Song Title&Artist: Living Dead Girl by Rob Zombie
Reasons Why: The book "Living Dead Girl" describes a potion used to raise zombies. It lists several ingredients, including "devil's wing," "hunchback juice," and "a sentimental noose." It details the steps necessary to administer the potion to the corpse, including covering the body in blood and allowing the potion to seep into the grave dirt. Obviously a book on necromancy, the darkest of the dark arts, belongs in the Restricted Section.

Song Title&Artist: You Have Killed Me - Jim Morrissey
Reasons Why: This book is about a young man who falls victim to a vampire in a back alley and subsequently embarks on a hate-fueled hunt for Muggles to feed upon. It is in the restricted section due to gory and vivid depictions of Muggle deaths, which may encourage wizarding supremacist views.

Song Title&Artist: Bad Romance - Lady Gaga
Reasons Why: Bad Romance is a book about the perils of using Amortentia, and while it was originally meant as a teaching tool, further generations have decided it's a bit too gory and brutal, much like how Grimm's fairy tales have fallen somewhat out of favor with young Muggle children due to their, well, grimness. For example, there is an entire chapter about crimes people committed in the name of love--murders, beatings, robberies, etc. Another chapter talks about how sometimes you lose your mind in obsessive love and turn psychotic. As a teaching tool for the dangers of Amortentia, it was deemed ineffective and sent to the Restricted Section.

Song Title&Artist: Eye To Eye by Powerline
Reasons Why: This book is about a clan of cyclops and their internal hierarchy and group politics. The book includes a bit about their tribal customs and rituals. It's been placed in the Restricted Section because of the cultural difficulties with other beings (giants, etc) in the Wizarding world and the Ministry's fear of non-Wizards banding together and rising up against Wizards.

Song Title&Artist: Volcano by Damien Rice
Reasons Why: This book is actually about transfiguration and charms that cause mass destruction. One chapter states, "You give me miles and miles of mountains/And I'll ask for the sea" and further instructs the reader on how to transfigure entire mountain ranges into a sea. You can see why that might be "destructive." In another chapter, it gives the reader a spell to completely remove volcanoes from a landscape. If you wish to do this, you can recite, "Don't build your world around/Volcanos melt you down/What I am to you is not real/and what I am to you, you do not need." Followed by a few wand flourishes and you can change an entire environment. But these examples, as well as other found in this book, can cause irreversible damage to wildlife and the echo system, so they should only be used by very experienced wizards and with the proper licenses from the Ministry.

Song Title&Artist: Vampires Will Never Hurt You by My Chemical Romance
Reasons Why: This book is definitely one that should be in the Restricted Section. Some of the chapters have creepy titles, such as "Hanging Out With Corpses", "Driving In This Hearse", and "Can You Stake My Heart". Clearly, this book is a guide for killing vampires and fending off vampire attacks and is not safe for impressionable children to read, especially ones who may not yet have the knowledge to use this book wisely. Obviously, this book contains content that some children, and parents, might find difficult to read.

Song Title&Artist: "Save My Soul" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Reasons Why: Over the years, this book has garnered controversy for its promotion of voodoo as an acceptable form of magic. In particular, the section detailing how to use voodoo charms for romantic purposes is problematic due to the inherent consent issues involved in using any sort of magic, let alone magic of questionable legitimacy that runs contrary to the teachings of European magical institutions, in the pursuit of love. Though of anthropological interest, there is no chance of a book with such potentially subversive content ever being moved from the restricted section.

Song Title&Artist: Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Reasons Why: This epic tome charts the quest of a young man in his search for power – the highs, the lows, the murders and the fandangos. While sections of the text have proven to be quite useful to philosophers and academics alike as they investigate the mysteries of life (Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? is an oft-quoted line), the text as a whole cannot be studied for too long without driving the reader mad, inducing repetitive and nonsensical singing and displays of erratic behaviour and mood swings, hence its inclusion in the Restricted section. Unfortunate witches and wizards have been taken in and absorbed by the desire to study the book’s complicated structure and endless meanings, and have tried to solve the mystery of the mysterious wizard the book describes… But to no avail.

Song Title&Artist: The Nobodies by Marilyn Manson
Reasons Why: The book is about the torments suffered by children through different generations, exploring their psyches and the deepening schisms between what one is and what one 'should' be in the eyes of society. The harsh and often garish descriptions of these 'nobodies', as author Manson refers to them by, as well as the bleak view of society has caused wild furor in parents, who want impressionable young children to stay away from these types of books. It can be debated, however, whether the painfully realistic view Manson enlightens us on should even be kept away, or whether children should come to understand it early on in their lives.

Song Title & Artist: The Headless Waltz by Voltaire
Reasons Why: This book contains multiple gruesome descriptions of decapitation and illustrations that would give even many older students nightmares. In addition, it makes a persuasive case for decapitation being a good solution for one's problems, as demonstrated by the quotes "All my troubles, all my pain stems from this thing that you call a brain" and "In my bed I'll sleep well tonight without this head of mine." Obviously we do not want impressionable students trying to cut their heads off, so this book should go into the Restricted Section.

Song Title&Artist: Coin Operated Boy - The Dresden Dolls
Reasons Why: ‘Coin Operated Boy’ is the tale of how a poor young witch at Hogwarts decided to get more Galleons by bewitching a money box to give her more funding. However, the money box came alive and started killing off the boys in her dormitory. With chapters such as “I can’t imagine any flesh and blood could be his match” and “complications galore”, the book gave many young witches and wizards nightmares with its graphic depictions of the mutilations caused by the coin operated boy. Plus, you know, the witch tried to break Gamps Law of Elemental Transfiguration. And that’s bad!

Song Title&Artist: Looking Good in the Coffin, Ted McCloseky
Reasons Why: “Looking Good in the Coffin” – it has nothing to do with Pharaohs, pyramids, or the afterlife. Tombs, maybe, but it’s still a close call in this sultry tale of lovers who aren’t all necessarily alive. Necromancy is an old, sometimes disturbing tradition that has become less and less accepted or learned about over the years; especially now, when sexuality is such a hot button topic in the media. That’s why this book is here though, in the restricted section, hidden away from innocent eyes and eyes that would see the words and cast them to shame.

Song Title&Artist: "Teeth" by Lady Gaga
Reasons Why: Up until the fascination with vampires (thank you Stephanie Meyer), "Teeth" was available in the regular section for anyone to check out and enjoy. However... it gives an all too accurate account of vampires. How to attract one, how to make one fall in love with you, even instructions on how to get one to turn you. After a sudden boom in the (thankfully un-sparkling) vampire population, it was deemed necessary to move this book into the restricted section.

Song Title&Artist: Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley
Reasons Why:
This book seems fairly harmless at first glance, and many would no doubt wonder why it's in the Restricted Section at all. However, upon seeing those who read the book, it becomes crystal clear. The book has an unusual effect on those who study it's strange words, putting a power curse known as the "rickroll" on them. This curse forces them to sing and dance around like an 80's pop star loudly and incessantly. They are only able to stop singing and dancing when a powerful memory charm is cast upon them, erasing the book's knowledge from their mind. Unfortunately, such a strong memory charm usually wipes their memory completely clean, leading to the need for a long recovery in St. Mungos.
Because of this, the book resides in the Restricted Section, chained together by strong magic...

Song Title&Artist: Photosome Handsome by Everything Everything
Reasons Why: This book is in the restricted section due to its detailed explanations in prolonging life, with some reference to horcrux production and reincarnation. Chapter titles include, "You've become a smithereen", "You could respawn anywhere", "I make my own destiny", "You ready for reincarnation?" and "Just come back as something else." The words are backed up with terribly airbrushed images that might make even the lousiest photoshopper squirm.

Song Title&Artist: Somebody That I Used To Know - Gotye
Reasons Why: Clearly, this book is about a pair of once-romantically attached ghosts thinking about when they were alive and together. Now, ordinarily that wouldn't be a problem. Hogwarts is full of hormonal teenagers - many are dealing with all kinds of relationship highs and lows, so this would actually fit in perfectly with that age group. (In fact, that's why Madam Pince acquired it.) However, these ghosts actually live in Hogwarts. They are not on good terms - and if word ever got out that such a book existed in the Library, I daresay those two might be a little upset and would arrange for Peeves to level the place. Especially if students started reciting some of the chapter titles - such as how "you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough" and "you didn't have to cut me off". Really, the Restricted Section is the safest place for this book.

Song Title&Artist: "If You Ever Come Back" by The Script
because my brother will not stop listening to itReasons Why: Though at first glance this may seem like a fairly innocuous text on lost love, it’s housed in the restricted section because it is actually a how-to volume on necromancy. Told through the eyes of a young man who has just lost his love, the book deals with procedures for communing with and raising the dead. Some techniques are almost shockingly simple (such as making the vanquished loved one a cup of tea), so it needs to be kept carefully guarded.

Song Title&Artist: Black Swan by Sunset Rubdown
Reasons Why: Black Swan, by Sunset Rubdown, is a book about a young witch or wizard (written in second person, the author does not specify; although "you" are wearing mascara, that doesn't mean much in this day and age) whose lover has died but did not return as a ghost. In the story, the protagonist ("you") is pining for their lost love and will use Dark Magic to resurrect them with no regard for the laws, morals or customs of our society.

Song Title&Artist: Black Magic Woman by Santana
Reasons Why: A book that is clearly about the dangers of love potions, with the title referring to the dangerous women who have concocted these potions and have had terrible things happen to them or to the people on the receiving end of this potion. Love potions, are of course, strictly forbidden at Hogwarts and Madam Pince thought that anything referring to love potions should be kept out of reach of students. The chapter "She's Got Me So Blind I Can't See" was particularly gruesome with those awful illustrations...

Song Title&Artist: Set Fire to the Rain by Adele
Reasons Why: It literally sets fire to the rain. The London Fire of 1666? A drunken wizard who read the words from this book aloud, repeatedly. Though there is a sort of poetic love story in the book, it's a two-fold tragedy for both the couple and the unsuspecting reader who gets caught up in the emotions of such things, as they find themselves in decidedly hot water.

Song Title&Artist: "Give Your Heart A Break" by Demi Lovato
Reasons Why: Between the tome entitled What Makes You Beautiful by the oddly-named author One Direction and the Horcrux encyclopedia called Pieces of Me by Ashlee Simpson, you can find Give Your Heart A Break written by Demi Lovato. This book details how a broken heart lead the author down a dark path of corruption and Dark Magick. In the first chapter, the author says, "The world is ours if we want it/We can take it if you just take my hand/There's no turning back now/Baby, try to understand" as a glimpse inside her mind as she grew more and more corrupt. This story is a cautionary tale for anyone with a broken heart. So give your heart a break, will ya?

Song Title&Artist: Seduce Me - Roxette
Reasons Why: Even though the song doesn't strike me as particularly magical, the two words "Seduce Me" tell me that the author of the book is totally thinking in a sexual way. I have to imagine that this book would be about methods of seduction - how to get someone into bed with you and keep them there. Even with the more liberal sex laws in Britain, this still wouldn't be appropriate for eleven year olds; hence its place in the Restricted Section.

Song Title&Artist: Call Me, Maybe? by Carly Rae Jepsen
Reasons Why: Beginning her study of Muggle superstitions with the discussion the Muggle practice of "throwing [a] a wish in the well" and telling one's friends to no "ask 'cuz [they'll] never tell," Ms. Jepsen brings to light the many ways in which Muggles tend to rely on chance and superstition to bring about their desired romantic result. Due to Ms. Jepsen’s clever writing style, this book was found to be too catchy and gossipy for the younger students. After one too many howlers from parents begging the Headmaster to ban the book, it was placed in the Restricted Section.
