Three positive traits: I’m very quick. Intellectually, I mean – physically, that is just a hilarious laughing matter. I’ve almost always got some sarcastic, cynical thing to say, but it always comes from a good place. I am just a huge appreciator of the sarcastic comment, and have been known for it in circles of friends. I am smart. Not always in the conventional sense, but I’ve always been a pretty typical nerd. Academically, and just in general – I love to read and literacy, as well as video games and dancing to music badly in my car. I’ve always got a drive to learn more and be more, to debate and talk. I have a degree in Rhetoric, which is a fancy way to say public speaking – I just love to engage people, however they want to engage. I am a textbook Ravenclaw. Lastly, I’m dedicated. Once I start something, I’m going to see it through. This shows in my school work, my friendships, video games, books, relationships, you name it. I’ve always been the Type A organized person, the one who is in charge of the group projects and hates writing a paper in more than one day.

Three negative traits: I’m an over-thinker. I am by nature an anxious person, and this manifests itself sometimes in relationships, but also with things like a school test (“I finished first, am I totally wrong?”) or a social gathering (“nobody is looking at me, do I smell funny today?”), and it can carry over from there. I’ll play an issue or topic over and over in my head sometimes, and it can be a pain. I don't always have a filter and I am stubborn like bull. I attempt to, and I try to, and most days I do all right, but it's hard for me to always bite back what I want to say. I'm working on it and getting better, but it's like the words are a wave and my lips are the floodgates and if someone is hurting me or someone I care for, I can't hold it in any more. Lastly, I can be a realist and sometimes that can burst the bubbles of others. I tell it like it is, which a lot of people surprisingly respect. I don't ever do it if it's mean or only self-advantageous, though. It has to be to the benefit of the person I am being "realistic" to, like telling a friend in a bad relationship that she might need to leave.

Favorite historical period and why?: Medieval! All the way. I have been fascinated with the entire culture since I read Tamora Pierce at age 13, and I've never really looked back. I just love everything about it. The Lady of Shallot is my favorite poem!

How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: I don't? Haha.

What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: The Internet.

Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: My father. Can I say that? No? Um. Oh god I don't know. It genuinely is my dad.

How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: Meh, the having her own little pastural town to take vacations in or whatever is weird.
What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: Probably flight
Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: My mother is supposed to be my hero? Er, Abigail Adams.

1.) Idealistic - I truly believe there are endless possibilities in this world.
2.) Empathetic - It's fairly easy for me to feel the emotions of others, which allows me to help them through difficult times.
3.) Open-Minded - I’m extremely non-judgmental, and I take people (and their beliefs) as I find them.

Three negative traits:
1.) Anxious: I’ve been plagued with an anxiety disorder for many years, and it keeps me from doing a lot of things I would normally be able to do. It’s definitely what I hate most about myself.
2.) Bad Temper: I have a fairly long fuse, but when I get mad, I get MAD. Along with this, I tend to hold grudges. I might forgive, but I’ll never forget.
3.) Procrastinator: I can be soooo lazy when I want to be! Especially if something doesn’t have a deadline, like cleaning the house. I can always do it tomorrow XD

Favorite historical period and why?:
WHY DO YOU ASK THIS OF A HISTORY MAJOR???? XDD Umm...ok I guess my overall favorite would be Nara and Heian-era Japan, which ran from about 710 to 1185 AD. I adore ALL Japanese history, but this was a time of major cultural, literary and religious developments. Some of the most famous Japanese texts were written in these eras, including the first official histories (the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki), a famous anthology of poetry called the Man'yōshū, and of course The Tale of Genji and the Pillow Book. These eras also saw major developments in Buddhism.

I'll also add here that I love ANCIENT history in general - the older the better - so I adore Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece/Rome.

How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?:
She was a rather fascinating woman, really! Marriage at 14 is hard enough for any woman, but leaving her entire country behind to become a queen is something I think few few girls her age could do. Like almost all arranged unions, hers was not exactly a happy one, though she at least seems to have taken pleasure in her children. In some ways we can assume that she might have done more to help the poor of France, but at the same time, as a woman - even a queen - she only had so much influence in court. She was an easy target for people to focus on - she was beautiful and wealthy - and I think she gets more of a bad rap than she deserves. Her manner of death was quite sad.

What's the most important invention of the 20th century?:
I hate to be cliche, but I honestly can't imagine my life without computer in general and the internet in particular. It's really changed the way we live.

Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?:
BUT IT IS MY MOM!!! XD Can I say my husband? Or does that also defeat the purpose? XD FINE, SUPERMAN!!! \O/

Three positive traits: I'm incredibly observant, I'm a quick learner and pick up on new information easily, and I'm extremely empathetic.
Three negative traits: I'm extremely quick to anger and often hold grudges, I need a lot of alone time, and I'm ridiculously neurotic.
Favorite historical period and why?: It's a shame that I can't say the future, haha. I really am a lot more fascinated by the future than I am by the past. But I suppose that's all imagination and whimsy anyway. I'll say the post-war era of the 1940s through the 1960s, because it's interesting to consider what was going on with art and literature and society at the time.
How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: I'm afraid I don't really know.
What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: The airplane. Or PEZ. But probably the iron lung.
Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: My father. Damn it, it looks like Patricia already took my joke. Anyone who fights for the underdog, I'll say.

Favorite historical period and why?: Well anyone that knows me knows what a huge Steampunk fan I am, and that's because I ADORE that time period. Anywhere from about 1850 when railroads became a big deal all the way up to about the Great Depression are the most awesome times ever.
How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: Uhh... I guess I'd say she's still a relevant symbol of how out of touch the top 1% are with the bottom 99%.
What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: Internet? Pretty much anything invented during this time period that sped up communication gets an A+ in my book.

Favorite historical period and why?: I don't think I'd want to live in the past. My mindset is very much about the future. I am into science fiction and always trying to see the future. Sometimes you have a moment when you think "Wow, we are living in someone else's version of the future!" I mean, look at me, typing at a box in my house and you all reading it around the world. WOW.
How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: I don't know much history really but as I understand it she was spoiled and ignorant about the plight of her people.
What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: Oh wow. Actually, this isn't difficult. The radio. After the invention of the radio we were officially 'open for business' as a technologically advanced culture. We weren't space-faring yet and we hadn't invented the A-bomb-- events that many science fictions portray as the borders between The Past and The Future, but the radio was really that border. At that point we began broadcasting radio messages into space, inadvertently, and turned on our interstellar "WE ARE HERE" sign.
Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: I have looked up to a lot of people, but I don't know that there's one person I consider my hero. I do respect Hooke, JFK, Galileo, Carl Sagan, Cal Ripken Jr., Bill Shatner, Freddie Mercury, Brian May... and probably some others.

Three positive traits: I'm very optimistic. I can find the bright side in pretty much every situation. I have an it-can-always-get-worse attitude.I'm quite open-minded. I don't care who you are or what you look like or anything. I'll let you live your life if you let me live mine as long as it's not harming others. Finally, I'm very logical. I think with my head not with my heart. I know people say there are times when you should think with your heart, but I'm somewhat unemotional in a lot of things. So, thinking with my head is good for me.

Three negative traits: I'm unsympathetic. I'm definitely not the shoulder you want to cry on. I have trouble forming sympathies for others outside of my family. I just don't get it and I can't feel it. I'm ridiculously stubborn. This is probably my worst flaw. I just will not give up and admit I'm wrong (I am working on this and feel I have made some headway lol) Finally, even though I'm very open minded I often see things in black and white. Most of the time there are no shades of grey for me. It's either right or wrong and that's that.

Favorite historical period and why?: The Holocaust. Don't get me wrong, I know it was a horrible thing, but I can't help but be amazed by it. One man, who started off with good ideas, managed to either convince or scare almost an entire continent in to believing that certain types of people weren't the same as others. And not even just unequal, but so different that those people singled out deserved to be mass murdered. How does one person cause the deaths of millions of people? It's horrifying and incredible all in the same go, in my opinion.

How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: Seriously? If I had cake why the hell would I eat bread? Other than the fact that bread is awesome. Cake is so tasty! Now, we don't really know if she said that, but I was never really interested in French History....sorry people of France : (

What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: Hands down, the internet. Maybe I should say computers, but I'll stick with internet. Without the internet I wouldn't be here filling out this application and waiting for people from God-only-knows where to sort me : ) It's awesome.

Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: Honestly, I don't think I have one. I'm not even sure if my mom is one. Shes a great woman and I'm glad she had me, but I'm not sure she's my hero. I honestly can't think of a person I would give that title to. I tried to think of important people like MLK Jr., Mother Teresa, Ghandi, but none of them, or anyone else, really spark that oh-my-gosh-I-want-to-be-like-them reaction.

Are you on the roster?: I honestly don't know. I try to always check and make sure after I'm done with an activity though. So, if I'm not right now then I will be.

Blah, I never was good with grammar. Hyphens, commas, semi-colons, and colons always tripped me up. I hope I used them correctly. If I didn't then I only have one thing to say...stupid English.

Three positive traits: I am quite intelligent, if I do say so myself, with a great love of constantly learning more. I am creative and have a deep appreciation of all art forms. I am also a very passionate person, especially when I am interested in something.

Three negative traits: I am stubborn; it's my way or the highway many times and I'm not afraid to put my foot down. I am a know-it-all and I like to show it. I am also pretty messy (sometimes I just don't feel like making my bed or putting away my clothes).

Favorite historical period and why?: Hard question because I really love history in general. However, if I absolutely have to choose, I'd defintiely say the World War II era. Part of this is because my grandparents both served during the war, so that got me interested in the time period. I really like how our country (I'm an American) really came together to help the cause, as did other countries. I also love the time period in general. I love the movies, I love the fashions, I love the dances, and I love the music.

How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: From what I know, she was got a fairly raw deal. Sure, she may not have been the best queen in the history of France, but I don't think she deserved most of the scorn she received

What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: Well, "important" is pretty subjective. There were many 20th century inventions made our lives better. Do antibiotics count as an invention? If so, I'd say that since they really save lives (it used to be that the common cold could kill a person). If that doesn't count I'll say cell phones becaue they are very handy when you find yourself stranded somewhere.

Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: Another tough one! There are so many great people to choose from. I'll go with Abigail Adams, though. She is really one of the earliest feminists of the United States. She bucked tradition, as far as how women were expected to act. She was headstrong and intelligent. When John went off to Congress, she raised the children and looked after the farm by herself. She was also very much outspoken against slavery. I think she was a wonderful woman.

Three positive traits: I’m determined - I don’t give up easily. I’m very enthusiastic about things - if I love something, everyone knows about it. I’m very organized - I have a place for everything in my life and there’s nothing I like more than a complicated spreadsheet.
Three negative traits: I’m stubborn - I don’t give up easily (this is basically a double-edged sword, tbh). I’m controlling - I like deciding things and I like being in charge, and I’ve sort of … just taken over things before. I’m neurotic - I worry a lot, and I get upset if there are too many variables in a situation.
Favorite historical period and why?: I don’t know. I love so many! Probably the WWI era - it’s a war that fascinates me, although, tbf, I’m more interested in the aftermath and how disillusioned everyone was with it - or Ptolemaic Egypt, because that was what got me into history to begin with and because I love so many of the leading figures of the era. I also really love the end of the Roman Republic, though (can I count that as Ptolemaic Egypt, since in my mind their history is sort of wrapped up together?) and, oh, also the 1300s, because I love terrible things that kill you and I have such a fondness for the Black Death and how it changed society so drastically. Basically, I love history.
How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: I feel bad for her. She had a bad rap while she was alive and it’s gotten even worse since she’s died - as the fact that she’s known basically for being a spoiled, out-of-touch brat who said ‘let them eat cake’, even though that statement had been attributed to women in France long before Marie Antoinette was even born and historians are well aware that she never spoke those words - and it makes me sad. Despite being queen, she was forced into an unhappy marriage and she had pretty much no personal freedom, which is something I’ve always found depressing. I have a soft spot for women rulers who have been treated badly by their people and by history.
What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: The PC. Or, IDK, can I count the antibiotic? I know that it wasn’t invented, but the discovery of it was a major thing and changed a lot of lives.
Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: I don’t have one, tbh. No, not even my mother. I don’t know why, but I’ve never cared to look at people as heroes or even ~role models~. There are a whole host of people I look up to - and I spent a really long time debating whether I should put Agrippina the Younger here, although in the end I decided she wasn't so much a hero as much as someone I find extremely fascinating - but none that I really consider a hero.

Three negative traits: hyper critical of faults/wrongs | slacker | too prideful
Favorite historical period and why?: Norman Conquest to Richard I and the Crusades, usually (if not a little further to Chaucer). I like a bit of Celtic/Anglo-Saxon pre-invasion British Isles history, too, but I prefer the more orderly record keeping of William the Conqueror's time forward (otherwise it's a bit old mess of all these tiny, in-fighting tribal kingdoms; linear lines of descent are much easier for my anal retentive brain to handle). My Undergrad minor was in Medieval/Celtic Art History. I just love everything about the early British style. Illuminated manuscripts, the churches, the stone castles, chain mail, archery, pageantry, ridiculous superstition, the entire feudal system and even plowing methods for the fields. I know the Middle Ages were far reaching, but it's the British take I prefer, more removed from Catholic Rome. Darker, less hoity-toity than the French and Italians... less rough than the Germans.
How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: I am normally indifferent, but when forced to think on her, I think her vapid and removed from reality.That's a superficial opinion. I'm an Anglophile. French history bores the shit out of me.
What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: Indoor plumbing. No, seriously. I know it's a 19th century invention, but the widespread use of it happened in the 20th century. Every time we lose power, I can adapt. It's boring or hot or whatever, but books and candles and board games make it fine. Same with gas. Heat's cool, but blankets and fireplaces work well, too. But whenever the water gets shut off, gurrrllllll... worst ever. I mean, I've gotten better with squatting thanks to toilets in Japan, but even at old temples, you can FLUSH. I NEED TO FLUSH. MAKE IT GO AWAY.
Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: I am not one for heroes, really. I know people in history I want to punch in the face, but as to people I aspire to be like, no one, not even my mom. I usually aspire to be only myself at all times. But, if pressed, Elizabeth I. Because she successfully played the game, a woman in a man's world. She bartered her hand to win alliances with other countries, but when pressed said it was better that she was married to her country. She named and sponsored "Privateers" to raid Spanish ships while acting as if it was mere piracy. Under her, England flourished and Shakespeare's genius took form. She's totally a HBIC.

Favorite historical period and why?: I'm torn! It's between the Renaissance because it was such a cultural flowering of art and literature and everything that I'm fond of; America during the '20s ("the Golden Age") because I love the idea of flappers, jazz, and Prohibition (although I totally would have gotten around it); and also the '40s because I'm an aspiring amateur WWII historian and that period absolutely fascinates me with the politics and everything.
How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: She never said the line "let them eat cake!" Silly history warping words. I prefer Empress Maria Theresa's "purple makes a fine shroud", meaning she'd rather die a royal than live an outcast.
What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: Good grief I don't know! Honestly I was going to go read the comments and see what everyone else put, but I just can't be bothered. I'm bad at modern things! Technology hates me! (Seriously. Once, a lightbulb exploded as I walked by a lamp. How does that happen?!)
Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: Oscar Wilde -- he was a man out of time, or rather, his time didn't deserve him. He's everything I aspire to be -- eloquent, creative, witty, charming, and an overall inspiration.

Three negative traits: Stubborn (like whoa), I will remember the shit you pulled forever and ever (even if I don't act differently and move on, no way I'm forgetting), and jealous
Favorite historical period and why?: Ancient Egypt - visiting it was a bloody mindblowing experience (not to mention really fun) and I just think it's a really interesting time where we don't know nearly enough about people; on the flip side, I really enjoy reading about the Holocaust, how it came to be and what happened and the way things changed because of it
How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: Nothing really; I don't know much about her.

Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: I don't have heroes or idols or anything like that, I've never found it particularly useful to have these pedestals holding people up. If I had to give one though, hm, probably my old maid - she raised me for 16 years, and she was really brave living in the circumstances she did.

Three positive traits: My enthusiasm - people have asked me what I have 'taken' before and I always have to respond with 'just me' because I can be really enthusiastic even about the most mundane of things. My sense of humour - if I can't laugh about things, even after they've happened, then there's just no joy in my life. My imagination - I write stories almost every day and have the most vivid dreams each night. It's my best asset, I think.
Three negative traits: My self-esteem - I was pretty badly bullied growing up and things have happened in my adult years that make me get all blah about myself and the way I am. My jealousy - this isn't typical jealousy, like, over lovers (you need to have one of those to get jealous) but of people's talent. I know that I shouldn't get jealous. Logically, I understand that completely but my mind (I am my own worst enemy) is all 'see, that person can do blah better than you'. Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: Chris Colfer. He's already accomplished so much at such a young age and he doesn't just think about himself. He is constantly doing things for other people, making the world a better place (in my opinion) and he's like the gift that keeps on giving. I admire him and everything he chooses to be.

Three positive traits: 1. I'm curious. I've been known to lose myself to hours of googling. I'll start with one thing and it just snowballs until I look up and realize literally hours have gone by. 2. I'm a good mediator. It's relatively easy for me to understand all sides of an argument. I can be objective about someone's opinion, even if I don't agree. I'm a problem-solver. 3. I'm stubborn. If I start something, I will get it done, come hell or high water .

Three negative traits: 1. I'm stubborn. Yes, I'm putting this in positives and negatives. I tend to latch on to some things like a dog with a bone. I have a hard time letting things go even when I know that would be the best thing. 2. I'm closed-off. It's extremely difficult for me to open myself up to people and give them my trust. I've been burned by too many so-called "friends" in the past to be able to be open with people right away. 3. I'm really good at talking myself out of things. This generally means that even if I set goals for myself, I don't reach them...and then I rationalize why not reaching them was/is so much better for me than reaching them.

Favorite historical period and why?: World War II. There were a lot of big personalities clashing in a lot of ways. WWII shaped a lot of people and things and it continues to have influence today in government, in culture, in religion, etc.

How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: I think she gets more of a bad rap than she deserves. Do I think she was a saint? No. Do I think she was the horrible, vain, shallow person that history makes her out to be? Well...not quite. I do think she was sheltered and forced into a situation that she clearly wasn't prepared for; thus, she didn't know how to handle herself or those around her.

What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: Penicillin. Does this really need an explanation?

Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: Winston Churchill. The man was a badass, and did very well under a lot of pressure.

Three positive traits: ONE- I'm funny. Well to myself, at least. But no, a lot of people tell me I'm funny. TWO- I'm honest. THREE- I am able to count to three successfully.

Three negative traits: ONE- I'm impulsive. Which I've learned is more a negative trait than a positive trait. TWO- I live on a rainbow. Happiness, apparently, is gross and annoying to some people and being enthusiastic about life and looking at the positive side of things is something stupid people do because reality is harsh and BLAH BLAH BLAH. I don't know. I used to put up with some people being cranky pants but then I realized that some people don't wake up on the wrong side of the bed, they wake up with the wrong attitude ALL THE TIME and maybe don't even deserve to wake up at all ever and they can all kiss my Wisconsin dairy air. THREE- I'm bad a decision making. I can never make up my mind about anything, even something as simple as ordering from a menu. At restaurants, I send the waiter away like, four times before I order and even at home when I'm hungry and there is more than one option, I annoy whoever is around to choose for me because CHOICES. I just change my mind a lot and choosing forces me to accept that I can't change my mind all willy-nilly.

Favorite historical period and why?: I love the Victorian era for their architecture and men's fashion but if I had to choose an all time favourite era, it would be the time Impressionism was hot stuff. It was like, during the 1870s? I took Art History two years ago, bear with me here. But anyways, the Impressionist era gave way to Renoir, whose paintings fill me with happiness and I just want to lick his face. And there's Monet, a gorgeous man whose beard I will happily braid. And Claude Debussy, the genius who composed some of the most beautiful pieces of music in all of existence.

How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: I know who she is and all but I never had much interest in her so I don't know a ton about her. I used to think her famous quote "Let them eat cake" was a jovial expression or something like, 'Yay, life is beautiful, let's eat cake!' but then I found out it was in response to someone saying like, your people don't have bread to eat. And I really don't know what she was implying or how it's supposed to be interpreted but I took it as something really stupid and ignorant. Like, someone tells you your dudes are starving and your response is to let them eat cake? Yeah, okay. SO THEN. I find out that she probably didn't even say it. But like, if people readily believed that you said something dumb like that, then you must not be the brightest crayon in the box.

What's the most important invention of the 20th century?: Let me just Google '20th century inventions' real quick. CRAYONS. THINK OF LIFE WITHOUT ANY COLOUR, MAN. THINK OF LIFE WHERE LITTLE KIDS DON'T HAVE CREATIVE OUTLETS AND THEY GROW UP TO BE DULL ADULTS WHO EVENTUALLY BECOME DULL LEADERS. I dunno, man. I'm thinking George W Bush didn't get to play with any crayons when he was a lad.

Who is your biggest hero (besides your mother)?: My biggest hero is BOOKS. I don't care if that doesn't make any sense. Books have helped me get through a lot of rough patches in life. Even when people weren't around to be supportive, the library never failed to have a new friend I could use to escape at least for a little while. And it isn't even just that it allowed an escape. It also allowed me to enter someone else's mind frame for a while and left me with a new perspective and a new way to deal.

1) I'm easygoing. I'll go along with most anything and I'm pretty low-drama and easy to be around.
2) I'm creative. I love all of the arts. All of them. But especially music, creative writing, and drama. Also I have story ideas coming out of my ears and so many unfinished works sitting around on my computer it isn't even funny.
3) I've got a sense of humor. I don't make straight-up jokes, but I like to make people laugh and be a bit ridiculous at times.
Three negative traits:
1) I'm indecisive. Please don't make me make decisions or commit to things, or I will agonize over it and ask everyone for second opinions and take forever to consider the options.
2) I'm lazy. I'm kind of a couch potato and am not fond of unnecessary effort.
3) I'm lacking in confidence in myself and in general. I doubt myself a lot and I'm not super ~bold because I hesitate to put myself on center stage.
Favorite historical period and why?: The Victorian Era. So much. Just... the literature, the art (Impressionists!), the clothes, the culture, the whole general aesthetic. Sure everyone's a bit of a prude and probably a pervert, but IT'S ALL SO PRETTY. It's modern enough that the culture is still perfectly understandable, but far enough in the past to seem quaint. Also there's no Black Plague. Shout outs to my backup choices- the Middle Ages, the Golden Era of Piracy, the French Revolution, and Ancient Greece!
How do you feel about Marie Antoinette?: She's cool. Very much a product of her time and upbringing, but interesting to study.
