Activity: Fashion Trends - a discussion
Points: initial comment: 10 points, 2pts per additional comment
Deadline: May 15th, 21:00 UTC
Details: Every summer we have new fashion trends but do you like them? What would you change?
And do you think the Harry Potter characters would wear them?
So let's have a little debate. It's about fashion and I know that I love to talk about what models have been wearing on the runway (and well, when watching Germany's next topmodel I also laugh about the "models")
Anyways, like every summer there are some must-wears - at least that's what Fashion magazines tell us. But what do you think about these must-wears? Do you like them? Hate them? And would Hermione, Ron, Draco or Snape wear them? I googled some of the trends and posted the pictures so you have an idea what to talk about.

Date: 2013-05-02 05:20 am (UTC)1. Get Graphic - I'm not a big fan of graphic prints myself, although I understand the appeal and often like them on others. I actually like graphic print accessories - I have scarves and shoes and purses that have brightly coloured graphic prints and I love pairing them with solid coloured outfits. I like have "basics" that can go through absolutely any trend with a simple switch of accessories. It's money saving but also I hate actually shopping (not online though, and sometimes I do like going to the mall? I don't know, it's very strange). I could see Luna, Ginny, and Lavender all embracing graphic prints. Luna just seems like she's attracted to things that are unique, whereas Ginny and Lavender are both bright and like to stand out, which graphic prints would help them do.
2. 90s Nostalgia - LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. Although that photo is not 90s nostalgia, in fact I'm not sure what on earth it is. Unless I'm completely mistaken. I love 90s fashion. The layers, the oversized tops paired with tight leggings or jeans, military boots, babydoll dresses, FLANNEL. These are things I've always worn, and I'm so happy to see that it's coming back. It's such a comfortable, easy style to adopt, and a lot of the wardrobe pieces can easily be used when another trend comes up. I could see Cho and Hermione doing a less grungey version of this style (maybe ballerinas instead of boots with babydoll dresses).
3. Sexy Sixties - 90s fashion was heavily influenced by 60s fashion, so it's no doubt that I love it as well. It's a more sophistocated, sleek style and can be so flattering. I can see Pansy living and breathing this look because it is really sexy and classy and sultry, all things that my headcanon!Pansy values.
Men
1. Cropped trousers - Hate it. It never looks intentional to me; it always looks like the dude sucks at shopping and/or laundry and doesn't have anything else to wear. I'm not really sure what the motivation is behind it, but it's just so tacky and cheap looking. That said, I could see Draco trying a pair once, getting made fun, and rushing home to change and tell his father about it.
2. Grey on grey - I can dig this sometimes, like if it's a nice shade of grey, quality material, and styled properly. Like the supplied photo - I think that model looks absolutely fab. The problem is that grey can sometimes look cheap or the colour itself can be uneven (I don't know how to explain this properly, but a lot of times light to medium greys tend to look like they're faded in some spots). The dark, charcoal or slate greys could pull it off, absolutely. It's a little more interesting than black... even if it's all the same shade of grey, it doesn't look as flat as black sometimes can. I'm imagining Blaise and Cormac McLaggen working this look.
3. Belted coats - YES PLEASE. It just really pulls a nice outfit (or suit!) together so nicely, and makes it super easy to incorporate my favourite men's accessory, the super soft scarf! We already know that these coats are almost universally flattering on women, and I love that more and more men are rocking it too. It's amazing. I'm imagining Lupin and Viktor Krum both wearing belted coats and looking good indeed. Also Neville.

Date: 2013-05-03 12:47 am (UTC)Uhm. YES. I have so many graphic scarves to match with my simple clothes, it's actually something I'm known for -- that, and having graphic nails and graphic purses. Anything can be graphic, not just clothes, which is probably the only way I like graphic fashion. Too much of it hurts, where as having it as an accessory is something I find perfect.

90's is such a comfortable style -- but maybe I'm just being unfair to the others, since my style is basically 90's? I can definitely agree with the less grungy version of this style for Cho, but for Hermione, I think she could pull this off splendidly. And would want to.

Also I agree with you on Pansy in the 60s trend. The other one I can see is Luna rocking a Twiggy type style. I think it would really suit her.

Aaaaah I hadn't thought of Sexy Sixties this way, but yeah, Pansy would pull it off big time! It is very sultry indeed...
About Grey on Grey : YES for Blaise and Cormac. Absolutely. They'd really rock it :)
And oooh, Neville, Lupin and Viktor would look nice with belted coats indeed!

Date: 2013-05-05 07:29 pm (UTC)That flannel outside is something I'd always wanted to trip but never bothered paying for a flannel shirt lol. Granted now I'd wear dark skinny jeans, lovely heeled boots a white tank top with the flannel...but the spirit is still there.

Date: 2013-05-03 10:38 pm (UTC)I love your cropped trousers stuff, too. I really think it just makes the person looks a million different negative things, like unintelligent or bad at laundry or just... blind. Or blind to his own body type/size. However the image of Draco attempting them and getting made fun of makes me glad that they are in existence, even just for a fictional character.

Date: 2013-05-03 11:02 pm (UTC)I always wish I could do babydolls and oversize tees. It really does look comfortable and easy. I end up looking so incredibly schlumpy every time, though.
(Also, I love the idea of Draco getting made fun of for wearing cropped trousers. So good. So much ficspiration now.)
