand corner you can actually listen to the whole CD by pressing next and such. North has quite a bit of variety. You can also watch their video for Space in that same little window. Yay for spreading So Co love. :)

2. Saves the Day, kinda on the same stuff as So Co, but nothing compares to So Co. If anyone has heard of Reliant K before they went mainstream, the kinda of joking music, that's what Saves the Day is. You can listen to clips here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005M977/sr=8-1/qid=1142374844/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-6540755-9475360?%5Fencoding=UTF8) but since I don't have WMP I can't test to see which ones work well, so just look around :p.

3. Relient K, the old years. Sadly I know that you can hear them on the radio now but not the Reliant K I fell in love with. My favourite CD by them is Two Lefts Don't Make A Right...But Three Do. Which you can listen to clips of songs here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008H2JU/qid=1115749259/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl15/103-3408119-4709432?n=507846&s=music&v=glance). They weren't always so poppy :(
www.relientK.com - be warned, a lot of their mainstream stuff is on here

Date: 2006-03-15 10:06 am (UTC)2. Lali Puna (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=35231820) - gorgeous electronica. They're a German band who are really, really underrated. You don't even have to be a big electronica fan to like them. My favourite track, which isn't on their myspace, is 'Crawling By Numbers'. Again, easy going music - it's not loud and aggressive.

Date: 2006-03-16 01:49 am (UTC)2. Fighting Gravity (http://www.fightinggravity.com). I've known this band since my early days in high school (sometime in the mid to late 90s.) They're home base is Richmond and they would come play free concerts at the beach (Virginia Beach) all the time. My friends and I spent many, many hours rocking out at their shows. I don't know how recent their site is, or even when the latest album was dropped. (Another thing I'm not good at keeping up with.) They're mostly ska, from what I remember, and they're best seen live, but the albums aren't too bad either. You can listen directly from their main page, but if you look under discography, I think you can access more.

(Also, I have a quick question. Can we come back and make more comments with other artists later? These are the only two I can think of right now that I know where to hear their music online (other than directing people to buy stuff from iTunes.) Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm new and just want to be sure.)

Date: 2006-03-26 03:55 pm (UTC)The Sibling Project (http://www.myspace.com/thesiblingproject)
they kinda sound like mates of state
So here are two of my friends bands:
ten and two (http://www.myspace.com/tenandtwo) are like 3 of my good friends
they go on tour every summer around the east coast
and one played at the taste of chaos tour
veda skyes (http://www.myspace.com/vedaskyes)
the locals ;o)
Date: 2006-03-28 04:24 am (UTC)Brian Douglas is the first recommendation, and he plays pretty, acousticky folk-rock kind of stuff: http://www.myspace.com/briandouglasphillips
Autumn Lights is hands down, one of my favorite bands of all time. They remind me a lot of really mellow instrumental rock bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky, and Kopecky. Kicking butt, with a cello!: http://www.myspace.com/autumnlights
Kopecky is also pretty stuff, if you haven't heard of them before, either, and their site's http://kopecky.8m.com/ (They're more rock than Autumn Lights, but very similar to Explosions).
Ninja Death Accessory is another great band that is more loud indie rock than anything else: http://www.myspace.com/theninjadeathaccessory / / http://www.ninjarock.com
