So, it seems like every other HiH contest revolves around the theme of house pride--you know, "make an icon that shows house pride," "Make a signature for your house," "Blah, blah, blah."

This is not that contest.

You are to make an icon or three that promotes any house (or houses) but yours. I mean good, quality promotion in whatever way you see fit. Break the mold. Show unity, show harmony, show some thigh.

Here's the fun bit.

For every three icons you make that put other houses first, you get to make one that plays on the old stereotypes. Remember, this is dessert, not the main course, so don't stiff me on the Sunshine Dust icons just so you can bash the other houses. Keep it clean and non-personal, of course--try to come up with fresh new ways of saying you're the best by default. Have fun, and make it fun for other people by being as clever and creative as you can.

This is a contest. You receive points for entering, and points for third, second and first place. There will be one first-place winner for Ye Olde Icon d'Snark. I will be the judge, and comments are screened, so leave entries in a comment to this post. You must sign your name and house to receive points. Please only enter once--that means you may submit three Happy-Go-Lucky icons and one I'm-Better-Than-You icon. I would like you to differentiate between the YayHouseUnity icons and the SugarYou'reGoingDown icon, just so there's no confusion. Also, please note in your entry whether it will be all right for me to unscreen the entries at the conclusion of the contest, when all ballots are in, etc. I do want us to eventually be able to see them all--after all, that's the point of this little organization. The due date is two weeks from today, May 1st.

Well, I like to think that people will discuss them in comments as they are submitted. What did you have in mind?

I was thinking like something where you post all the icons, and we have a discussion about them. But it's no big deal :)

After this contest is filled, we will do that very thing--it will be more appropriate with a contest than a mere project, because, in the contest setting, everyone can't see the icons other people make.

Or that's how it would be, if I could figure out why comments aren't screening...

Because it's no longer the default, you need to select the screen comments when you post :)

Just a heads up for future contests, please submot all idea for contests to me first. I like the idea and you're free to go ahead with it. Just only award the 50 points for first, 40 for second, 30 for 3rd and 10 to anyone who wasn't first second or third. Have people only submit once. I don't want you to go overboard with points.

Yes, you are correct. The first three icons somehow smarm about how fabu the other three houses are, while a fourth icon chooses one of those houses to mock, deride, finger-point, etc., and you are welcome to use the old stereotypes to accomplish this.
