1.What is the difference between a brew and a concoction?
A brew is a liquid mixture made by steeping, soaking, or boiling solid ingredients in water.
A concoction is, simply, a mixture of ingredients.
2.How did Snape inadvertantly save Ron's life?
Snape (as The Half-Blood Prince) wrote in his potions book over a list of antedotes: "Just shove a bezoar down their throats". Harry remembered this when Ron was poisoned in book 6.
Snape also taught about bezoars in Harry's first potions class, so if you answered that way, I counted it.
3.What did Dumbledore see upon drinking Voldemort's potion? What did Kreacher see?
This was the trick question. Here's the correct answer:
-It is unknown what Dumbledore saw, as he doesn't tell anyone before he dies.
-Kreacher only says that he saw "terrible things".
*In Book 7 Harry and Hermione speculate that Dumbledore must have yelled "Kill me!" because he was seeing Arianna's death at the hand of Grindelwald. I did decide to accept this answer, because it's a really vague distinction and I'm super nice.
4.Which ingredients in the Polyjuice potion are not available in the muggle world?
Bicorn Horn
5.Name another Hogwarts Potions Professor besides Horace Slughorn and Severus Snape.
Vindictus Viridian
6.There are three known required textbooks for Potions classes at Hogwarts. Name the books, their authors, and the significance of the authors' names.
I'm going to plagiarize one of the correct answers:
1)Advanced Potion-Making by Libatius Borage - Libatius is derived from libation, meaning a ritual offerof drink to the gods. And Borage is an edible herb believed to bestow excitement and courage in the hearts of those who drink it.
2) Magical Draughts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger - Arsenius is arsenic, a group of several very poisonous metallic elements. A jigger is a liquid measurement of 1.5 ounches.
3) One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi by Phyllida Spore - Phyll means leaf and a spore is a single-celled reproductive organism that is resistant to drying out and heat. Mushrooms reproduce via spores.
7.Muggle Fairy tales are often wizarding history in disguise. Name a wizarding hag who's biography was the inspiration for a muggle fairy tale, which potions she is known to have used, and the significance of her name.
Two possible answers here-
Maladora Grymm- From Snow White. Took a Beautification Potion. Grymm is a reference to The Brothers Grimm
Leticia Somnolens- From Sleeping Beauty: took Draught of Living Death. Somnolens is from "somnolence" which means "sleepy"
8.Match the potion to it's ideal color:
1.Boil Curing Potion- red
2.Elixr to Induce Euphoria - sunshine yellow
3.Shrinking Solution -acid green
4.Wiggenweld Potion- purple
9.Name two ways one can reduce the effectiveness of veritaserum.
-Through Occlumency
-By taking and antidote
What does Amortenita smell like to Harry? Hermione? What does it smell like for you?
Harry:treacle tart, a broomstick, and "something flowery that he thought he might have smelled at the Burrow"
Hermione:fresh cut grass, new parchment, and toothpaste
By the way, I had a blast reading everyone's own favorite smells!
