Both the wood and core of this wand are particularly suited for protection spells, making it helpful in defending during a duel. While not necessarily seen as the first choice for offensive magic, the strong magic of the unicorn tail, should still ensure that anything offensive is strong enough for me to be able to hold my own. I am not an aggressive person, so having a wand that would serve to help me more in defending and protecting seems like the right choice. I would see myself focusing more on protecting and defending in a duel, and in a larger battle trying to look out for everyone else on my side of the fight. Outnumbered, I probably would be able to hold on for a short bit but would likely not win - but one-on-one, I'd be able to defend long enough to find my window to knock my opponent back and win.
