All right. This project is concerned with seeing.
We all see ourselves differently. When I look in the mirror, I know that I am looking at a different image--a different face--than my mother sees, or my best friend, or my dog. Is the fault in my vision, or in theirs? Who sees the real me?
This project focuses almost entirely on that difference--what you see as opposed to what the world sees. Behind a cut, I would like you to place two images that show that difference. Both pictures will be done by hand and scanned in--sorry, no computer graphics this time! You may include a short caption if you like. I will give you an example, but you are by no means limited to the media or the idea that I used. Feel free to paint, to chalk, to photograph a sculpture--use your imagination!
You would see a young woman, neither pretty nor ugly, with a plain but serviceable face.
Under particularly depressed circumstances, I would see a girl with a pale, sallow face, sickly coloring and a constant (If perhaps misleading) expression of discontent.
All right, guys. Take it and run. This is a first project and you may like it, you may not. There will be more, and I can guarantee they won't all be this heavy. I will be happy if everyone participates, but of course there is no obligation on your part. And remember, this is not a contest--it's not about talent. It's about seeing and expressing.
The deadline is two weeks from today, April 3. Please leave your work as a comment, not a new post--that keeps it all together. House points will be awarded to entrants.

Date: 2005-03-21 10:40 am (UTC)If you don't want to draw a person, don't draw a person--draw your cat, if you want to. Draw it all in purple squares and black polka dots. I know it's hard to look at yourself (or your cat) objectively, but I think it's well worth a try--you may be surprised at what you find.
But of course, if you don't feel the magic from this one, you can give it a miss.
