Welcome to the Music Club! My name is Brooke and I'm your new leader. This club is for anyone and everyone who likes music.

Before we begin, I'd like everyone to fill out an application. (Even if you were a member before, please fill out another one.) This will help me get to know you guys and decide which direction to take the Music Club in. Oh, and everyone who applies is automatically accepted. ^_^

And so you all can know my musical tastes and background better...

Name: Brooke
House: Gryffindor
Age: 21

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): Regina Spektor, Placebo, Mindless Self Indulgence, Hanson, Ben Folds, Silverchair, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Ani Difranco, Indigo Girls, Maroon 5, The Dead Milkmen, Sublime, Crosby Stills and Nash, Jimmy Hendrix, Nirvana, Look What I Did, Submethod, Rage Against the Machine, Daddy Yankee, Rufus Wainwright, Muse, Pink Floyd, Alanis Morissette, Damien Rice, Harry Connick Jr., NIN, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Mars Volta, Garbage...and I'll just stop here because I could go on for a while.

What was the best concert you've ever attended? Well, I saw Eric Clapton twice in LA...that rocked. But a couple months ago I got to see Mindless Self Indulgence. The concert had a rockin mosh pit, crowd surfing, and pure chaos. It was one of the only concerts I've seen where the band's energy kept escalating, and the audience kept meeting it, becoming just as involved in the concert as the band themself.

Do you listen to the radio? Unfortunately, I work in a restaurant where the radio is constantly playing. So, yes. However, Nashville has recently gotten a new radio station called Jack FM that has made listening to the radio more tolerable. The station has a format that's more like Satellite Radio (no DJ's, very few commercials, massive eclectic playlists). I dislike Top 40 radio, mostly due to all the politics, payola, repetitiveness, and pure crap that's played.

Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? I listen to all of it. I know alot about classic rock, and I think some of the best music came out of the 1970's. (Yes, I even own alot of old vinyl).

Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : I'm currently a Senior Music Business Major in college. Ideally, I'd like to be a Tour Manager for a large act, and eventually go into Artist Management. Both my parents work in the Music Business, so I kind of grew up around it.

What is the extent of your musical education? I play a bit of piano, but suck at most every other instrument. I was in showchoir for 8 years in highschool, and did all sorts of musicals and competitions. Now I've gotten out of the creative side of music and am studying the business side of the industry. In school I've studied History of Commercial Music, Music Journalism, and most any other subject you can think of.

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): I am hopelessly addicted to Def Leppard, I have been since their Pyromania album came out (when I was all of 7). My music world revolves around them, but not only them. Other interests include: Metallica, Slate 44 (local band), BNL, Dropkick Murphys, Harry Connick Jr, Dr. John, Pink Floyd, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Eagles, Aerosmith, Elton John, Billy Joel, and various others. I listen to just about any type of rock/jazz/swing/big band/classical/new age, but don't do country or rap. Oh yeah, I love musicals, but don't do opera. Les Mis is my favorite (even named my cats Gavroche and Eponine).

What was the best concert you've ever attended? Again with the Def Leppard. I've seen them three times, but the first time I was able to see them in concert was amazing. It was at this stadium where they only allow a certain number of people on the floor, so it isn't as crowded/crazy around the stage, plus they were doing their 'in the round' thing, so I was on the rails in front of Phil (guitarist) the entire show. It was heavenly.

Do you listen to the radio? Not all that much anymore, but sometimes. I've been too annoyed with stations doing country music as a carry-over into the other stuff, and I have issues with that. Been sticking with cds and such mostly.

Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? A mix, but probably more older stuff than current, since I don't listen to the radio much. How about 'new stuff from older bands'? That's more my style.

Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : I actually went to college to be a music industry major, I wanted to be a sound engineer. I got a little burned out, so I dropped out (with two semesters to go). I'll go back and finish one day, I hope.

What is the extent of your musical education? I play the flute, started when I was 11 and still play. I was in band from 6th grade through 4 years of college, took lessons from 10th grade and up through college. 4 years of music theory classes, etc.

Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) Honestly, I'd love to see a mix of everything. I like to know what people play or like to listen to. I want to hear about new music and maybe get some recommendations from people without being forced to listen to the radio.
