Activity: Fashion Trends - a discussion

Details: Every summer we have new fashion trends but do you like them? What would you change?
And do you think the Harry Potter characters would wear them?

So let's have a little debate. It's about fashion and I know that I love to talk about what models have been wearing on the runway (and well, when watching Germany's next topmodel I also laugh about the "models")
Anyways, like every summer there are some must-wears - at least that's what Fashion magazines tell us. But what do you think about these must-wears? Do you like them? Hate them? And would Hermione, Ron, Draco or Snape wear them? I googled some of the trends and posted the pictures so you have an idea what to talk about.

I'm not going to address all the fashions here because that's too intense for me. But let's start with 90s nostalgia because I love it. I wish I didn't work in an office-type place so I could wear overalls everyday. (Seriously, I loved my overalls when I was 8.) But let's face it, that will never with work-attire. Neither will any other oversized, brightly colored 90s gear. Sad times. Cropped pants I think are stupid for anyone. I hate the idea that you can see their socks. And it will always look like you recently grew a couple inches and haven't had time to buy new pants yet. I just don't even know where this could come from or how this could be considered a "trend." And, while I think belted coats are nice, why would anyone ever wear a belt coat in the summertime? And okay I would never wear that 60s inspired dress but I think it's gorgeous.

Admittedly, I begged a differ. I can wear 90's gear with my work, but I work at a library so things might be vastly different than for those who work in an office.

While I wouldn't use the word stupid, I do agree. Unforrtunately, pants always looked cropped on me because of my short height and bad hem jobs.

why would anyone ever wear a belt coat in the summertime

LOL, I do? I don't wear thick, heavy ones, but light ones? Definitely. They're good for rainy/cloudy/windy days. Help keep warm in, cold out.

Yeaaaaaaaaah that's one thing about 90s fashion iirc. TONS of denim and flannel and just oversized clothing which just tends toward the super casual and not really office appropriate. I think the recent 80s trend was better suited for office wear.

I think that's why I like 90's Nostalgia : it's not work-attire material :D It's so laid-down, it just makes me want to lay in the grass and relax. I think I'll wear an oversized jumper more often than a fitted skirt (but then again, I don't have to wear a fitted skirt to work...)

lol. Your reason for liking 90s style is my reason for avoiding it. For my own style I'm not to much a fan of uber laid back clothes. I'd pick the fitted skirt any time over an oversized jumper. I feel like Hagrid would rock the 90s Nostalgia look.

Oooh, I've never imagined Hagrid as wearing anything else than leather-y stuff, but actually yes, 90s would look good on him!!

Leather pants are (late) 90s-y, right?

(I'm totally picturing Hagrid in like Backstreet Boys-esque clothing and it's HORRIFYING.)

OMG NOW I HAVE THIS IMAGE STUCK IN MY HEAD AND FEEL A SUDDEN URGE TO WATCH ONE OF THEIR VIDEOS HAHAHAHAHA
Horrifying indeed. But oddly, I think he would fit alright in "Backstreet's back".

Oh my god he would. It would be PERFECT.

I wish I had vid skills, someone needs to photoshop him and his motorbike into that video....

I remember owning, like, three pairs of overalls and thinking they were awesome. Good point about belted coats for the summer, though. I hadn't even considered that. Not the most sensible fashion choice. I'm not a huge fan of cropped pants, but I think part of it depends on how it fits into the overall outfit. If the guy were wearing them with sandals and a T-shirt it would make a heck of a lot more sense than wearing them with a business outfit.

Oh my gosh, overalls. Talk about nostalgia. I owned so many pairs! I loved them! I completely forgot that they'd fall under the 90's nostalgia era, and I think that's one look from that era that I could actually get behind. But I just hope that that trend isn't mixed with the graphics/patterns because then I'd just get overwhelmed from all the colors and stuff - and it's not like the 90's never did things like that. Look at those zebra print pants from back then... haha

I actually laughed out loud when I read this. I live in the Bay Area and this is so obviously a thing right now that I spend pretty much all the days just shaking my head.

Also, belted light jackets or sweaters are nice in the summer, especially if you live in a place that cools down at night---I've often brought belted outerwear with me on summer nights here.
