I'd say Mad-Eye Moody would be a Venus Fly Trap. He sneaks up on unsuspecting victims (like when he turned Draco into a ferret), just like a fly-trap catches insects off guard. He is also very quick to react and is near impossible to escape once caught. The Venus fly trap snaps at its victims before they have a chance to react and once they are caught, there is no chance to get away. Mad-Eye relies on his senses, such as his eye to spot things, just as the venus-fly trap uses senses (when a fly knocks one it is engulfed).

This really fits. I wouldn't have thought about it on my own, but I definitely agree. Mad-Eye Moody is definitely a Venus Fly Trap.

I like that you chose the Venus Fly Trap rather than its sort-of-similar pitcher plant! The Venus Fly Trap is more... aggressive, compared to the more passive pitcher plant, whereby the insect just slowly decays in the plant.

Also, the Venus Fly Trap definitely seems like the odd-one-out when it comes to plants as it's carnivorous, and to me, Mad-Eyed Moody has always been somewhat of an eccentric character.

This is very interesting, and I think it's something I wouldn't have thought of. Your argument has convinced me, however. Your examples of how he sneaks up on unsuspecting victims and catches them off guard is strong because you use an example from the book. He is also dangerous like a Venus Fly Trap, because once one gets ahold of you, you're pretty much done for.

So. I learned that fly traps also have a, um, smell? Pheremone? whatever. That actually attracts flies as well, and it certainly seems that Moody being Moody manages to attract Dark Wizards. This is also great because there are other plants that lure in their prey, so it reinforces that he wasn't the only Auror... just perhaps the coolest one.
