As the Animagus Board is slowly making progress working its way through the current applications, I think it's time to announce a new rule:
Before you apply to become an animagus, you have to buy the first 5 books of the Standard Book of Spells Series at
hh_diagon.
Why? Well, becoming an animagus is *difficult*. Not just any first year student can become one. The books symbolize the years you spend at Hogwarts and having 5 of them means you're a 5th year student (in this club) and able to become an animagus.
So, off you go, earn knuts, buy the books, then apply!
Please fill out the application using the code below and add at the end =)
Please comment below (in screened comments) with your application, and we will get back to you within a few days. Please be detailed in your application. Same goes for this one as the one for
platform_934: explain your answers. We have millions of animals to pick from, not just 4 houses, so help us out a little by giving a detailed application. Thank you!

Re: Part 3?!

Date: 2005-05-03 11:38 pm (UTC)House: Gryffindor!
Best Trait: I think my best trait is probably my empathy. I care so much about other people, even if I despise them and more. Sometimes it can be a curse, because it will affect my mood, but I'm glad I care so much. More people need to.
Worst Trait: Currently I hate the procrastinator in me with a passion. As hard as I try to get going on essays, projects, homework, I always end up doing things at the last minute. If there were one thing I could change about myself, that would be it.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? I want my animal form to be capable of being strong yet kind, intelligent yet relaxed. Most of all, I want my animal
to bring me cookiesto compliment myself, in both bad traits and good traits. When I think about my animagus, I'd like to experience a feeling of warmth and completion. Hard to explain, I know, but I hope that helps?Choose one of the following Earth
Warm or cool? Warm
Morning or evening? Evening
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? Depends on the people. But for the most part, I like to be around others.
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome!
The picture doesn't show it, but I'm quite tall (5 foot 8 inches) and my hair is past my shoulders.
What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? I play volleyball (most sports), I love creative writing, I play the violin, cooking is fun, anything creative like re-decorating my room, binder, etc. You should see my computer desk o.O;
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with? I particularly like turtles, dogs, rabbits, and large felines (like tigers). Honestly, I've been asked so many times "If you were an animal, what would you be?" and I have no answer to that. I really don't know.
Are there any animals you are afraid of? Nope. Unless you count baboons.
Why would you like to be an animagus? Like I said, I have no idea what animal I would be. So it should be interesting to see what others think of me as, though I have one friend who thinks I'd be like a turtle.
Have fun!

Date: 2005-05-21 07:07 am (UTC)Best Trait: I'd have to say my open-mindness. Never will I judge someone/something on the outer appearence or looks. That's just wrong in my point of view. You can have so many things in common with someone who people think is the complete opposite of you, and to me that's fine. :)
Worst Trait: I can be sensitive at times. I don't really mean to be, I think I was rather born with it.. I guess. I can take things very harshly and deep, and it doesn't always have to be something cruel or mean. I think I just make it that way.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? Speed. I think speed is a great and important neccesity for an animal, because it can have so many advantages when dealing with certain circumstances.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth. I've always been afraid of heights my whole life, which is terrible I know. And I haven't always been so keen in the water. I usually get so tired swimming. I also have a fear of drowning. UGH!
Warm or cool? warm. I absolutely love warm weather. Not too hot and not too cold. It's just nice. I think when the weather IS just right, you find yourself not always worrying about if it is too hot or too cold. Your thoughts in your head are clear, until you think of something. hahah.
Morning or evening? Evening. I've never been a morning person. I just usually have a hard time getting up in the morning. That's why I schedule all my college classes in the afternoon and evening. :)
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? I like to have people around me. I never felt comfortable being alone or by myself.. I feel more comfortable around people/peers. I think it's just having the company of another person is gratifying.
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome!
Okay well, I'm 5`1 1/2. I weigh 100 lbs. I have long brown hair, brown eyes. I'm tan (Mom's from the Phillipines). I have big feet and hands (which I'm not very proud of).
here are some pictures (bare with me, they're heinous) :(
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v85/erinypies14/erinpicturess.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v85/erinypies14/erinhunter2.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/erinpie/100_1368.jpg
they're the only ones I can find at the moment. hahaha. I'm sorry.
What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? I like to do alot of things. I like to watch movies, I like to go shopping, I LOVE to eat. Yea, I love food, but I don't think that's considered a hobby. Um, I sometimes go fishing with my dad. I did track & field in high school. And that's about it. I usually don't have time to do much, because I work most of the time. I work at a mexican restaurant with my sister
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with? Well, I DO love all animals, but I think I'm very fond of cats and dogs. hehee. I have 1 dog and 3 cats at the moment. My family does love animals. We always usually find strays and have to keep them or give them to the NO KILL s.p.c.a's. But ya, all my animals I have were either given away free, found, or picked up from the s.p.c.a.
Are there any animals you are afraid of? I guess I'd have to say bears. There are a few bears here where I live, and some can be pretty vicious. Although, I do think the baby bears are adorable and cute. :) I'm also afraid of Porcipines. I hate needles, and needless to say those things are filled with them. yuck. but they are cute I must admit, I would never try to pet one.
Why would you like to be an animagus? Who wouldn't want to be? I think it's great. Although I did feel bad for Remus in PoA, because in some part's it didn't look like he enjoyed it so much. But if I could, I'd definetly would want to be an animagus. I find transfiguration very interesting for the most part. Plus, I love animals, so being one would be pretty sweet. ;)

Date: 2005-06-04 02:57 am (UTC)Best Trait: I feel that my best trait is my being artistic/creative. From the time I was little I have always loved anything to do with art. I often draw in a sketch book. I am currently going after a degree in Art, and have taken many classes of different mediums, such as clay, paint, sculpture, and design. Most of my time is spent doing something that involves art, even when I am watching tv, I enjoy pbs documentaries about famous artists.
Worst Trait: I tend to be very stubborn. I often get into arguments and will not back down, even if I may be partly wrong. I continue to have an attitude even after the conflict is over. Unless I am 100 percent at fault I will not apologize until the other party does.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? I would like my animal form to be capable of being strong as to protect itself, but not so much that it would be very noticeable, because its top trait would be stealth, the ability to go around undetected.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth I choose Earth, I have always felt a connection with nature, particularly forests and mountainous areas.
Warm or cool? I don't like extremes of either, but I would much rather be warm than too cold.
Morning or evening? I am definitely nocturnal. I stay up all hours of the night until morning when I go to bed for awhile, I am somewhat of a vampire. I have the most fun at night, when it is dark and everything is quiet. I feel that is the best time to go and just walk around my yard, or take a drive.
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? I am not opposed to being around others, but I do like to have my quiet time to myself. I try at least once a day to find a spot where I can go and be alone, so I can read, or just sit in silence. My favorite spots are my room, a chair outside in a really wild leafy part of my yard, or the tub.
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome! I will just give you a couple of pics. Me 1 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v391/SarahDocBrandyBaer/My%20Graphics/photos/melayingdown1.jpg) Me 2 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v391/SarahDocBrandyBaer/me.jpg) The first one is from a couple of weeks ago, and the second is my senior picture from 2003.
What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? I really enjoy art projects, designing costumes, watching movies, reading, hiking, learning as much as I can about anything, from history, to literature. I also spend a major amount of time on LJ, especially in
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with? I feel very drawn to cats. They are my favorite animal, and I have them as pets, which I treat them more like family members. I love almost all animals, but they have always been special for me.
Are there any animals you are afraid of? I am quite afraid of sea creatures, sharks mainly. But it is more of the thought of being in deep water and not able to see what is lurking down below, and even if they wouldn't want to eat me I still fear them for their size. And also spiders, I know technically they are not animals, but I fear them to the point of tears and screaming.
Why would you like to be an animagus? I would like to become an animagus because it takes work to do it. I want to prove to myself that I can handle the responsibility it takes to become one, and that I won't quit till I am finished. Also I would like to feel closer to nature, and becoming an animal doesn't get you any closer. And lastly, Marauders...that is my other reason.
I bought books 1-5 today, and also deposited knuts from May. I will give the link so you can check it, because I don't know whether you would want the vault updated first, or the books to be posted in my lookup before you review my application, but I just thought I would get started on all of this now. Date: 2005-07-01 08:32 pm (UTC)Iriomote Cat -- The Iriomote cat's coat is a dark, dusky brown, marked with dark spots that tend to merge into bands. They are the size of a domestic cat, with a relatively long body, short legs and tail, and dark, rounded ears with white central spots on the backs. These cats live in broad leaved, lowland sub-tropical rainforest, with dense mangroves along estuaries, and have also been seen along the sandy beaches of the island. During the winter months they move down from the more mountainous regions.

From:Part One
Date: 2005-06-08 02:05 pm (UTC)Best Trait: I suppose a specific trait would be... "julienne-ness." The essential quality about me that I would not be me without is my unique-ness. I find my own way, and I make my own morals. However, just because I make them does not mean I remake them very often. I follow my own (sometimes deluded) codes steadily, honestly, and to the best of my ability, and I set goals for myself that I cannot hope to achieve but strive for anyways. So my best trait, or the trait I feel is most prominent, is an independence artfully mixed with a sense and need for inter-dependence based on relationships. I suppose that means that I enjoy my independence, see a need for interdependence on others, and have no qualms about destroying dependent relationships that become parasitic. I can survive, thrive, and achieve brilliance on my own, but I recognize the need to relate and cohabit the world with others. Breaking it into parts, I focus on finding myself, helping my friends find themselves, and making all of us better people. When a person becomes needy or invasive, the parties invaded can choose to ignore that person, but no one expects that person to be completely estranged and excluded from everybody. It's like a society of about twenty or so girls trying to survive Catholic education in a secular world. We could be a cult. Of course, I'm the only one of use arrogant and deluded enough to invent some theory like this, but at the same time, that is my particular view on my relationship with my friends made utterly devoid of human emotion. If I were to describe my actually relationship with my friends, it would be a jumble of images, sounds, and tastes creating a Technicolor whirlwind of music and folly. In any case, I am an individualistic person who sees the point of having society instead of living as a hermit.
Worst Trait: I'm a very, very arrogant person. For me, English and languages come naturally and easily, and I suppose because I'm so good at it, I hold myself and everyone around me to really high standards. Thinking about it, I realize that because I rarely meet the goals myself I expect someone around me to, and when neither of us does, I'm extremely disappointed in the latter. It's worse, however, when I reach a goal and people I know don't. I gloat in subtle ways, making sure to nod at my score to make it seem that I had no doubts, making sure to turn my paper over in mock humility—it's horrible of me, and I do it anyways. In some circumstances, non-school related, I think I actually strut. I think it's because I tried to take pride in myself as a child, but now I've taken it too far. In reality, I've actually started considering the many ways that I am more unique than another person, and I'm beginning to think I really ought to stop. Of course, I should say that when we see ourselves, we tend to see only our worst qualities and to magnify them out of reasonable proportions. I might be exaggerating, for all I know, but I have caught myself mentally mocking people around me for not being quite enough in some categories, not unique enough, not smart enough, not enough of an individual, not enough of a free-thinker—whatever.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? Defending itself. I'm not one to take crap lying down, so if something bigger wanted me for dinner, I'd like to put up a fight and make it go away. Or, were I a predator, I should prefer a creature that can defend its territory from other species. I like what's mine to stay mine.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth Earth. As much as I would like to fly, I don't think it suits me very well. I like being able to clamber over boulders and dig my toes into the soft loam after a rain. Most of all, I really enjoy running and jumping more than I do leaping off tall objects. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not acrophobic or anything).
Part Two
Date: 2005-06-08 02:11 pm (UTC)Morning or evening? I like outside best between twilights, late at night when the world is still and the breeze floats along the air. I'll tell you a not-so-secret: I have a weird habit of getting out of bed at about one a.m. to rollerblade in my backyard. It's so peaceful at night with the stars out and there's nothing to bother me. It's soothing.
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? Oh, dear, I like both. I love having a tight group of friends who are willing to leap out in the street and run around like crazy and dance ridiculously to rock music and sing annoyingly from apartment roofs and have parties at midnight on top of parking garages... but at the same time I enjoy snatching a few quiet minutes to collect myself and separate me from all the excitement. However, if I had to choose only one for the rest of forever, I'd choose the excitement. I'd rather have people around me all the time than to be alone because even when I'm surrounded by my friends, I can always close my eyes for a few seconds and remember to be me and not them.
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome! Hm, I have brown eyes, but if I sit at a certain place in the cafeteria during 'a' lunch, the sun from the skylights hits my eyes just right and they look like molten gold. At least, that's what one of my more eloquent friends said. My hair is brown, but if I wait and let it get disgusting and then wash it, it looks like dark honey. I have...skin. It's a neutral beige colour until I step outside. Seriously, five or so seconds and I look like I spent several hundred dollars on a tan. It's great. My Native American heritage really pays off, and I mock my pale, lobster-red friends all the time. As for my other features... we won't get into those. On a normal day, I smell like strange mix of juniper (my lotion), chamomile (my room spray), rosemary (my shampoo), cherry-almond (my conditioner), and some coconut-y fruit-y smell (my hair gunk), but on nights when I forget and leave my candle burning, I also smell faintly burnt newspaper and lavender. Oh, and my socks smell like something in the sachet in my sock drawer, while I'm babbling about my personal olfactory sensations...
What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? Ahahha, "hobby" being an understatement. I spend my entire LIFE in the school theatre; I eat, sleep, and breathe our productions. I'm already helping plan the spring production for next year! My friends can tell what part of the year we're in simply by how much I'm screaming about the theatre. It's a love-hate relationship, honestly. And, on top of that, I somehow manage to edit and select pieces for the literary magazine, which, this year, is destined to win some national awards because we worked so hard on it. I'm also involved in several school clubs, three of which have plans for exciting things over the summer. As president-elect of the scifiers, I'm organizing the book release party-purchasing. Oh, and our refugee-aid club raised over five hundred dollars this year, and it's only our first year! Outside of clubs, I go "shopping" with my friends (which basically consists of running around like madmen at the local shopping center/train station/loft/movie theatre) and hang out online. I spend a lot of time with people.
Part Three
Date: 2005-06-08 02:12 pm (UTC)Are there any animals you are afraid of? If you don't make fun of me, I will tell you that I am terrified of emus. When I was six, I went to a drive-through wildlife preserve/zoo, and I tried to feed an emu. It tried to eat my hand, I swear! I am so scarred. Emus, cockroaches, and wasps are the only animals that really put me off.
Why would you like to be an animagus? Sometimes it's nice to let go of worries and focus on the more important and pressing parts of life: shelter, pack, water, food, and sleep. I'm kidding. Actually, I've always wondered what kind of animal I'd be, and I'm sure it could be useful for something. Plus, sometimes it's nice to achieve a thing or two.

Date: 2005-08-13 05:46 pm (UTC)Best Trait:
My answer to this changes every time I consider it. But anyway...
The thing I like most about myself is my ability to think rationally and objectively. It's the most satisfying thing I can do, to examine something, analyse it - be it a feeling or an event or opinion - and attempt to get as close to 'truth' as possible. I used to fall into the trap of over-analysing and criticising but not thinking rationally about the consequences of doing so. It was more of a compulsion and got me into all sorts of emotional pickles. Now it's an ability I can turn back on itself, making sure that being rational is the best thing to do. If that makes sense?! Some circumstances call for impulsiveness and I also have that in spades.
Worst Trait:
Again, thoughts on this change a lot, but today I'll say that I'm not honest enough. I like that I'm reserved and quiet rather than obtuse and melodramatic, but I wish I could be as forthrightly honest as some people, really say what I think to people's faces. I sometimes let others think untruths about me. When it's required of me to lie I really enjoy doing it.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of?
Speed, I think. I often fantasise about just running and running without stopping, or flying away somewhere completely different. Although that's what I'd choose over everything, not necessarily what I think reflects me the best. (I'm not exactly a sprinter!) Maybe it should be escape then, the ability to leave or vanish whenever I want.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth
Tough. There are qualities in all of them that I admire and think I posess. I choose Air, because it conjures images of lightness and change, but depth and consistency at the same time. To me, Air feels like your 'higher' mind, whatever that is, and somehow seems the most objective of the three. I like the steady warmth and fullness of Earth, and the dreamy strength of water, but Air suits me the best. I still have a kind of childlike curiosity and sense of wonder about the world and Air embodies that, I think.
Warm or cool?
Cool. I'd always prefer to be too cold than too hot and if I had to choose between living somewhere colder than Britain or warmer, I'm choose colder... and Britain's already pretty cold!
Morning or evening?
Evening, definitely. Although I like mornings - if I've had enough sleep! - I'm a night person. Mentally I feel more awake in late afternoon, early evening. I love the stars and the quiet and being awake when no one around you is. I like relaxing in the garden as the sun goes down in summer, or curling up by the fire in the winter when it's dark outside at 6pm, or taking my dog out in the woods when the bats wake up. Everything just seems more exciting in the evenings.
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner?
More of a loner. I have a nice, close family and spend time with them by default, but I like my space and prefer to be by myself. No conversation necessary! My friends have to make me meet them, otherwise we'd spend almost no time together. I'm a very bad friend when it comes to socialising.

They wait until dark before starting out to hunt, except when the demands of their young may start them hunting at twilight. Normally, before daylight, they retire to some shadowed or enclosed area in an old building, a hollow tree or a hole in a rocky cliff and remain there drowsily inactive all day.

Date: 2005-08-13 05:46 pm (UTC)Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome!
I'm currently 150lbs at 5'3", which makes me very curvy. Luckily it all sits in a rough hourglass shape. My hair is naturally a dark reddish brown and fairly wavy. I have greeny-hazel eyes and normally wear glasses but have contacts on in this photo:
What are your favourite hobbies and extracurricular activities?
Too many things! I spread myself pretty thin, but I enjoy reading, writing, sketching, walking...
I'm a movie whore. I love history, philosophy, anthropology and psychology. I have a wonderful dog called Jazz who demands a lot of my time. I'm really interested in the natural world; I'm not one of these sappy nature lovers who only likes the cute things or resents the predators. I also watch a lot of silly TV and spend too long on the internet.
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with?
Not overly drawn to but I have lots of favourites.
I've been around dogs all my life and feel very comfortable with them. I especially like Collie-type dogs - Jazz is part collie - because of how intelligent and alert they are. They're so trainable and have boundless energy. I also like Labradors and spaniel types. I used to have a wonderful Cavalier King Charles and my first dog was part Lab, part collie.
I do love birds and spend a lot of the time being very jealous that I can't fly! We get a lot of different varieties in our garden, mostly songbirds with the odd Sparrowhawk thrown in. It's nice just listening to the owls in the woodland at night.
I love the big African cats and Bengal tigers. Anyone else seen Big Cat Diary on the BBC?! It's given me a new respect for lions which I used to think were 'boring'. For some reason I've grown up with tiger symbolism all around me and that was my favourite animal when I was younger. I always wanted to be a tiger because they seemed the strong, silent, solitary type.
Are there any animals you are afraid of?
No, I really try not to be afraid of any animals. I certainly don't have any phobias. I'm okay with insects and arachnids; I'm not in love with them but if one needs moving outside then I'm the one who does it. I love mice and just don't get people who are afraid of them. I like snakes; I held a couple at the Natural History Museum when I was very young and consquently never developed the fear that a lot of people have. I can't imagine that I wouldn't be nervous diving with sharks or something, but I'd be too interested and excited to let that get in the way of enjoying the experience.
Why would you like to be an animagus?
I love the idea of Animagi in the Potter books. I especially liked how the witch/wizard can't choose what they become but the animal chooses them, according to their personality. If you've read the His Dark Materials trilogy you'll know about Dæmons, the parts of people's 'souls' or psyches that exist in the physical world as an animal. If you haven't read it then that sentence probably didn't make a whole lot of sense! But I fell in love with that concept as well. People are animals and have become too separate from the natural world. Becoming an Animagus is partly about having a respect for nature and recognising something of ourselves in other animals, as well as becoming more self-aware, which is always good, I think.
Plus at HiH it earns you points.Ps. I bought all the books ;)

Best Trait: I’d like to think I have more than one best trait XD but since we have to narrow it down I’d have to say my sense of humour. I don’t believe I have ever gone through a single day where I have not made a person laugh. Yay!
Worst Trait: Stubbornness/Sarcasm. I know they’re not directly related but I am ALWAYS having to have the last word in an argument and I constantly make sarcastic comments, even though I mean well with them, haha.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? I would love an animal that flies. Flying has been my number one dream since I was four. It would be amazing.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth As much of a flying fan I am, I always have to choose water over air, because I already know how to swim so I wouldn’t mind if my animal form couldn’t, but I love water and I feel so at home on the ocean.
Warm or cool? COLD. I love being in my freezing room with the window wide open. My family says I’m crazy but I love the cold.
Morning or evening? Evening/Night I’m at my wittiest and most awake at night time XD
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? I’m definitely more on the loner side. I do enjoy being around people, but only for a short period of time. I can’t think when I’m surrounded by people, and I value my alone time.
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome! I’m about 5”6 with blonde hair and blue eyes. I’m about 120 lbs and I have a picture heeeree
What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? Well first off I’m definitely most passionate about dancing. I’ve been at it since I was three and I’m absolutely mad about it. I dance around 11 hours during the normal week and I love every minute of it J. I’m also always on the computer, and I’m getting really into graphics making. I also love to read, and I devour books like a madwoman XD.
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with? Not really, but I’ve always felt that I share many likenesses with puffins, only because they’re aquatic, arctic birds and I think they’re fabulous.
Are there any animals you are afraid of? Do spiders count? XD No really I’m not scared of many animals, except the occasional crazy dog that jumps out at you when you’re running down the street.
Why would you like to be an animagus? There are a number of reasons, but I believe the strongest and most prominent reason is because I think it’s an absolutely fascinating idea, to be able to change your shape into something else at will. I read Animorphs religiously because I thought the whole principle was fantastic. And to have the opportunity to do it myself would be amazing.

Best Trait:
Loyalty. Not only do I love my friends and family to death, but I love my campers to death. I want to teach and show everyone their possibilities. In some ways this used to be one of my weaknesses as well, but as I grow older I have more ... control ...over who I'm loyal to and the limits of my loyalty. To those who deserve it (I know that sounds snootish but there are really people out there who I've loved who don't deserve it), they will have my loyalty until the ends of the world.
Worst Trait:
Defensive/Stubborn. Seriously. You don't want to cross me if I'm angry. I'm very quick to make assumptions about people, especially if they're crossing me or my family in any way. And even if it turns out that they're right (or even if they aren't but just won't admit it), I stick to my guns no matter what, and it can come off as pretty rude and selfish sometimes.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of?
Love... haha I know that's kind of silly. But I put this on my old application, and I still stand by it. But I'll also include something more realistic (and I'm wording it according to the animal world). Instilling feeling into someone through my voice. Whether it is sadness, hope, longing... if I can't love, I want to make those who can hear feel, because without feeling we're nothing. I've always secretly wanted to sing. (But I'm going to do the second best thing with my voice and teach.)
On a less serious note, flight would also be kinda cool.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth:
Well, right now (end of summer) my choice would be water. I love the feeling of water beneath my toes, or swimming in a lake. This summer I worked at a day camp and had no time off given. So in the past when I've been able to spend a week or more at my cottage, recently I haven't been able to and I miss it like the dickens. I also live in Kingston during the school year and I'm right on Lake Ontario ... and walking down the street towards my house on a sunny day with the water in front of me ... it is just one of my happy secret places that can always make me feel SOMETHING. Even frozen water... if you've ever seen a frozen lake on a sunny winter's day, you'd understand.
Warm or cool?
Cool. Well. Moderately cool :) I really don't like sticky humid weather. I like 25 degrees (CELCIUS), with a nice cool breeze. I'm one of those people who would rather freeze to death than burn.
Morning or evening?
Mornings. Seeing the sunrise, life waking up (whether in the city or country!) It's just a magical time of day. I also chose morning because there's so much you can accomplish if you're a morning person ... otherwise half of the day can go by on you. When I had the choice (and I rarely had the choice) between the 7:30AM shift and the 9:30AM shift I'd always choose 7:30.
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner?:
I'm not really super social. I love having family around me, or young kids (or a boyfriend when I had one). But I was never really one for partying with friends... I'm just more of a relaxed person, I guess. Okay. So yes. Relaxed people can be social too. I tend to feel uncomfortable with people I don't trust. So as a reference to the animal kingdom, packs of animals generally have to trust eachother because they rely on eachother for necessities ... and I'm sort of a little bit of both. Sometimes I need company, but I don't need a flock to keep me happy, and I'd rather be able to survive independantly.
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome!
Application Part Two
Date: 2005-09-12 03:07 pm (UTC)I love to read. You get transported away to these brilliant places that not only draw you in but inspire you in your life. Other than that I love to listen to music and play music, currently I play acoustic guitar very badly, but I'm going to start lessons, and I also play piano and love to sing. During the summer I sail/canoe when I'm at my cottage.
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with?
Water birds (swans, ducks, loons... NOT the Canadian Goose because they've come to depend on others (ie humans) for food and survival, which I don't want my animal to do). There's just a certain amount of freedom associated with those animals that I love. If there's something on land that is attacking them, they can go on water, if there's something in the water, they can fly away. They nurture and care for their young, and some varieties have a sort of content independence that I want for myself.
Are there any animals you are afraid of?
CATS. I'm so allergic it's hilarious. Only not. Because it involves asthma and a lack of breathing. But otherwise, hilarious.
Why would you like to be an animagus?
It's something nice to think about when escaping the everyday. What kind of animal would I be... It's just very interesting to think about.
I bought the books (see here (http://www.livejournal.com/community/hh_diagon/5547.html?thread=288683#t288683)) the money just hasn't been taken away from my account yet. But I've got the knuts :)

Best Trait:
Intelligence, I suppose. I learn things quickly (if I find them interesting). I am a very fast and avid reader and can produce info on a wide range of subjects. My favorite topics are science, spirituality and history. People have always come to me for help with their projects and such and also for help organizing their thoughts or making important decisions.
Secondary trait- Music: I am a rather nice classical singer and have a good ear for tone and pitch. Bad tone and pitch make my skin crawl. My favorite genres are jazz (emotive and often unexpected), chant (for its rigorous simplicity) and bluegrass (starkly emotive and flat-out fast).
Worst Trait:
It’s hard to choose from so many. :) I am impatient and I have a quick temper. I often tend to assume the worst about any given change in my situation and my first thought is often “What about meeeee?”. Most of my friends would not suspect these things about me (but my family would!) because I have learned to temper myself rather well in public. I dislike being this way and do try actively to change my impatience (by forcing myself to wait for things) and my selfishness (by allowing others first choice in some situations).
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of?
Mobility without attracting too much notice. In animal form I would like to be able to travel some distance to look in on other events but to be able to blend in to a degree- or at least be able to hide. Not to be giant-sized or incredibly tiny. I’d like some amount of defensive skill and if that went along with offensive skill then OK.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth
First I must say – Not Water! I have been afraid of the water for a long time. When I was a kid, my family knew several people who were paralyzed in diving accidents. ‘No Diving’ became our family motto for awhile. (I still don’t really understand why someone would want to go head first into water- or anything- like that. Why lead into any situation with your most valuable parts?) Second, I nearly drowned while swimming in the ocean when I was a teen. Luckily I was with a friend (buddy system!) who was a much better swimmer than I and he got some other people to help as well. I will get into water over my head occasionally but not in the ocean.
Ok- Earth. Not if you mean under the earth. I don’t like caves (or submarines) or any small enclosed spaces without easy escape. Bit of claustrophobia I guess, but I don’t mind small rooms or the kids’ tree house. I think it’s the escape routes. I don’t mind ‘earth’ if you mean being on the land or in a forest. I live in the country and wide open spaces don’t bother me a bit.
Now- Air. I don’t like airplanes but I think that’s a control issue and similar to the caves and subs- enclosed space, no escape. I’m not afraid of heights, in fact, I like the view and the fact that being up high often means that you are by yourself or, at least, harder to get to. (more on that later) Hmmm… When I first read this question, I had intended to answer ‘earth’ but now I am torn between ‘earth’ and ‘air’.
Warm or cool?
Hmmm… again. I don’t like either very cold or very hot but I can physically deal with cold better. My favorite time of the year is autumn because I get to wear my extensive collection of sweaters. Sweating and wearing most summer fashions are both rather unladylike in my opinion.
Morning or evening?
Evening, no doubt. I hate the early AM even though I always had 8 AM classes (ah, the sacrifices for science) and for many years had a job that required early AM hours. Given free choice- which never happens- I’d make my schedule 10A to 2A.

Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner?
Generally a loner with exception made for my family. We are friendly to many but would not look to them for help or comfort. We do have some close friends but, in the end, family usually trumps all. I would not allow anything to come between me and my mate/children and see part of my job as defending them from harm by outsiders. But even among family I need ‘privacy breaks’. This is especially true during the holidays. Our home is the gathering place for all family events and I love that- but being around that many people drains energy from me and sometimes I just have to sneak off by myself for 15-20 min. to recharge. Don’t know where this fits but… If I’m with the kids or with a group of friends I don’t have any problem being in charge. If my husband is there, I will usually defer to him (and no, I’m not a doormat. Ring him up if you don’t believe me.)
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome!
I am 5’5” and my weight is none of your business. I’ve always worn my hair short. My eyes tend to be prominent and my mouth is wide. My husband is of a different ethnic background than I and our children resemble him more than me. My daughter once asked me how old she would have to be before her nose got long and pointy like mine. I told her with a sigh that the answer was never. My Celtic genes had been trumped.

What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities?
When I had more time I enjoyed cross stitch and scrapbooking. Actually I’ll try almost any craft. Now most of my ‘leisure’ time is spent singing, writing small bits of music, reading, writing a tiny bit or fooling around in online communities like this. I also teach two different classes for children and find I enjoy it much more than I would have thought 10 years ago.
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with?
Oddly, perhaps, I am not that much of an animal person. I certainly wish them no harm and I do like nature shows but there are no smelly beasts on my furniture, thankyouverymuch. I like dogs better than cats (as a kid the family always had Dobermans. They’re still my favorite dog.) The animals I find the most interesting are those that live in a clan or pack like lions and wolves. I like trying to understand the hierarchy of the various members (a family thing, again) and the fact that the packs depend on strong females. I also like dolphins and whales (except for the whole water thing). I am also intrigued by falcons and hawks and the sport of falconry. We have a family line of red-tailed hawks that have lived behind our house for at least 20 years. I love to watch them hunt and see the parents training their young ones.
Are there any animals you are afraid of?
I’m not terribly afraid of any animals that I might meet on a regular basis. Weirdly, the animals I like the most would also be the most frightening to meet in real life because the ‘pack intelligence’ would make them very hard to outsmart. Reptiles and bugs are just ick.
Why would you like to be an animagus?
If I could learn to be an animagus in RL, I would do it because it is hard and not too many people get to do it. As an animal, it would be interesting to see through different eyes and be good at different things. In submitting this application, I am wondering what your eyes will see in all this and I want to take that leap.
Fin.

Date: 2005-09-27 07:53 pm (UTC)Best Trait: I would like to think that I am a patient person. Considering the fact that I'm 19 years old and still haven't had a boyfriend(by choice) and am waiting for my husband, I think thats patience at its best. Sure, I'm not completely perfect and can't be patient in every situation. The one thing that I am not patient in, is when I'm driving. Where I live, there is always a ton of traffic on the freeway so that has turned me into being not so tolerant of slow drivers. But overall, yes, I think patience is one of my finer qualities.
Worst Trait: I can have a pretty bad temper at times(maybe has to do with the red hair? :p). Not to the point that I yell at people, but I get annoyed really easily and that tends to put me in a bad mood. And when I'm in a bad mood, I'll snap at people for no apparent reason or just give them a bad attitude.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? I would say to fly, because that would be so cool, but I really don't see myself as a bird or anything like that. I guess I'd have to say, that I would want my animal form to be capable of independence - able to provide food on its own, able to fight on its own, able to live on its own if it has to, etc. I am a very independent person, and I value that independence, so I think an animal with equal independence would be good.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth - Water, because I like water. I love swimming and walking in the rain and its nice and refreshing. :)
Warm or cool? Warm. I prefer summer over winter and I like sunny days opposed to grey skies, its so depressing.
Morning or evening? Evening because I am not a morning person what so ever.
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? Honestly, it depends on the situation. I love having people around me most the time, when I'm in public places. I love the atmosphere of school, with all the people and I love hanging about with a bunch of friends all at once. But when I'm home, I just like to be alone and find solitude and do my own thing.
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome! Here's a couple pictures:

What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? My main hobby is to sing. I love music with a passion. I love to dance as well, but I don't do that as often these days. I am starting to play piano again and I enjoy writing music. Can working be considered a hobby? Cuz I work a lot too hehe and I'm a major junkie when it comes to the computer
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with? I absolutely adore tigers and lions. I don't know why. They are just beautiful creatures. I don't believe in any of this stuff... but my sign is Leo(lion) and I was born in the year of the tiger(Chinese new year) so I guess, in that sense I feel a connection with both of those. One lady I met was really good at pinpointing how people act and she knew a ton about all the different signs... she said I fit well with Leo because I was like a Lion in the sense that I watch my surroundings before getting involved. Make sense? I dunno, its hard to explain. But like a lion waits and watches its prey before it attacks, I watch and wait before I feel comfortable to interact with the people I am with. I think thats how she said it... anyway, besides that, I tend to scratch people a lot - totally by accident! I just like having naturally longer nails and somehow I just scratch people a lot :/ Nothing horribly bad, but I kinda have the nickname of catwoman and people compare me to a tiger lmao! Oh, and once my friend even said I had cat eyes O.o
Are there any animals you are afraid of? Just the normal scary animals - snakes, sharks, crocidiles.
Why would you like to be an animagus? I would love to be an animagus because I have always wondered what it would be like to be an animal. Animals are dear to my heart, so if I actually had the ability to change into one, that would be the most awesome thing ever! x]

Date: 2005-09-28 09:00 am (UTC)Best Trait: My best trait is that I speak my mind. There are far too many people in the world today who just go with the flow because they're too afraid to stand up and say something, for one reason or the other. Sometimes they do it just so others will like them more, but I think it's better for someone to know where I'm truly coming from and form an honest opinion of me and my beliefs, than to sugar-coat things or not mention things and have someone form a false opinion of me. That doesn't mean I have to be brutally honest or force my beliefs upon others.
Worst Trait: I'm very stubborn. When I get into an argument or debate, unless someone have concrete proof that I'm wrong, I'm not going to back down from my position. I'll hold a grudge, even after the situation has been resolved. Usually I don't apologize for what was said or done during the situation unless I know I was totally off-base with a comment.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? Speed. I'm a distance runner, and have always been horrible at sprints or anything that involves speed. I'd like to be able to say that my animal form is capable of speed. It'd also be a form of defense; outrun my enemies.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth Earth, definately. I've always loved the forests and mountains. I lived in upstate New York, in the Adirondack Mountains, for a few years and thought it was wonderful. My family and I would go camping almost every weekend, and I loved being out in nature. It's so...breath-taking. To stand in the middle of a forest and look around at the nature surrounding you. Knowing that perhaps you're the only person to set foot in that particular area of the mountain, and knowing that it'd be so easy to just leave everything behind and stay there.
I'm also not too good with heights, and the last ship I was on I was sea sick until about 10 minutes before we docked. :/
Warm or cool? Cool. Cold, actually. I grew up in Louisiana and it was always SO HOT. I love the cold weather. It's easy to warm yourself up during the winter, but unless you have an air conditioner, there are very few ways of cooling down. Plus in winter it snows and gets icy and you can have snowball fights or go ice skating.
Morning or evening? Evening. It's quiet, calm and generally cooler during the night. It's easier to take a walk at night and just think, because there aren't tons of people driving by or a bunch of rugrats out playing. You can lay down in the yard and stare at the sky and just let your imagination run wild. It's just more peaceful.
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? I'm more of a loner. People, when they first meet me, think I'm shy...I'm not. I just prefer to be alone or in the company of a few close friends than to surround myself with lots of people I don't know or don't know very well. It's easier to talk to a few people, it's easier to get things done with fewer people (well, easier to get them to go along with my idea of how to get things done, anyway). Plus, I'm not a person of many words. I prefer to listen to others than ramble on myself.

Date: 2005-09-28 09:01 am (UTC)What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? I love sports, especially football and baseball. I love to travel and explore my surroundings. Aside from that, I enjoy reading and writing. I used to be really into art, now I only sketch a little here and there. I'm also interested in web design and politics (debating, keeping up with what's going on in the world, etc.).
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with? I like rabbits. They're just...cute and cuddly, and they always outsmart my puppy. I actually started collecting rabbit "stuff"...like stuffed animals and other knick-knacks. I also love tigers, in part because my favorite college football team is the LSU Tigers. They're majestic and no one would dare mess with them (actual tigers, that is. LSU isn't doing so well *tear*).
Are there any animals you are afraid of? SPIDERS (pleasepleaseplease do NOT choose any kind of spider as my animagus or I might just die :x I'm arachnophobic), and any other kind of bug.
Why would you like to be an animagus? I want to become an animagus because it's something that most people either can't or won't do. I want to prove that I can indeed become one, that I can handle the responsibility that goes along with it, and prove that it's not something I'd quit on. Kind of, one-up the Jones', as childish as that may sound. Also, to become closer to nature.
I put in my request to purchase the books, though it hasn't gone through yet. I think hh_diagon is updated every Friday, though, so I didn't think it'd be too big of a deal. Just thought I'd mention that.
Part 1
Date: 2005-10-11 01:12 am (UTC)Best Trait: Hmmm... I think one of my best traits is the fact I'm not afraid to try something new or something that may be "out of my element". For example, I'm not afraid to try some strange new food that everyone else is afraid to try. I am very active in college life over here, and I'm not afraid to go out and try something new, especially since going to college in a large city is a huge change from small-town life.
Worst Trait: I tend to be a bit shy and clingy. As I've said before, I've just entered college. I'm in college band over here, and I've met loads and loads of people, but I've always had my roommate there as, for lack of a better term, a buffer. My roommate is also in band, but she's a bit more outgoing than I am. Because of that, hardly anyone sees us apart, and her friends are my friends. I need to learn to be a bit more independent and outgoing.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? I would like my animal to be able to swim or fly. I have been a fairly decent swimmer since kindergarten (or around 13 years). I love to swim, and in my free time, I always go to the rec center on campus and swim till they close the pool. :) Flying would be awesome, too, but not as awesome as swimming. :)
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth I choose water, for the same reason as the last question. :)
Warm or cool? I would much rather be too cold than too hot. If the weather all of a sudden got cold, I would usually wear more layers of clothes. If I happen to get too hot in the layers of clothes, then I just peel some off. That's not to say I don't like being hot, though. A trip to the beach is always nice. :)
Morning or evening? Evening, for sure. I am not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination. My roommates may say otherwise, but I just like to put on a facade so no one is totally grumpy in the morning. Even if I have my full ten hours of sleep, I'm still not really and truly awake when my alarm goes off. Who is? lol
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? I like to have people around me!! I like to have usually more than 2 or 3 people around me at once. It's awkward being one-on-one with someone for me. I had a date a few weeks ago, and it was incredibly awkward being just around the person I was with. I liked him and all, but it was incredibly awkward for me. For that reason (among others), I like being around big groups of people. :)
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome!
Is that sufficient?
What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? Since I'm here, I obviously love to read Harry Potter. Whenever I'm reading one of my HP books, my roommates know to leave me alone, since I'm in my own little world when I have my nose in the book. I'm also a musician. I'm in my college band. I have been in band since the fifth grade, so this would be my eighth year in band. I play the clarinet, if anyone's interested. :) I've also been in chorus for about a year, but I haven't continued it thus far (I have far too much in my schedule as is).

Date: 2005-10-11 01:13 am (UTC)Are there any animals you are afraid of? Ewww... this one's easy. I do not like snakes. I have been afraid of snakes since preschool. I do not know why, but I am. I freak out every time I happen to see one. I guess I'm afraid of getting bitten...
Why would you like to be an animagus? I figure being an animagus would accomplish something for me later on. It has to somehow be useful, depending on which animal I happen to be. I also love hard work (why else would I have dedicated 8 years of my life to music?). Plus, I love the challenge. :)
Also, FYI, I bought the books yesterday. I have enough knuts to cover the purchase. :)

Red Panda -- The red panda is active between dusk and dawn, sleeping in trees during the day. The adults are generally solitary, but sometimes travel in pairs or small family groups. When frightened or angry they stand on their hind legs and give sharp spitting hisses (like a cat).

Part One
Date: 2005-11-04 11:07 pm (UTC)Best Trait:
I'm intelligent, and I love learning. I've been on the honor roll for forever, and I'm taking AP classes (and, yes, I know that grades are not an accurate representation of intelligence, but I tend to group them together anyway). I think this is a good trait because learning is important, and so many people today (especially in my age group) hate learning, reading, or going to school. We need to be able to make informed decisions in life instead of just blindly going after whatever we've been taught, or what "feels right" at the time. Logic and reasoning are important, and sometimes it seems like people forget that.
Worst Trait:
I am a procrastinator. For instance, right now I should be doing my homework, or the laundry, or beta-ing fanfic. Obviously, I'm not. I always tend to do this, and my parents always get after me for it. Sometimes I have to stay up until 6:00 in the morning to get my homework done, because I procrastinate. But I figure the important thing is that I always get it done. Too bad that argument never works on Mom and Dad.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of?
The ability to camouflage itself, I think. I don't like the spotlight. I mean, sure, I like to be recognized for what I do, just not by everyone. For example, if I get good grades, I'd rather just my parents and teachers knew it than the whole school. Or if I gave someone something they really wanted, I would want them to know, but not necessarily anyone else.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth
That's tough, but I guess Earth, because it has trees and ground. Since I'm slightly afraid of heights (but only when there's nothing secure to hang on to), the ground is good, but I also like climbing, so trees are good, too. It has mountains, and thus, snow, as well as a beautiful landscape. Yeah, Earth is good.
Warm or cool?
Warm. I'm always cold, and I hate it. My family likes to keep the house at about 69° F, and I always walk around in a sweatshirt and a blanket. Summer is heaven; it's rarely too hot.
Morning or evening?
Evening, definitely. I am not a morning person. If I had it my way, I would stay up until 2 o'clock in the morning, then wake up at 10. Of course, that may be just one of the traits of teenagers. I've heard that there are studies that show that teens function better in the afternoon and evening than they do in the morning, naturally.
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner?
People are okay, as long as I know them, and they aren't literally surrounding me. I have this thing about crowds: I don't like them. I feel trapped in crowded rooms, especially if people don't move. In hallways, like at my school, it's almost worse, because people stop in the middle of the hall and talk to their friends, and it's even more crowded because they block the path, and then you have to move around them, while people coming the other way do the same thing! So, you've got crowded hallways and people pushing and shoving and knocking into you. Yeah, in that sense, I'm definitely a loner. As for friends, and stuff... well, I have a few friends, but I don't really let people in, so I guess I'm sort of a loner there, too.
Part Two
Date: 2005-11-04 11:09 pm (UTC)Okay, I have brown hair (with dyed red streaks), hazel/greenish-brown eyes (I've been told they change colors), and I tan easily (partly because I'm ¼ Chippewa/Ojibwa). My eyes crinkle when I laugh. My nose is round. I have skin problems, I guess, like most people my age. I am about ten pounds overweight for my height, but my 'adopted' sister is convinced it's mostly muscle. My nails grow too quickly for my liking, but at least they don't break easily. Um, I guess overall my appearance is "average."
What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities?
Mock trial! I love being a witness (a lawyer takes too many prepared speeches), because I get to act like someone else. It's not as much pressure as a lawyer, and cross-examination is fun, because you get to frustrate the other teams lawyers by evading questions. Also, at my school, I get extra credit, as well as a letter of recommendation for doing it.
Reading! I love to read. You get to see things through another's eyes, get to see so much of this world and others, learn new things, indulge in fantasy; it's just amazing!
Writing. Even though I'm nowhere near as talented as most writers out there, I love to do it. In my English class, there's a writer's notebook nearly every day, and it's so much fun, especially because it challenges you to write about something you might not usually write about. Other than that, it's just fanfiction, most of it just sitting in my room, waiting to be finished.
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with?
Well, when I was little, my nickname was "monkey," because I climbed so much. And I still like to climb, even though heights are slightly scary (the fear makes it more exciting, really!). I could "swim like a fish," when I took swimming lessons, and I still like to swim. I am very much an animal lover, so I like all kinds of animals: cats, rats, dogs, mice, hamsters, caterpillars, snakes.... When my class went to OMSI, I was one of the only girls to pet the hissing cockroach. I used to play with worms, and whenever I help with gardening, I still save the worms for the flower bed. So, I guess I "feel drawn to" a number of animals.
Are there any animals you are afraid of?
Yes: spiders and bees (or anything resembling them, like wasps, hornets, yellow jackets... even those little flies that just look like bees). Spiders are okay sometimes, I just don't like them, but bees really freak me out. I've only been stung twice (once when I was three and I tried to make friends with a bee by holding it, and once just because I walked by a bush), but I hate bees. When I think one's near me, I tend to scream and run. It's one of my two irrational fears (the other being crowds).
Why would you like to be an animagus?
Who wouldn't? It's an escape from the world and responsibilities, for one thing, and for another, you may get to fly, or climb, or go unnoticed. And, if you're lucky, you may just get to run with a werewolf.
Okay, I filled out the form to get the books ages ago, but my order hasn't been filled yet, so the link is here (http://www.livejournal.com/community/hh_diagon/5547.html?thread=328363#t328363).
Re: Part Two
Date: 2005-12-04 01:51 pm (UTC)Koala -- Koalas prefer to move around just after sunset spending daytimes asleep in the fork of a tree. Koala spends 75% of its time sleeping. Just after sunset koalas move around and can often be heard "barking" aggressively at other koalas.
