You always thought 78 was a strange number of cards for a Tarot deck. It wasn't until you started researching its history for a project that you notice telltale signs of a magical disruption. You notice that something has been erased from memory. Without hesitating you slip into the Restricted Section and pull out the oldest, most arcane tome on the subject, and you see something you didn't expect to see: 92 is no less strange a number, but this acquired knowledge is huge.

Activity Name: The Missing Suit
End Date: Sunday 18th August @ 15:00 UTC + 48 hours voting period.
Points: Repetitive Activity: 1st/2nd/3rd/Participation Only: 50/40/30/10 points.
Details: Did you know there was a fifth suit that belonged to the Tarot deck? It's true! Help us design a fifth minor suit, summarise what it symbolises, and see how it all fits together!

Hello all!

I have a bit of an awkward month ahead, so I'm going to do a voting activity for you all.

A bespoke suit for the occasion )

The future will look bleak if you forget to sign the ROSTER!

Activity Name: A Retroactive Retroactivity
Points: Repetitive Activity: Participation & Additional comments: 2pts. 30pts limit
Details: Can you anticipate something you haven't even read yet? The notorious ABC-sentence story game with a twist.

The activity is over! Thank you to all who took part! Let's just jump straight to the points:

Here we go! )

GRYFFINDOR: 176 points
HUFFLEPUFF: 82 points
RAVENCLAW: 46 points
SLYTHERIN: 34 points

Gryffindor take an emphatic win! Get it lions!

I'm pretty sure this is accurate, but let me know if I'm wrong. Also, once I've done some formatting, And just for kicks, I've posted the story itself in the gap below! How nifty is that, eh? :)

EDIT: Want to read the story we wrote? It's right here:

Thanks for taking part! The next Divination activity is already up! Go forth and post! Please? ;__;

Hi all!

This reminder is to inform you guys that the Divination Club activity ends tomorrow, 17th July @ 11:59pm UTC! The story's been progressing nicely towards the beginning and has been surprisingly coherent, too. Let's see how much further we can go!

Activity is here: http://hh-clubs.livejournal.com/2149845.html?page=5#t75550933
Roster is here: http://hh-clubs.livejournal.com/1560024.html

Hi guys!

This is a reminder that the Crystal Ball Gazing activity ends in 20 hours or so. It's potentially easy points despite photobucket being a stubborn asshole despite due configurations *fume*. Can you see magic eye pics? Failing that, can you deduce any of the objects from the not-so-subtle-and-occasionally-utterly-tenuous clues provided?

Participation thus far is very low. I appreciate it's Zombie Jesus Weekend, but if you've got the Sight, it can be quite easy to rack points up.

Try it out!

http://hh-clubs.livejournal.com/2056816.html#t72440176
[identity profile] anbyrobanby.livejournal.com
The problem with studying crystal balls is they're only ever kept in the Divination classroom, and by extension, only accessable for a couple of hours a week. Still, you persevere, and after making yourself cross-eyed for what feels like weeks, some shapes ripple forth from within the infinite depths of the glass.

Activity Name: Crystal Ball Gazing
End Date: Sunday, 31st March @ 22:00 UTC
Points: Participations only: 10pts
Details: You will be presented with 10 "magic eye" pics. Can you gaze deep within its depths and unlock the hidden symbols? Point for each one you get right.

Sorry this is so late; because I'm so utterly awesome I submitted this to the system as 2012, and only corrected it a couple of days ago. ¬__¬

The activity is as follows:

Below the cut I have provided you with ten "magic eye" images I have made. What I want you to do is stare at them until you discover the image hidden within the rendering.

Because it may not always be easy or obvious, each link will come with a (usually vague) clue to give you a point of reference. The clues will be Divination themed, because I'm like that. Identify each one and score a point, for a maximum of ten!

Cross your eyes and hope to scry )

Comments are screened, and bonus points from the ROSTER can only match the points you earn here, not exceed them.

There can be tricky to master, but once you get the knack, the rest should follow fairly easily, and once you've got the grip of it, you should retain it for life. Think of it as riding a bike, but with your eyes crossed.

Good luck!

Activity: The Year of the Snake
Points: Repetitive activity: 2pts per comment. 30pts limit.
Details: 新年快乐! 恭喜发财! 多余汉字! It's Chinese New Year, and we want to celebrate the Eastern Zodiac! On a selection of 500x500 images, adorn new graphics to make a beautiful mural for all to enjoy!

Aaaand my internet has returned. Zing.

I'll cut straight to the results: the collages we made are certainly worth a gander!

Results! )

Hopefully when normalicy returns, so will an activity. I'd better get cracking on this scattegories game from Hogsmeade now.....
[identity profile] anbyrobanby.livejournal.com

You're sat on your usual pouffe in the Divination classroom, and halfway through an afternoon class, three boys at the back of the room scream 'Happy New Year!' at the top of their lungs. Trelawney, initially angry, checks a watch with stars and planets, sees the little moon lying on top of the Sun, and on doing so, praises the boys and awards them ten house points apiece. The rest of the class goes off on a tangent, for which you're always grateful.

Activity: The Year of the Snake
Points: Repetitive activity: 2pts per comment. 30pts limit.
Deadline: 22nd February @ 11:59PM UTC.
Details: 新年快乐! 恭喜发财! 多余汉字! It\'s Chinese New Year, and we want to celebrate the Eastern Zodiac! On a selection of 500x500 images, adorn new graphics to make a beautiful mural for all to enjoy!

OK, so! As some of you are surely aware, this weekend is Chinese New Year! In particular, it's the Year of the Snake, which I'm sure will please our dungeon dwellers. ;) Because of this, I'd like you all to celebrate the Chinese Zodiac and the animals within!

I will provide you with twelve 500x500 base images: one for each year of the calendar. Copy it to some graphics package and please add something relevant (however tangentially!!) to the base image. The next person will take your submission and adorn it with further edits. They reply to your comment, and someone else can take theirs further, too. This will continue on until the deadline. Each submission you post is worth 2 points in itself, and are capped at 30 overall. By the time we're done, the base images should be collages of the highest calibre. Simples! :D

Kung hei fat choi-Chang~ )

Oh, one more thing: I'm aware that this could/will become incredibly image-heavy. Therefore, please feel free to use LJ-spoiler tags! I'll provide a codebox for you all to use, but they're basically straightforward. :P

The future will look bleak if you forget to sign the ROSTER!

Eek, so.

This actually ended last night, but due to a foolish mix of forseen circumstances (snow; being out of town for a week) leading on to unforseen circumstances (me being marooned at work overnight OH GOD KILL ME NOW) I was neither able to close this properly nor give a shout of warning that this was due.

Because of this, extension to 20th January, @ 11:59PM UTC. There's still plenty of time to max out, and ample capacity to do so. So yeah, you'll have almost a day and a half from now, basically. :)

ACTIVITY LINK HERE

Yep, there we go. *watches new year resolution whizz out the window* I'm gonna get some sleep; you guys enjoy this o/

It is December 21, 2012, and you have finished at Hogwarts for Christmas. You have been listening to Muggles in your vicinity inanely prattling on about how the world was meant to end today, apparently because the Mayans forgot to change their calendar, or something like that. Amused, you take a break from your homework and start exploring some of the more imaginative portentious prophecies of mankind.

Activity Name: The End of the World As We Know It
Deadline: Sunday, 30th December @ 11:59PM UTC
Points: Participation Only, 10 points
Details: With the world supposedly ending today, we look at some of the more colourful prophecies of doom that have been made in the past. Trivia quiz, with 1 point per correct answer. Bonus items may not exceed earned points.

OK, so! Still with us? Cool.

So, today is supposed to be the Mayan apocalypse. You know, that end-of-the-world prediction that the Mayans never actually made? Should you happen to survive the holiday season, you might want something to take your mind off things. And what better way to negate the feelings of impending doom than.... a quiz about impending doom???! :D

Below is a trivia quiz. Ten questions. You get a point for each one you get right. Comments are screened, and there's no prize for coming first or anything, so take your time. There's a fair mix of history, mythology and/or pseudoscience involved with some of these, so feel free to have a bit of a read: I found it interesting to research. :)

Activity Name: Minority Reports
Points: 1st/2nd/3rd/Participation Only: 50/40/30/10 points.
Details: This game will combine the two divinationy skills of predicting trends and influencing social conventions. Forsee the outcome of 10 threads on what you believe will be the LEAST favoured outcome each time. 10 pts for taking part in all ten threads, with placement for the greatest accuracy.

Aaand the results are in!

It was a tough battle, but we've finally worked through your votes, and can I just say thank you for the wonderful turnout from all houses? I've wanted to do a game like this for a few terms now, so the fact it got good representation from all round made it the gruelling battle I'd hoped it would be :)

I'm going to reveal this question-by-question. You might want to open the original game post in a seperate tab. You'll only be able to see your own votes, and can compare them with the outcomes! There were a couple of people who didn't vote for a stipulated option, but gave a response close enough for me to know what they meant (eg, answering YES to a true/false question). In these instances, I just allowed it to stand.

As I'd said in the beginning, I'll probably unscreen everyone's votes once we're finished and done with. But for now, let's look at our own ones, yeah? :)

The votes are in..... )
I like how some of the questions formulated clear minorities, whilst others had a much tighter outcome. Also, a few of them ended up with runaway majorities. Interesting psychological games afoot?

Anyway, in the grand scheme of things, what's happened? It's time to announce the results!

Placement: The Most Special Snowflakes! )

I'll try and upload a full breakdown of votes, points and suchwhats if I get the chance tomorrow- I know there's plenty of people round here who are suitably geeky to love that kind of review opportunity. I'll also look at uploading everything as a google document.

Breakdown of points! )

Activity: Hall of Prophecy
Points: 1st/2nd/3rd/Participation - 50/40/30/10 points.
Scenario: A race through the Hall of Prophecy! Find the 10 scavenger hunt clues among the Divinationy clutter, and submit it as fast as you can... but be warned, there's a secret twist at the end! Optional participation only hunt is available for 10 points only.

The results are in for this Scavenger Hunt!

I wanted to set you all something that was a little more challenging and lateral than the norm (we've had a lot of very simple activities in Divination this term.... you didn't think you'd get off completely free did you?)

Revelations )

Also, many people didn't get all 10 clues, regardless of whether it was time trial or participation only (I believe many were prioritising the Amazing Race). So however you did, you're in good company. So, shall we face the moment of truth?

You are listening to Professor Trelawney prattle on about something mundane one morning, when she suddenly freezes mid-sentence. Her demeanour changes as she emits a haunting prediction about your journey into the bowels of the Ministry of Magic to unlock a long-forgotten secret. Within moments, she has snapped out of the trance and carries on as before. You and your friends look uneasily at one another, and realise you won't relax until you solve the mystery.

Activity: Hall of Prophecy

Yes! It's a 24 hours behind schedule scavenger hunt! You're looking for a series of Prophecies within the Hall of Prophecy. Complete a chain of 10 clues correctly, and you'll score 10 points. To advance in the Amazing Race, you must get at least 6 correct. Bonus item points may never exceed participation points.

Activity: Astrology Prediction Chart
Points: Repetitive Activity: Participation & Additional comments: 2pts. 30pts limit.
Scenario: Predict the events of the coming month or so based on what the planets are telling you. In true Divination fashion, the month will slowly get more and more tragic and hyperbolic as we go on. 2 points per sentence contributed, for 30 max. This activity was based on a suggestion by [livejournal.com profile] starianprincess who earns Gryffindor a further 5 points if she participates.

Results are in on this activity! I'm confident that if we handed in our joint homework assignment to Trelawney, we'd get a pass. It might only be an Acceptable (there was an awful lot of happiness in thems predictions, and we all know how allergic she is to people NOT dying miserable deaths in the coming months), but I think we'll live. Depends on how much cooking sherry she's had.

Anyway! Results!

Yey, I did it!

The Divination Roster has had a bit of a (late) Spring clean.

  • If you've signed my roster within the last 4 months (ie, since late January 2012), you have been SPARED MY PURGE.
  • If your name is on the list but it shouldn't be (ie, you have participated in at least one activity I've run), please link and you'll be added back. Comments are screened.
  • If you know of anything else I should consider (eg, LJ name changes), again, drop me a message here. Comments are screened.

Please point out any mistakes I've made within the coming 24 hours, cos I'm a bit of a div like that. A new activity coming soon! ♥

    Evening one and all,

You have just over 48 hours to submit an entry to this here Predictive Text Challenge!

We've had decent levels of participation, but there's always opportunity for more faces, ne? Remember that it's ONLY points for submitting an entry, not for guessing or anything! Just bung your quote of choice through your phone and voila, garbage output for points! :D

Oh yeah, that roster sweep (the one i've been promising since March) is still happening, but make sure your name is on the roster if you're participating- I shan't purge you if you're a recent conscriptee.

This is a quick and slightly desperate reminder that the Divination activity's submissions period ends tomorrow! Please submit your entries here.

We really, really, really REALLY could benefit from more submissions.... as right now the amount of cards entered I could count on one hand. With fingers to spare. :(

So c'mon guys! I'll love you forever if we get a great surge of entries!!

The end of term approaches, and you are practicing for a subject that actually counts for something, Charms, by trying to vaanish objects from a subject that doesn't count for anything: Divination. A botched attempt when you lapse concentration, and all you manage to Vanish is the face design of the Seven of Cups. Realising you probably shouldn't be practicing with these at all, you quickly grab a quill and doodle a smiley face surrounded by a bunch of goblets. Amused, you decide to leave this one as it is.
