I think this is the perfect plant for Bellatrix. Not only does is compliment her name, but also the poisonous/innocuous/harmful effects belladonna has one people is just like Bellatrix.

This really fits. I loved your description of Bellatrix... mad as a hatter. That is exactly right. She's most definitely unpredictable. EXCELLENT CHOICE!

This describes Bellatrix to a T! She's obviously... mentally unstable and unpredictable from her years in Azkaban.

One look/the sound of their name immediately causes people to step back.

This is the PERFECT flower for Bellatrix. Your description of her, plus the description of the flower, is absolutely fantastic. I can't think of a better choice!

I want to add that Belladonna in Italian means "beautiful woman". When paired with the fact that she's also dangerous and wicked makes it a deadly combination for men (and woman alike). Thus, I think Belladonna really suits her!

It's also great because Belladonna breaks down into the phrase "beautiful woman"- I wouldn't say Bellatrix is necessarily the most beautiful woman in the books, but her beauty is of a rather dangerous sort.

It's genus name is also fitting: "Atropa" is derived from Atropos, the greek fate who cut the strings of life. Bellatrix clearly snipped short lives in the books.

I like your argument here because I also picked a plant for Bellatrix that induces delirium and hallucinations, which just seems perfect for someone like Bellatrix. The fact that women used to use it to make themselves look more beautiful is fitting for Bellatrix, too, because a lot of women used it to beautify themselves and ended up having the harmful effects of it.

deadly but its exact effects are unpredictable

That is a wonderful connection. Her mind is so scattered and dark that the unpredictable mentality fits so well.

Holy crap, batman. That is perfect on so many levels - but mostly because they are both BELLA. I think it's great that this plant has clear purposes but also those crazy side effects that make you wary. Great fit.
