Activity: Fashion Trends - a discussion

Details: Every summer we have new fashion trends but do you like them? What would you change?
And do you think the Harry Potter characters would wear them?

So let's have a little debate. It's about fashion and I know that I love to talk about what models have been wearing on the runway (and well, when watching Germany's next topmodel I also laugh about the "models")
Anyways, like every summer there are some must-wears - at least that's what Fashion magazines tell us. But what do you think about these must-wears? Do you like them? Hate them? And would Hermione, Ron, Draco or Snape wear them? I googled some of the trends and posted the pictures so you have an idea what to talk about.

I've never been much for super-graphic clothes - I prefer plain colours or softer/simpler patterns. That said, bright colours and big, simple patterns (think wide stripes) are very fun, so if those become popular, I'll be pleased. When I was in Rome this spring, I saw a lot of black and white stripes, which looked extremely cool - that's something that I would be happy to see more of in the fashion world.

I have no idea what "'90s Nostalgia" is supposed to include. That picture makes me go kind of o_O because I don't care for "purposefully awful"-type looks, which is what that looks like to me. I mean, that collar... what is the point of that collar?

Revival of '60s fashions would make me squee! I don't have the body type for a lot of the mod fashions (damn thighs), but they look so good on other people. And if hippie fashions ever make a proper comeback, I'll be all set, because I already dress like a hippie most of the time. (when I'm not being Victorian Goth-y).

Belted coats are fantastic, and it thrills me to know that they're a trend right now. I think they're incredibly cool, they look good on nearly everyone, and they're warm besides (that's a pretty massive concern here in Alberta...). Also, I just bought a belted coat like... two days ago, so I'm totally on board with this trend :D

I'm certain that 90s nostalgia is not supposed to look that stupid. I consider my personal style to be kind of early 90s, and I think it's a great look. Doc Martens, flannel, babydoll dresses, oversized tops with black leggings, layering.... basically, think Winona Ryder in Reality Bites (or any number of her films from that time, but I just really like Reality Bites). I didn't really know that this was ~coming back~ so I'm happy to learn that I'm finally on trend.

I never considered babydoll dresses full out 90's (maybe because I am~ a 90's baby, lol) but I loved flannel and oversized tops with layering. It's my every day wear, without a doubt.

In and of themselves, babydoll dresses aren't specifically 90s, but with the right styling they are (Courtney Love at this time... omg yes).

All of this. I have next to nothing when it comes to graphic clothes, and if there is something, ten times out of ten, it's a simple graphic tee that I bought for work. And I love wide stripes, but I've been told they don't help my looks, but whatever. They're pretty. ♥

While the collar does make me think wtf, whenever I think of 90's, my mind always goes to the television shows, so.....

I love belted coats. And they are helpful; despite the fact that it's been a high 20 degrees here in Ontario. I still wear them with pride.

Oh goodness. The entire time I was writing my comment, I was trying to think of how to describe 90's looks, and you hit the nail on the head with "purposefully awful." I really don't think that head-to-toe 90's nostalgia would be a good look. I think if that's the route someone wants to go, they should find a genuine piece of clothing from then and add it to their existing wardrobe. And if they want to do that, they should add that one piece to a bunch of good looking pieces to try to offset the bad that comes from the 90's piece of clothing.

I just want to say omg yes to stripes. They're one of my absolute favorite patterns. That, and pinstripes and polka dots. ;)

I do think this trend is very "accessible", could suit most people. It has to be well-fitted though, I think... (I really dislike when guys wear this kind of coat because they like to look dramatic but it doesn't suit them at all, sigh)

Hippie & Victorian Goth-y? I should love to take a look at your dressing :D

Yeah, I don't get the 90's Nostalgia look at all :P I just noticed the mismatched sock! And they're not even fun socks with a silly print on them (which I could kind of see being 90s) they're just black and white! I think if that sweater had been paired with some baggy jeans or cargo pants that would have been a better representation of the 90s

lol. I actually don't mind the collar in and of itself. What bothers me about is that it's not straight. If it would be straights I'm okay with it because that's just layering. And you are very much right, belted coats look amazing on pretty much any body type. :D

PS: I like that icon of yours.
