Details: Every summer we have new fashion trends but do you like them? What would you change?
And do you think the Harry Potter characters would wear them?

So let's have a little debate. It's about fashion and I know that I love to talk about what models have been wearing on the runway (and well, when watching Germany's next topmodel I also laugh about the "models")
Anyways, like every summer there are some must-wears - at least that's what Fashion magazines tell us. But what do you think about these must-wears? Do you like them? Hate them? And would Hermione, Ron, Draco or Snape wear them? I googled some of the trends and posted the pictures so you have an idea what to talk about.

I'm a big fan of graphic prints, grey on grey, and belted coats (all for both men and women). Bright, bold graphics just make me happy---they have so much personality. Grey is one of my favorite colors, so I'm always happy to see a lot of grey, and I like grey on grey especially because it tends to make you pay more attention to texture & the fabric itself, which is very appealing to me. As far as belted coats---I have an hourglass figure, and so I vastly prefer belted coats on myself. They're snug and form-fitting without being tight, and I like that a lot in clothes.

That being said, I am very skeptical of cropped trousers---they can make people look stumpy, or like they grew six inches overnight. I know that my legs look about three inches shorter in pants that are cropped at the ankle, so I think I have an especially strong reaction to them. ;) I tend to be rather indifferent to "90s" or "60s" as trends; there's too many details that get lost in those as labels. Like, 60s includes both mod & hippy---hard to treat those as similar styles...

Snape would totally wear belted coats. Luna would wear all the graphic prints ever. And Ron would go for 90s nostalgia.

See, I think bold graphics have too much personality, which is why I probably don't like them that much, aha. And while one can definitely focus more on the textures and fabrics when wearing grey, I find it too boring of a color.

I kind of like to mix it up, put it somewhere in the middle.

I definitely don't like graphic prints everywhere---it can definitely get to be too much for me. Like, I wouldn't wear super bold pants, because there's so much of them. But I do have a graphic print pencil skirt that I like to wear, usually with a plain shirt.

I just love grey. It's not boring at all to me. :)

See, I think if you can tone down the boldness of a graphic print with something simple, then you're good, but if all you're wearing is graphic prints, then I'm going to be squinting my eyes, aha.

TBH, I think it depends on the grey for me.

Yeah, I agree that tons of graphic prints can be a little overly-busy. There's something to be said for having at least a remnant of subtlety. ;)

ohhh, a graphic print pencil skirt sounds lovely. That's the kind of graphic that I'm a fan of. Like one piece of an outfit whether it's a skirt or a top, with another more simple piece. That is my book works out very well.

I love the thought of Ron going 90s nostalgia! I hadn't considered it, but I can see it happening!

I like grey, but I feel like grey on grey is too much grey. I like having something that will attract my eyes, because otherwise I'm just going to pass over it. At least the pocket hanky could be a color, or even white! It just becomes a little too drab for my taste.

I just want to see him in, like, early 90s acid washed jeans. Lols.

I think that grey on grey works best with (a) different shades of grey (the picture up there is way too homogenous---like, you want light grey and dark charcoal) and (b), with a pop of color, like you said. Light grey paints + charcoal shirt + red shoes and a white pocket square? Hell yes. :)

I'm right there with you when it comes to the cropped pants - I haven't seen a single person that looked good while wearing them. What kills me is that so many people wear them and think that they look good. I just want to hand them a tape measure and say "THIS IS YOUR INSEAM FIND JEANS WITH THE CORRESPONDING NUMBER" but instead I just look away and avoid the monstrosity completely.

I've definitely seen people who looked good in them, but it doesn't seem to be the prevailing trend. ;) A lot of it seems to be about leg length and the leg line from hip through ankle---like, if cropped skinny trousers >> cropped loose trousers, at least for me.

That's an interesting perspective on grey on grey, drawing attention to texture instead of color? I'd like to see it work but it's gonna take a pretty obviously different texture contrasted against one to work?

Contrast would probably be useful, though I imagine that if you used a bold enough fabric that you wouldn't need a lot of contrast (like, a dress made of silk or a chunky knit). I'm a big fan of silk, wools, brocades, lace, interesting knits, corduroys, and similar fabrics; they're all things that on their own are very interesting, and don't necessarily need a ton of color to stand out.

I love the idea of a grey brocade coat over a grey wool skirt & a grey silk blouse. That's definitely not a visually boring outfit, even if it looks more demure from a distance---once you get up close, you see so much pattern & texture contrast.
