Activity: Fashion Trends - a discussion

Details: Every summer we have new fashion trends but do you like them? What would you change?
And do you think the Harry Potter characters would wear them?

So let's have a little debate. It's about fashion and I know that I love to talk about what models have been wearing on the runway (and well, when watching Germany's next topmodel I also laugh about the "models")
Anyways, like every summer there are some must-wears - at least that's what Fashion magazines tell us. But what do you think about these must-wears? Do you like them? Hate them? And would Hermione, Ron, Draco or Snape wear them? I googled some of the trends and posted the pictures so you have an idea what to talk about.

I absolutely adore fashion so this activity is right up my alley.

Get graphic: For my personal style I'd rather have graphic done is minimum quantities, more as accessories. But as a concept I do very much enjoy the idea of a graphic. I think that on the right person graphics make a bold statement and that's something I can get behind.

90's Nostalgia: This isn't my favourite style but I know that it can be pulled off by the right people. I suppose that even though I grew up in the 90s, I wasn't one to love the 90s fashion. I just...don't understand it for me. Also the 90s weren't very big on classic shapes which are my favourite lol

Sexy Sixties: I can get behind this fashion 100%. I love the lines and the shapes that a re-vamped 60s fashion gives.

Belted coats are always a win. I don't see how they can ever go wrong. Grey on grey is pretty sweet too. I think that darker shades of grey would make this style works best, otherwise it looks like it was accidental and that's not so great. Cropped pants...just no. Especially not on men. I already find it odd when men cross their legs and you see their ankles.

*grey-on-grey high-five* I definitely agree---having some darker shades involved makes it all look that much more put-together.

And seriously. Seeing people's ankles when they cross their legs because their pants ride up. It's so weird to me---women's pants are so very rarely like that, it seems.

I have the answer for the pant things. Women's pants are often longer because they wear high heels. The result being that when women cross their legs, the pants rides up but because it's longer than men's pants we don't see women's ankles.

I feel like it can't just be that, though. I rarely wear heels, so my pants are all hemmed for flats---but my ankles still don't show. Maybe it's just that women's pants are often tighter and so don't ride up as easily? (I do get the feeling that my dress pants, which are looser than my jeans & cords, show more ankle.)

I wonder if some of it is how men cross their legs, too, so their ankles are more exposed than when women cross their legs? I don't know, but you are totally right. And it could be that women's pants are just more fitted to not do that than men's. I never thought about it before, but now I totally am sitting here pondering it! lol

I completely agree with you on everything you say about 90's nostalgia looks. It wasn't my favorite style either; I much preferred the 60's and 70's when it comes to retro/vintage/nostalgic looks. Most of the time I don't understand why people want to wear that stuff in the first place, but if they do it well, I can support them.

I wasn't one to love the 90s fashion

Gurl I am with you. On rewatches of Charmed and Buffy I something just...............CRINGE. Those awkward crop tops and randomly baggy shit and high waisted denim jeans. There are some ELEMENTS that I could see being cool to bring back.....but as a whole NO THANK YOU

Some version of crop tops seem to be back...and this point really has no real point other than me saying awesome that you watch both Buffy and Charmed!

Although I do think that Lavender would have worn those crop tops had she been a Muggle in the 90s.

I think you've nailed my thoughts on Get Graphic-- I enjoy it as a concept, but I know I would shy away from it. I'd be interested to experiment with it but I tend to favor clothing that can be switched around a lot and I feel like large graphics are hard to pair and match.

I love graphic shapes as accessories! I totally am with you right there on that.

Same with belted coats. I think those can work just as well for women as they do for men. And heh, I am so in agreement on the cropped pants. If anything, it works a bit better on women, if you're wearing sandals or something and it's slightly higher than in the photo so it's more like long capris than ill-fitting pants, but on men, it is just one big no.
