So you finally started learning about Tarot cards. You were instructed to memorize them as homework for a test tomorrow and (obviously) you didn't bother until the last minute. You sit with a friend taking it in turns to remember them all. It isn't until you see in her notes that she had annotated the Page Of Swords with "think of the Ravenclaws" that you come up with a strategy that makes learning them all so much easier...
Activity Arcana Stamping
Points Repetitive Activity: 2pts per comment, 30 max.
Deadline 27th November @ 11:59PM UTC
Details Fill out the short survey and find out which of the Major Tarot Arcana best represents you! 2pts per comment with a cap at 30pts!
This is a little like an activity that happened about 3 terms ago (according to my homework), but I'm going to put a slightly different spin on it. Here is a textbox:
Fill this out and submit it. Like all stampings, try to elaborate a little bit! Give folk something to latch on to!
Then the fun bit: you get to stamp each other (lolwhut i just typed 'spank') as one of the 22 Major Arcana. But because I don't expect you to know these automatically, and it's a lot of researching if you don't, I'm offering up these handy cheat sheets!
- 00) The Fool - Naïve and trusting. Takes gambles and risks, likes adventure. Artistic and carefree, lives for the moment.
01) The Magician - Power of charisma. Conscious creativity. Taking initative, a skilled mentor.
02) The High Priestess - The head ruling the heart. Spiritual, unconsciously creative. Quiet knowledge.
03) The Empress - Abundant and happy. Successful and affluent. Fertility- literal or metaphorical. Maternal.
04) The Emperor - Authoritative, strong and confident. Paternal and controlling. A natural leader.
05) The Heirophant - Educated, likes to develop the self. Committed and dedicated. Fairly conservative.
06) The Lovers - Social, full of passion and energy. Tries to please everyone. The heart ruling the head.
07) The Chariot - Confident and full of swagger. Focused and dedicated. Takes responsibility, motivation, energy.
08) Strength - Patient, composed, with a core of steel. Doesn't give up easily. Mental or emotional strength.
09) The Hermit - Introspected, and detached from distractions. Seeks wisdom and knowledge from within.
10) Wheel of Fortune - Often affected by external factors. Recipient of balanced fate. Plays the long game.
11) Justice - Logical, often cold cerebral realism. Impartial, objective and clever. Good at decision making.
12) Hanged Man - Self-sacrificing, puts others first. Passive and submissive. An inactive, 'hakuna matata' mindset.
13) Death - Self-improving, likes to keep moving. Doesn't let sentimentality obstruct progress. Open to new things.
14) Temperance - Lives a balanced life. Can integrate new things into life efficiently. Open to new things.
15) The Devil - Hedonistic, materialistic. Chained down by a lot of pressure. Can be closed to new experiences.
16) The Tower - Chaotic, capricious and heavy-handed. Expects the unexpected. Energetic but self-sabotaging.
17) The Star - Zen-like inner calm. Optimistic and joyful, generous and trusting. Likely to succeed in the long run.
18) The Moon - The worrier. Fears the unknown, prone to pessimism and anxiety. An excellent imagination.
19) The Sun - Optimistic and full of vitality. Enthusiastic, free-spirited and self-motivated. Bright and happy.
20) Judgment - Forgiving and introspective. Doesn't rush into things, rational, the head ruling the heart.
21) The World - Maturity. Starting life over. Fulfillment and self-actualisation. Well-connected. Lives for the moment.
These might not be exactly what the cards mean, but they're reasonable enough to be getting on with. EDIT! I've added a supplementary thread here in case any of you HiHers want to add your own interpretations of the above 22 options to the mix. They won't get you points, but extra opinions are welcomed and invited. Check the thread out, and contribute if you want to do so. :)
REMEMBER! There's no such thing as a "good" card or a "bad" card, per se: even the pleasant-sounding ones have bad traits attached to them, while the awful-sounding ones can carry wisdom and stuff, too. So don't be afraid of the ;)
If possible, try to give a little bit of reasoning as to why. But this isn't something I'm enforcing; it's just nice for the stampee to know why sometimes :)
One thing I will enforce, though: You must score at least 10 points to get item bonuses. That's just five comments. Fair's fair, right?
I'm not really a graphics kinda guy.... but if I'm feeling up to it I miiiight try to make sigtags for people reflecting their stamps. Possibly..

Date: 2011-11-08 11:52 pm (UTC)I like to spend my free time - on the internet :D but also reading, swimming, sewing, spending time with my cats, being alone, being with my family.
If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - i would have more money.
My ideal home would be - i actually like my house. one with a self-gardening garden would be nice.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - hmmm bigger? i am less naive, i'm less hopeful. I more often alone (grew up in a house of 6 with shared rooms). I have more knowledge. IDK.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - not eating that whole block of chocolate in one day. :D Also, i'm proud of my life, no matter how simple.
My opinion of kids is - eh. unless they are family, then they are perfect. I have an approved list of children, i don't like children overall.
I respond to the unexpected by - umm depends if its good or bad.
I respond to pressure by - staying calm mostly.
Two things that matter to me are - books, family/pets
If I had one superpower, it would be - ummm i would like to be able to fly. It would be helpful.

Date: 2011-11-08 11:54 pm (UTC)I like to spend my free time - Either with friends doing simple things or by myself. I know. So different, right? xD No but seriously. I can't spend too much time with others or I get overwhelmed, and I can't spend too much time with myself or I'm underwhelmed.
If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - Have more healthy food around to eat. I'm not a health nut by any standards, but the food available for me, is well, yeah.
My ideal home would be - Closer to school, most definitely. Surrounded by those I love. No definition of what's a breakfast, lunch, or dinner food. You can have scrambled eggs for lunch and pizza for breakfast.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - Aware of the bigger picture. Louder, yet more serious.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - How well I'm doing in school compared to last term.
My opinion of kids is - That their pure innocence is something that should be nourished, not taken away at an increasingly younger age.
I respond to the unexpected by - It depends upon what it is! I'd like to think that I try to work a way around it.
I respond to pressure by - Stressing. And anxiety. Muy anxiety.
Two things that matter to me are - Friends and music.
If I had one superpower, it would be - The ability to teleport. Seriously, I WOULD LOVE THIS SO MUCH YOU HAVE NO IDEA. I could visit all of my Gryffindors on the East Coast, see friends who live on the beach, less travel time to school, and be able to travel the world without having to worry about freakishly expensive plane tickets.

If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - I wouldn't change anything? It's kind of perfect right now. JINX :O
My ideal home would be - Definitely by the beach. Which beach I'm not sure, but I do live right on the water.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - Patient.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - I'm pretty sure I aced my Advertising test and I barely studied.
My opinion of kids is - I love them to Reese's Pieces and I can't wait to have my own. My kids will be awesome.
I respond to the unexpected by - Depends on what it is, I suppose.
I respond to pressure by - listening to music. If I pretend it's not there (even for a few minutes), I usually come out with a clear head and an action plan.
Two things that matter to me are - Family and Disney.
If I had one superpower, it would be - Super speed. And I'd never get messy hair.

If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - My social anxiety disorder, I'd just vanish it completely
My ideal home would be - Cute, traditional, cosy and warm, beautiful and pretty, with a lovely, homely feel
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - I'm obviously more anxious now than I was as a child because of my severe social anxiety disorder, but at the same time, I'm stronger than I was, because I have to fight everyday to live life as normally as possible
One thing I'm proud of right now is - How much I managed to accomplish when Sam was with me (talking to people, paying for things!)
My opinion of kids is - I love them to bits! I can't wait to have my own and I would absolutely love to work with them
I respond to the unexpected by - Panicking. I don't cope with the unexpected or change very well
I respond to pressure by - Panicking and then knuckling down and getting things done

If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - My various disorders and disabilities.
My ideal home would be - I don't really have one. Just cozy, I guess. I like places that feel lived in.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - optimistic.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - my ability to cope.
My opinion of kids is - I like them, but I don't want any of my own.
I respond to the unexpected by - It depends. If it's a small thing, I panic. If it's a big thing, I'm patient and calm.
I respond to pressure by - It depends on the kind of pressure.
Two things that matter to me are - My sister and my friends.

Date: 2011-11-09 12:05 am (UTC)I like to spend my free time - on the internet (livejournal) or hanging out with my friends.
If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - my lack of motivation. It's so hard for me to do anything these days.
My ideal home would be - a small, brightly lit house not too far from what I need (groceries, work, etc).
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - reserved. I put myself out there a lot as a child and had friends all over the place. Now I'm quieter and generally keep to myself.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - the fact that I'm still managing to deal with the stress of living and working in a foreign country.
My opinion of kids is - they're not for me. I don't have enough energy or patience to keep up with them.
I respond to the unexpected by - trying to logically think of the best way to deal with the situation.
I respond to pressure by - stressing out and trying to get things done that'll relieve the pressure.
Two things that matter to me are - my intellect and my nuclear family (parents and little brother)
If I had one superpower, it would be - Teleportation! It would make visiting my family and friends all over the world so much easier.

Date: 2011-11-09 12:18 am (UTC)I like to spend my free time - with animals, specifically my animals, watching tv or playing with them.
If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - I...actually enjoy everything in it right now. I wouldn't want to change anything.
My ideal home would be - huggeeee, and on a farm, so I can rescue poor babies [animals, not actual babies lol]
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - aware of how cruel the world actually is.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - that I actually graduated from school considering how little I went. ahah
My opinion of kids is - I love kids, don't get me wrong, but they can just annoy me to NO end. I'd prefer babies, once they start talking it's like BAI!
I respond to the unexpected by - just dealing with it. I hide my emotions a lot. I don't like hows to know how I'm feeling, not even family.
I respond to pressure by - ignore it. I don't do what others want me to do, I take one step at a time.
Two things that matter to me are - my cats. It's sad that they are the main thing in my life. I can't even say family because they like to talk crap about me just because I'm older now.
If I had one superpower, it would be - to fly. because really, how cool would that be? You can just be one with the birds, awwww!

If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - I would love to somehow get the funds or get to the age where I can live on my own. I really value my independence and I'm counting the days until I can get to college and live somewhere new.
My ideal home would be - Cozy, on the darker side of the color spectrum, and private.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - Laid back? I was a lot more giddy and hyperactive, but then again, most kids are
One thing I'm proud of right now is - If someone near me had a heart attack/choked/drowned, I would be capable of stabilizing them until the paramedics came.
My opinion of kids is - I feel like I am capable of handling small children well, but I don't enjoy doing it for long periods of time
I respond to the unexpected by - Taking a few moments to assess the situation before doing what I feel is best or what'll benefit me in the long run.
I respond to pressure by - I tend to shut down a bit when I get stressed out. I'll usually start running through all the possibilities of what could happen if something else happened (like, what would the end result be of me failing to read the entirety of a book assigned for English because the chapters seem to spawn when I’m not looking) and figure out how I could respond to a worst-case-scenario without losing anything. After that, I put some soothing music on and start compartmentalizing like it's no one's business.
Two things that matter to me are - My grades, as they are what are controlling my future; and my knowledge? I've recently come to the conclusion that I don't know nearly as much about the rest of the world as I'd like, so I've taken to spending as much time and possible reading newspapers and articles online and listening to NPR.
If I had one superpower, it would be - Learning through osmosis!

Date: 2011-11-09 12:27 am (UTC)I like to spend my free time - oh crikey. Internetting, chatting with friends; I used to go to the gym but that's not a viable option financially at the minute. Errr, job hunting doesn't count, right?
If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - I'd be wealthier. I feel really ineffectual right now and there's so many things I'd LOVE to do and experience but survival is priority now.
My ideal home would be - I wanted to say in a coastal town, but the wind and winter would bug me no end. So would excess heat. So somewhere balanced. The home would actually be a posh flat/apartment. Preferably on the first floor. Or right near the top if there's a cityscape view on offer.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - Un-naive, whatever the word is. I don't want to say cynical (even though I am), but I never used to question anything as a kid. Now I try not to take anything for granted.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - Recently graduating with my Masters? Actually, idgaf about that; I'm more proud that I've got an interview or two lined up, and that I'm getting back into doing my sign language.
My opinion of kids is - Fine, though I couldn't eat a whole one. I have no time for the feral beasts but I don't run a mile of my own accord. Heck, kids like me more than I like them, so whatever. :P
I respond to the unexpected by - Going into SUPER IMPORTANT EXECUTIVE ADULT BOSS MODE and just rattling through the unexpected stuff like a champ. Mr Responsible is me, when I have to be. But after going through a few years of unexpectedness (student life, eh?), I just started being all 'why am i doing this?' and started differentiating between offering help and being exploited unintentionally.
I respond to pressure by - Procrastinating like a champ, then going all surly and growling at people. I'll get it done but don't expect me to be particularly fun company until it's out of the way. (lmao, this survey makes me sound a right mardy git)
Two things that matter to me are - Helping other people out whenever possible, and not helping anyone else at all whenever possible. lmao, that sounds weird. I like to see other people happy, but I'd also want nothing more than to be chillaxed in my own zone.
If I had one superpower, it would be - Teleportation, because dude, I'd never be late for anything ever again... and who doesn't want that extra bit of free time to themselves?

If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - My job.
My ideal home would be - In Manhattan - a modern, studio style apartment.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - Mature, responsible and outgoing.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - Making the Academic Top 5% at my University!
My opinion of kids is - Mixed. If they're raised right (with manners, a sense of right and wrong, etc) I love them. If you let them get away with everything, we will not get along.
I respond to the unexpected by - Panicking!!
I respond to pressure by - Working harder, faster or better. I rarely feel the need to work hard unless I have a deadline.
Two things that matter to me are - My grades and my family. :)

If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - Nothing at the moment, I'm pretty content. :)
My ideal home would be - A big sprawling one in the country, with a huge yard, lots of trees, wood floors, open rooms, lots of windows and light. Preferably older, with a long gravel driveway.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - Thoughtful, but only just, haha!

I respond to the unexpected by - Laughing, usually. I might panic a little bit depending on the situation but I usually take things in stride.

Compared to my childhood, I am now more - of a weenie. No, to be honest, I'm pretty much the same (dreamy and irresponsible), only with less patience.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - My finance handling skills.
My opinion of kids is - They're great, so long as they've been taught manners. I love their imaginations and ability to accept things.
I respond to the unexpected by - Brainstorming quickly and striking a dramatic pose.
I respond to pressure by - Trying really hard or doing absolutely nothing, depending on where the pressure is coming from.

Date: 2011-11-09 12:41 am (UTC)I like to spend my free time - Relaxing at home watching movies or reading, or being out and about shopping and traveling!
If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - My current job--it's ending in about a month anyway, but I'm pretty anxious to get home already! I'm working abroad with kids and it's been exhausting and stressful at times.
My ideal home would be - Something cozy with many bedrooms and bathrooms that I can decorate. I'd also like a fireplace. A medium-sized house in a suburban area near a big city sounds good to me.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - Confident, definitely!
One thing I'm proud of right now is - The fact that I have stuck with my job for so long and didn't quit.
My opinion of kids is - They are tiring. I like kids when they're not being brats. But you have to take the good with the bad I guess. They're just learning after all. And not every child is the same, so I can't truly generalize my opinions of all kids, you know?
I respond to the unexpected by - Figuring out how best to deal with the new situation! I adapt to change well.
I respond to pressure by - Getting stressed out initially, then working through the pressure by communicating my feelings or working hard to meet expectations.
Two things that matter to me are - Family and meeting my goals.
If I had one superpower, it would be - Being fluent in all human languages!

I draw, I go to the cinema, I cycle, read some classics and drink ridiculous amounts of tea :) Visit my nieces and teach them how to draw, bother my brother and talk and talk and talk with my bff haha XD
If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - I would like to have the confidence that I in myself that I have now, ten years ago. It took me ages to have confidence in my own intellect and abilities and my education suffered a great deal because of it. I've never managed to overcome that bias for education and that still saddens me sometimes because I know I can do so much more.
My ideal home would be - In a small town, that's small enough for people to know each other and trust each other, and big enough to have it's own train/bus station and preferably a uni or something. I'd like a cosy kinda small home somewhere close to the centre of town. I don't really care for a garden since I'm not fond of gardening haha :P
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - Balanced. I used to be rather emotional at times and I managed to overcome most of my issues to become a more emotionally balanced person. I used to be pretty demanding of others as well, I'm now a lot more independent instead.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - I graduated at a Uni abroad and got my BA degree in a single year. Without any support of my parents or anyone else. It's the one thing I did all by myself and it's something that I'll be proud of for the rest of my life :)
My opinion of kids is - they can be all little angels if well governed. I love my little baby & toddler cousins and I adore playing with them. Kids are rather fond of me as well, even kids that have just met me are easy to trust me and I find it easy to make em smile. However, some kids are just little horrors and I never blame the kids, they're just copy-cats, it's usually just careless parents that can't be bothered to discipline them.
I respond to the unexpected by - analyze what's the best course of action. In an emergency I consider whether I can help out or if my involvement would be a bother. When emotions are involved I try to rationalize them and don't take in account whether I am bothered by it. I find it important to behave like an civilized adult and respond in kind. Especially when people older then me behave like a bratty brat and are making a scene.
I respond to pressure by - analyzing where to begin to ease the burden. If I'm already working as hard as I can, I then make a list of what's most important and start on that asap. You can't tell by my demeanor whether I'm stressed or not (because I find it important to keep my calm about me) but you can tell because I'll be vaguely humming a song under my breath. I'm usually not aware of it either XD
Two things that matter to me are - perseverance and kindness. I don't care if you lie to me, do it because you care for me. Be as desperate and down as you can be, but be realistic enough that it's not the end and moving forward is the only answer. At all times I try very hard to be a kind person and to be kind towards myself. I find my own inner strength maybe not the most obvious one but the one that makes me want to live.
If I had one superpower, it would be - to move and control water XD I could fix hangovers in a jiffy and I could swim without moving a muscle XD Aaaah the possibilities are endless XD

Date: 2011-11-09 01:11 am (UTC)I like to spend my free time - Reading, writing, watching TV/movies, playing video games, and hanging out with my kitty!
If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - I'd want to get rid of my anxiety. I don't like being so scared.
My ideal home would be - In the country, without a lot of neighbors. The house would be old, with lots of library space, and a fireplace. Bonus points if it's near water.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - Hmmm...I think I might be more introverted now than I used to be. And hopefully smarter! XD
One thing I'm proud of right now is - My job. I love working in a museum!
My opinion of kids is - They're adorable and I hope to have some of my own someday!
I respond to the unexpected by - Trying to stay calm and figure out the best plan.
I respond to pressure by - Depends on the source of the issue. If it's something like a pressing deadline, I'll become really focused. If someone I love is hospitalized, I'll panic.
Two things that matter to me are - My friends and family.
If I had one superpower, it would be - I'd be telepathic so I could understand people's thoughts and be able to help them.

If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - I have no idea. I can't really pinpoint one think I would change. Maybe make it easier to see my friends who live seven hours away from me at the moment once in a while.
My ideal home would be - By a lake. Smallish, cosy. A ginormous DVD and book collection. Comfy.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - confident, outgoing, crazy, disorganized
One thing I'm proud of right now is -
My opinion of kids is - I love them. I work at a day camp and as much as they can occasionally be hard to deal with, I really enjoy it.
I respond to the unexpected by - Either going with my gut, enjoying it or panicking. I like to think that most of the time I go with my gut and just enjoy the unexpected, but it really depends on the situation, and a lot of the time I do panic a bit.
I respond to pressure by - Stressing out. Taking things chunk by chunk, not letting the stress make me more stressed. If that makes sense.
Two things that matter to me are - my friends and music. I can't live without either of them.
If I had one superpower, it would be - fly. It's the only one that's ever really appealed to me. Although... Gary's ability from Alphas (being able to see and interact with all signals) would be pretty damn cool too.

Date: 2011-11-09 01:56 am (UTC)I like to spend my free time - Uh, ON THE INTERNET? I play music, and I love to travel and see new places and take pictures of my experiences and share them with my family and friends. I also really love writing, and cooking, and eating, and doing lots of things that incite laughter.
If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - MONEY. I would like more of it so I could spend more time figuring out what I enjoy doing with my time.
My ideal home would be - Something really comfortable, full of soft places to sit and sprawl out on, and warm and sunny, surrounded by leaves or water or some form of nature. I don't really want to see my neighbors, I'd rather be a bit secluded. And I'd also like to have enough spare space to have visitors come stay with me.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - Restrained, haha. ISN'T THAT SURPRISING? I used to be way more out-there and uncontrollable and flaily and all up in erryone's business.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - Um. My ability to make plans? Or maybe my newfound ability to see what needs to change in my life for me to be happier and learning to take small small steps towards them.
My opinion of kids is - They can be cute? I don't really have much experience with them and they tend to terrify me. I think I'd like my own someday, because I'd probably be a decent mom.
I respond to the unexpected by - CAPSLOCKING. I don't know, it depends on what the unexpected is, haha. Typically, it's safe to assume that loud noises will be involved.
I respond to pressure by - Freaking out for a second and then buckling down and getting shit done.
Two things that matter to me are - Having fun and getting to know myself? Also pizza and corndogs.
If I had one superpower, it would be - That superpower from Meteor Man where he could flip through a book and absorb all its information in milliseconds! That would be super-handy.

Date: 2011-11-09 01:59 am (UTC)I like to spend my free time - Doing nothing. Which includes doing a surprising amount of things.
If I could change one thing in my life, it would be - I would make myself more active and productive. I'd become more of a doer.
My ideal home would be - Somewhere close to the water. I want a boat house. I also like the idea of my house being smallish and hidden away and a bit whimsical. I've always lived in pretty boring places my whole life so I'd want to live somewhere that was a complete change of scenery. Also if I could live in a place that functions like a house in the sims, where I could change whatever I wanted on a whim with minimal effort, that would be pretty rad.
Compared to my childhood, I am now more - Understanding. When I was younger I used to just believe things because I was told that that was what was right. Now I'm more aware of the world around me and I make sure that I understand what things mean before I follow them blindly.
One thing I'm proud of right now is - I'm proud of the fact that I'm becoming more interested in taking the steps I need to take in order to become a person who knows how to be proud of herself.
My opinion of kids is - That they shouldn't be underestimated. They can be just as smart or have just as much power as adults. But kids don't have as much of the weird conditioned fears as adults do, yet, so maybe in some ways kids are more powerful, because they believe they are.
I respond to the unexpected by - Well, I guess it depends on the situation. I think I usually let my mind take a few minutes to process it, and then I respond.
I respond to pressure by - Overreacting a little bit. But as long as I have someone to talk me down I am usually okay.
Two things that matter to me are - Being authentic and having fun.
If I had one superpower, it would be - Apparating/Disapparating. It's probably the one thing that wizards and witches can do that I'm most jealous of. Especially since most of my closest friends live thousands of miles away. The ability to just be there for people when they need me, or just when I want to hang out with them, would be incredible.
