Hi Music Club Memebers!

It's been a while. And I appologize for that. The flu, spring break, and midterms have been just a few of the things I've been dealing with.

So here's our Participation Activity for March. Because I really need some new music to listen to...we will be recommending music. Just name a: new / not well known / older artist who has released new stuff AND post a link of where you can LISTEN to that artist's music. You can find that at: the artist's website, Myspace Music, Amazon.com (clips), or anywhere else you can think of.

You can share any artist's music. As long as you don't name Kanye West, or Pink Floyd...or something extremely well known like that. (If you wanted to listen to their music you could just turn on the radio and hear it within 15 minutes.)

So here are my recommendations to you: (if you listen to them, comment and lemme know what you think!)

1) Regina Spektor: Listen to Soviet Kitsch Album Skip through and listen to "Ode to Divorce", "Poor Little Rich Boy", "Sailor Song", "Your Honor", and "Chemo Limo"...those are my favorites off this album. (A lot, I know. Hah)
Listen to Songs Album: Just listen to the first song, "Sampson"...it's gorgeous.

2) Pink: You all *have* to watch her new video for the song, Stupid Girls. Just go here. It's her website, and the video plays in the bottom left corner. I swear, this song is my *anthem*. It's also my ringtone.

Just two for now, though I have others I need to find places to hear their music. They are both considered darkwave or goth, however listen to the lyrics, especially for The Crüxshadows (CXS). CXS has beautiful imagery and really inspiring lyrics.

The Crüxshadows - Hands down my favorite Band. My favorite songs are: Forever Last, Marilyn My Bitterness, Dragonfly, Helen, After All, Sinking, and many many more. They only have Forever Last on their website: http://www.cruxshadows.com - but you can here more music at their official MySpace site: http://www.myspace.com/officialcruxshadows

Ego Likeness - Saw and met them for the first time during the last Crüxshadows concert. Songs: Wolves, Water to the Dead, Axis. You can download MP3's and see lyrics here: http://www.egolikeness.com/music.php_files/water.html

1) Nightmare of You 'I want to be buried in your back Yard' is amazing and Thumbelina makes me laugh. http://myspace.com/nightmareofyou (http://myspace.com/nightmareofyou)

2) Ariel Pink My favourite song (every night I die at miyagis) isn't actually up to listen to, but I lovelovelove the Smiths cover (this night has opened my eyes) almost as much. http://myspace.com/arielpink (http://myspace.com/arielpink)

I have two.

The first is a band from the Netherlands, called Within Temptation. They're kind of well known, but not really. Like, overseas, everyone knows them. I think. But here in the US, no one has heard of them. They're a gothic rock band with a female singer. They are similar to Evanescence, but they're not as pop-rock. There are a couple different myspaces for them, with different songs. Since there are a lot, I'll just post two of them, with the best songs. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=28076091 and http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=30528794 ... I reccommend the songs Angels, See Who I Am, Jillian, and Stand my Ground.

The second is a pop-rock band from California called New Years Day. They are also female fronted - since that's like the only type of band I listen to. They had a song on the Myspace Records CD, but they still haven't taken off, though they should. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=7136489 - their official myspace.

I must recommend The Cribs. They are simply amazing. You can listen here (http://www.smokecds.com/cd/35888). My personal favorites are "You Were Always the One," "Things You Should Be Knowing" and "Learning How to Fight." But all of them are great.

There's also O.A.R. A page is here (http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/music/artist/card/0,,1043737,00.html) where you can click on an album title and listen to songs on that CD. I love "Nasim Joon" which is on their latest album, Stories of a Stranger.

1. i've shared this song with my flist and i am so happy to it share here too :) Strays Don't Sleep - "For Blue Skies" (http://www.myspace.com/straysdontsleep). I first heard this song on One Tree Hill (and i believe it is on the latest OTH CD) and fell in love with it.

2. Also, go to listen to Josh Kelley (http://www.joshkelley.com/new/main/). I heard him on a radio interview where he gave a impromptu performance of his song "Almost Honest". So good!

1. Alright some people have already heard my Something Corporate rant but I really love these guys, they're deffinatly my favourite band EVAIR! Right when they were about to break it big and go on Vans Warped Tour for the third time or so, the lead singer Andrew McMahon got Lukemia and had to go in for chemo and such. Since then he's been playing more with Jack's Menequine but I know that So Co was back in the studio and I'm greatly looking foreward to it. I found out about these guys 4 years or so ago and have been attached ever since. My favourite album for them is Leaving through the window though the site where I found the music is from their 2nd big album North.

Click here (http://www.bandbuilder.com/somethingcorporate/index.php?ref_code=D57397) and then click on launch and their song Ruthless should start to play :) If you look up in the top right hand corner you can actually listen to the whole CD by pressing next and such. North has quite a bit of variety. You can also watch their video for Space in that same little window. Yay for spreading So Co love. :)

www.somethingcorporate.com

2. Saves the Day, kinda on the same stuff as So Co, but nothing compares to So Co. If anyone has heard of Reliant K before they went mainstream, the kinda of joking music, that's what Saves the Day is. You can listen to clips here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005M977/sr=8-1/qid=1142374844/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-6540755-9475360?%5Fencoding=UTF8) but since I don't have WMP I can't test to see which ones work well, so just look around :p.

www.savestheday.com

3. Relient K, the old years. Sadly I know that you can hear them on the radio now but not the Reliant K I fell in love with. My favourite CD by them is Two Lefts Don't Make A Right...But Three Do. Which you can listen to clips of songs here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008H2JU/qid=1115749259/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl15/103-3408119-4709432?n=507846&s=music&v=glance). They weren't always so poppy :(

www.relientK.com - be warned, a lot of their mainstream stuff is on here

1. CocoRosie (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=3821353) - They are a lo-fi folkish type band consisting of two members - Sierra and Bianca. Very mellow and very chilled stuff - good for listening to if you're trying to work and such. They've collaborated with lots of people in the psych-folk scene, so if you like people like Kimya Dawson, Joanna Newsom and Devendra Banhart, they're worth checking out.

2. Lali Puna (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=35231820) - gorgeous electronica. They're a German band who are really, really underrated. You don't even have to be a big electronica fan to like them. My favourite track, which isn't on their myspace, is 'Crawling By Numbers'. Again, easy going music - it's not loud and aggressive.

1. Shannon Curfman (http://www.shannoncurfman.com). She's a little bit country, a little bit rock'n'roll, a little bit blues and I love her very much. I don't think she's very well known, but I'm terrible at keeping up with that sort of thing. Interesting fact: She's only 14! To listen to some of her music, go to her site (linked above) and go to "CDs&Lyrics" then scroll down and you'll find a guitar pick that says "listen to Shannon." There's even a couple of videos of her, too.

2. Fighting Gravity (http://www.fightinggravity.com). I've known this band since my early days in high school (sometime in the mid to late 90s.) They're home base is Richmond and they would come play free concerts at the beach (Virginia Beach) all the time. My friends and I spent many, many hours rocking out at their shows. I don't know how recent their site is, or even when the latest album was dropped. (Another thing I'm not good at keeping up with.) They're mostly ska, from what I remember, and they're best seen live, but the albums aren't too bad either. You can listen directly from their main page, but if you look under discography, I think you can access more.

Laura//Ravenclaw

(Also, I have a quick question. Can we come back and make more comments with other artists later? These are the only two I can think of right now that I know where to hear their music online (other than directing people to buy stuff from iTunes.) Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm new and just want to be sure.)

A friend of mine (the lead singer) is in a band called The Hollywood Kills. They're pretty spiffy, if you ask me, and the lead singer = total hottie. I was in a musical with him, and got to sing 2 duets with him and pretty much fell in love everytime.

And these 2 are just too awesome to pass up. The Dresden Dolls.

Sounds like a good opportunity to recommend some of my favorite local bands to folks beyond Waco, TX...

Brian Douglas is the first recommendation, and he plays pretty, acousticky folk-rock kind of stuff: http://www.myspace.com/briandouglasphillips

Autumn Lights is hands down, one of my favorite bands of all time. They remind me a lot of really mellow instrumental rock bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky, and Kopecky. Kicking butt, with a cello!: http://www.myspace.com/autumnlights

Kopecky is also pretty stuff, if you haven't heard of them before, either, and their site's http://kopecky.8m.com/ (They're more rock than Autumn Lights, but very similar to Explosions).

Ninja Death Accessory is another great band that is more loud indie rock than anything else: http://www.myspace.com/theninjadeathaccessory / / http://www.ninjarock.com
