Though I agree that there was a point about desentization in the story and the fact that people can do these things without feeling horrible. That they're so programmed to think that this is for the good of the whole rather than just the one. I do think there is an attack on the way some traditions don't seem very reliable. But I do agree that it wouldn't have been as easy to say, "This is wrong" to get them to stop. They're so brain-washed in to thinking that if they don't do this every year they won't have enough to eat. It was about the fact that they feared for themselves so the murder wasn't the main thing on their mind.
