Welcome to the Music Club! My name is Brooke and I'm your new leader. This club is for anyone and everyone who likes music.
Before we begin, I'd like everyone to fill out an application. (Even if you were a member before, please fill out another one.) This will help me get to know you guys and decide which direction to take the Music Club in. Oh, and everyone who applies is automatically accepted. ^_^
And so you all can know my musical tastes and background better...
Name: Brooke
House: Gryffindor
Age: 21
Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): Regina Spektor, Placebo, Mindless Self Indulgence, Hanson, Ben Folds, Silverchair, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Ani Difranco, Indigo Girls, Maroon 5, The Dead Milkmen, Sublime, Crosby Stills and Nash, Jimmy Hendrix, Nirvana, Look What I Did, Submethod, Rage Against the Machine, Daddy Yankee, Rufus Wainwright, Muse, Pink Floyd, Alanis Morissette, Damien Rice, Harry Connick Jr., NIN, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Mars Volta, Garbage...and I'll just stop here because I could go on for a while.
What was the best concert you've ever attended? Well, I saw Eric Clapton twice in LA...that rocked. But a couple months ago I got to see Mindless Self Indulgence. The concert had a rockin mosh pit, crowd surfing, and pure chaos. It was one of the only concerts I've seen where the band's energy kept escalating, and the audience kept meeting it, becoming just as involved in the concert as the band themself.
Do you listen to the radio? Unfortunately, I work in a restaurant where the radio is constantly playing. So, yes. However, Nashville has recently gotten a new radio station called Jack FM that has made listening to the radio more tolerable. The station has a format that's more like Satellite Radio (no DJ's, very few commercials, massive eclectic playlists). I dislike Top 40 radio, mostly due to all the politics, payola, repetitiveness, and pure crap that's played.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? I listen to all of it. I know alot about classic rock, and I think some of the best music came out of the 1970's. (Yes, I even own alot of old vinyl).
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : I'm currently a Senior Music Business Major in college. Ideally, I'd like to be a Tour Manager for a large act, and eventually go into Artist Management. Both my parents work in the Music Business, so I kind of grew up around it.
What is the extent of your musical education? I play a bit of piano, but suck at most every other instrument. I was in showchoir for 8 years in highschool, and did all sorts of musicals and competitions. Now I've gotten out of the creative side of music and am studying the business side of the industry. In school I've studied History of Commercial Music, Music Journalism, and most any other subject you can think of.

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): Something Corporate, Saves the Day, Keith Urban, Backstreet Boys, Rascle Flatts, All-American Rejects, Lifehouse, Kelly Clarkson, Goo Goo Dolls, and then a million and a half random songs from Disney Movies and Disney Channel Movies...and a lot of soundtracks in general.
What was the best concert you've ever attended? Something Corporate hands down! I was in pain for two weeks after of it, but the power of all the people in the crowd and Andrew on stage and being three feet from him was amazing.
Do you listen to the radio? In the car because I only have a tape player in the car I've been driving.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? I listen to anything I like :p But it's mostly from the 90's, more current music and a lot of soundtracks.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : I am actually in the process of getting my degree in Music/Television/Flim to be come an audio-engineer and one day hope to own my own studio in my house so that I can roll out of bed and go to work in slippers >.>
What is the extent of your musical education? 7 years of band and other odd sound jobs...
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) Music in it's self is love :)

Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : naah
What is the extent of your musical education? I was in chorus In Jr High, does that count?
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) I don't really care.

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): OH MAN I have so many...Queen, Weezer, Metric, The Killers, Panic! at the Disco, Spoon, classical music (Mozart, Debussy, Liszt, etc.), John Mayer, showtunes, Coldplay, Maroon 5, Jay-Z, The Roots, Beck, Cake, Dashboard Confessional, the Pixies, Snow Patrol, the Stills, The Zutons
What was the best concert you've ever attended? I went to a Metric concert last year in which I was RIGHT up at the stage and a half-naked guy landed on my head. It was amazing.
Do you listen to the radio? Oh, all the time. I am a shameless Top 40 kid.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? I listen to about half-and-half, really.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : Nah.
What is the extent of your musical education? I've been playing the piano for ten years and the guitar for two.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) Commercial music is cool but I'd also like to hear about new music as well. :)

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): I really like a variety of artists, from rock to country to boy band to alternative to classical. I actually have many favorites.
What was the best concert you've ever attended? I saw Tony Lucca and Joe Firstman at a small venue in Modesto, CA last August, and man, was that a good show. It's always so much fun when the venue is small enough that the artists interact with the audience.
Do you listen to the radio? XM, mostly, but sometimes local stations.
Do you listen to a lot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? Both! It's kind of funny to think of 90's music as "older" music, but heck, I guess it is.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : I used to, and in a way, still kind of do. I was going to go into music education with the plan on teaching high school orchestra, but that changed once I got into college. You know what would be a cool job? A music historian, say, for VH1 or MTV or a record label, and put together shows or books about artists or genres.
What is the extent of your musical education? I've played viola/violin for 16 years, and minored in music in college.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) Any kind, really. I look forward to any kind of activity!

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): Weezer, Death Cab for Cutie, Chiodos, the Fall of Troy, Modest Mouse, Q and Not U, Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, the Early November, Coldplay, Coheed and Cambria, the Academy Is.., Alexisonfire, Frou Frou, Mae, the Mars Volta, Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy.. er, yeah, I'd say that's enough. lol
What was the best concert you've ever attended? So far.. I think a Paul McCartney concert I saw like in September-ish? Maybe early October. It was just really great.
Do you listen to the radio? Only if I'm in the car with no cds.. I generally don't like it though. Too many commercials ruining it for me. And the local rock or whatever station is really dumb.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? Mostly current, but I do listen to a bunch of older music. It's too good and classic not to.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.): I'm really not sure. I enjoy it, but I'm no aces at performing in front of people. I get really nervous. But I do love playing instruments and singing. I'm not much of a writer either. So most likely not, but you never know.
What is the extent of your musical education? I've been taking piano lessons for 6 years, and I've been playing clarinet for 5 in school, and I took singing lessons for 4 years.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) Anything is good! Activity is splediferous! :D

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): Can I just say I love like...everything exept gospel, classical, and faux-punk?
What was the best concert you've ever attended? Distillers and Crowned King (band from Vancouver) together at Reds. Kickass mosh pit, and the guys from CK are totally hot. It was a blast. Of course, seeing Misfits, Good Riddance and a couple of other punk bands was pretty kickass too.
Do you listen to the radio? Not too often, because they play the same crap over and over and over and over like, constantly. I mean, I like hearing songs I like a lot, but when they're being played like, four times in a two hour period, it's grating.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? I pretty much listen to anything.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : Used to want to be a singer, until I realized I couldn't hold a tune, and that was the only job I ever really wanted in music
What is the extent of your musical education? Band class. Up to grade 10.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) I think it should be focused on everything

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): There's too many! Lately I've been listening to a lot of Something Corporate (thanks to
What was the best concert you've ever attended? I haven't been to a concert in forever. The one I remember the best is a Dave Matthews Band concert that my friends took me to for my birthday. I had so much fun and it was just the band on stage, no pyrotechnics, no fancy dance moves. Just good music and good friends.
Do you listen to the radio? I actually listen to the radio in the mornings for the talk show on one of the alternative stations in town. That's why I am always behind when new songs are released.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? Mostly current. But I do get in my 80s and 90s moods every so often. I even made me an 80s mixtape a few weeks ago :)
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : DJs make it seem so easy, but other than that, no.
What is the extent of your musical education? I believe in elementary school we had to sing "The Rose" during a music lesson. That's about it.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) Anything and everything. Bring it on :)

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): I really love musicals: Rent, Wicked Phantom of the Opera, Avenue Q, Chess, Cabaret, Les Miserables, etc. That is my favorite type of music. In addition to that, I like Rob Thomas, Henry Mancini, John Williams, Maroon 5, Josh Groban, Backstreet Boys, Jump Little Children, Rufus Wainwright, Eminem, Rascal Flatts, Lonestar, Brad Paisley, Martina McBride, Switchfoot, The Beatles, and Queen. I also really love 60's music.
What was the best concert you've ever attended? Goodness...It was the Backstreet Boys' Millennium tour. I was so in awe of them.
Do you listen to the radio? Generally only when I'm in my car.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? I used to listen to nothing but oldies (50's and 60's). I listen to a lot of 90's music, more so than I do today's music.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : No, that's quite alright. I'm just a fan of it.
What is the extent of your musical education? Non-existant. I took piano as a required course to graduate, but I mostly like to listen to music, not play.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) Anything is fine with me. I'd like to increase my musical knowledge.

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): Hmmm . . . Such a tough question! Well, I have pretty eclectic music tastes, but my favorites are probably They Might Be Giants, Phil Ochs, The Notorious B.I.G., Sarah McLachlan, Kanye West, Utada Hikaru, The Breeders, and the Klein Four Group (a very geeky math acapella group. I have to admit to liking them not so much there musical abilities as for the adorkable lyrics. "The path of love is never smooth//but mine's continuous for you") Plus, Sondheim and Gilbert and Sullivan, although aren't really artists or bands, seeing as how they write the songs, they count in my mind. Oh! And lastly, Polychrome, a band that covers a very broad range of styles, but has fantastically well written songs, and an amazing singer . . .
What was the best concert you've ever attended? Probably a They Might Be Giants concert in Chicago! I love They Might Be Giants so very much.
Do you listen to the radio? Yes and no. I'm afraid I don't listen to the radio at school, but when I'm home I tend to listen to it a decent amount. However, I'm home quite rarely (pretty much just around thanksgiving and christmas), so this means I really don't listen to the radio much at all.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? Lots of older music. I love the singer/songwriters of the 60's and 70's, and I adore musicals, so that there results in a lot of older music for me. In addition, I like a decent amount of stuff from the late 80's/early 90's, and a bunch of other, kinda random, stuff . . . However, I don't tend to listen to that much *really* current music, since I don't listen to the radio much.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : Nope, I'm afraid not
What is the extent of your musical education? Well, I had vocal lessons when I was younger, and was in the choir, but that's pretty much it.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) Hmmmm, well I would probably perfer to focus more on commercial music. Possibly disscussing song lyrics, controversial songs, and what not . . .

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): The Smiths, The Decemberists, The Shins, Tilly and the Wall, Regina Spektor, Rufus Wainwright, Joanna Newsom.
What was the best concert you've ever attended? Regina Spektor, Nov 05.
Do you listen to the radio? Nope
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? Mostly current music, but I love The Smiths, The Beatles, and Shirley Collins (amongst others)
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : No :D
What is the extent of your musical education? Eight years classical piano training, five years classical flute training. I was in Concert Band for four years, school choir for three, and regional wind band for two.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) I like a mix of it all, music is music.

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): I have very diverse tastes in music, I really like Green Day, Depeche Mode, The Killers, Enya, Lorena McKennit, the Beatles...etc..
What was the best concert you've ever attended? I know this is going to sound really stupid, but I am almost 21 and have yet to attend a concert of my choice, the only one I have been to, was the Down From the Mountain tour, which was different blue grass singers, that my Mom wanted to go to. Now this is not to say I didn't like it, but I would prefer to pick my own.
Do you listen to the radio? Ya, I have many different stations, but my favorite plays, 80s 90s and Today.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? I listen to some new music, but I prefer older stuff, my favorite decade is the 80s, I got a whole box full of 80s cds for Christmas.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : Not really, just like to listen. Except I'd like to learn some instruments, like the flute, and maybe piano.
What is the extent of your musical education? I had required music classes in grade school, and then in Middle school, had to play the Guitar and Recorder. I really enjoyed the recorder and want to continue learning it.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) Any of them sound good, we should mix them all up so that activities don't get too repetative.

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): Nightwish, Kitchens of Distinction, Klaatu, Backstreet Boys,
What was the best concert you've ever attended? Arrogant Worms. Also, the only non-symphony/opera I've attended.
Do you listen to the radio? Yes. Frequently. I'm quite fond of the white noise between stations.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music?
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? :I've considered being a musical therapist, working with mostly physically disabled kids, but there isn't a degree program for that in my country, and I'm not interested in getting a music degree for my bachelors anyway.
What is the extent of your musical education? Long-ago private lessons in violin and keyboard, and junior high and high school clarinet.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) I'd love to see activities on a mix of all kinds of music, from popular to little known, classical to modern. And activities about basic music theory would be fun, and debates about musical topics, and just anything about music!

What was the best concert you've ever attended? A tie between the Murderdolls when they supported Papa Roach in Manchester and CKY in Newcastle. They were both just awesome shows, but I think CKY just edges it because I didn't get stuck in a train station miles away from home until 4am after that one, and I met Jess Margera.
Do you listen to the radio? Not really. I do occasionally if there are no CDs available and my mp3 player's battery is dead.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? A mixture of it all.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : No, I can't sing for toffee, I just like listening to the stuff.
What is the extent of your musical education? Just a bit in school, but it wasn't really useful. It was more messing about, playing "The Entertainer" on keyboards than education.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) I don't mind at all.

What is the extent of your musical education? Nothing more than music classes in high school. I'm more of a fan than a participant.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) It doesn't really matter to me. Trivia, discussions, and things of that nature are my favorite.

Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? I must say that I enjoy new music, but I have such a great respect for old music. Considering that most of the bands that were big in the past were the starting ground for soo many social revolutions that we take for granted.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : Meeh, I doubt it. But I sing right now in school and I plan on taking music classes in college, and maybe do a musical or two when I'm a working actor.

Name Your favorite bands/artists (as many as you like): I have quite a few from all sorts of genres but my all-time tops would be Linkin Park, Cold, Chevelle, Evanescence, Breaking Benjamin, Seether, Disturbed, AC/DC, Rush, Queen, Colin James, and Green Day.
What was the best concert you've ever attended? That would be the most recent, which was Green Day in August. It was my first time seeing them live and I wasn't sure what to expect. It was chaotic and loud and it was a bloody fantastic experience and we each fed off each others energy. I loved their ability to involve the audience in all aspects of the performance, and it showed that they truly loved the music they were playing. They put their heart and soul into it, and that concert was something I'll never forget.
Do you listen to the radio? Not as much as I used to, mostly because my taste is so varied that I end up getting annoyed with stations that play crappy songs and I flip stations every 10 minutes. I suppose you could say I'm really picky.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? Totally! I love Classic Rock, and I have my Dad to thank for that. I grew up listening to awesome bands like Boston, Led Zepellin, AC/DC, Queen, Chicago, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd, and so many others. I love listening to the the classic rock just as much as I enjoy the new alternative/punk kind of rock.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.): I'm a very artistic and creative person and my passion in life is acting, however I also love singing and from what I've been told, I'm fairly good (I'm auditioning for Canadian Idol in April. Eek, lol) A job in a creative environment would be great for me, but I think my calling is really for the dramatic arts.
What is the extent of your musical education? I'm not professionally trained in the industry but I'd say that I know quite a lot about music. I like that I have quite a varied taste in music because I'm not partial to only one type and judgemental against every other. I know the classics with The Beatles, just as I enjoy listening to the present day Green Day music, so I think it's great to know where music evolved from.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) To be honest, I'm not sure what kinds of things you do here as I'm still fairly new, but from what I have seen I think it looks great. I can't live without music and It's such a fantastic outlet. Personally I'd love to look into all kinds of music, not just the mainstream 'pop' that is the basis these days. I've seen some trivia which I'd love to participate in, and other fun contests would be a lot of fun.

What was the best concert you've ever attended?
Do you listen to the radio? Occasionally, but I tend to be more of a CD person.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? I tend to listen to more current stuff for the most part because that's what I'm mostly exposed to. Well, actually, I prefer 90s country to some of (but not all of) the newer country, and I've actually enjoyed some of the older rock I've listened to.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : I think it would be fun, and I enjoy music, but it's not really what I'm pursuing.
What is the extent of your musical education? I've been in choir since before I can remember, I was a drummer in the sixth grade, and we played recorders throughout elementary school. ;) I also play a little but of piano.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) I don't really have any particular preference. :)

What was the best concert you've ever attended? Any Crüxshadows concert, the put on such an incredible show.
Do you listen to the radio? Yes.
Do you listen to alot of older music (70's, 80's, 90's), or mostly current music? A mix of both. I listen to everthing from the Beatles and the Monkees to D12 and Velvet Revolver.
Do you want to work in the music business or in a music-related job? (singer, music journalist, manager, teacher, etc.) : I use to want to be a singer, but I have a fear of singing in public so I gave that up.
What is the extent of your musical education? I took choir classes from 1st grade all the way through my senior year of high school and I was in show choir for one year. I started playing the piano in 2nd grade. I started band in 4th grade playing the clarinet, in 8th grade I switch to the oboe, freshman year I switched to percussion (mallet instruments, ie: xylophone, marimba, vibaphone, etc.) and then sophmore year I quit band, but I continued to participate in marching band as a member of the color guard.
Would you like the Music Club to focus more on commercial music, traditional music, or another type? (In other words, what kind of activities would you like to see?) Actually, I would like to see a variety of different music discussed. I think to focus on only one aspect would be incomplete.
