Hey guys, I'm medens_lupus, aka Jay. I'm the mod of this community as weall as the head of Charms Club. If you wish to join this club, simply respond to this post. We're going to be talking about the various charms in canon and whenever i feel like having a contest you can make you own charms depending on the contest. I'm not sure how i'll work out prizes yet, but maybe i'll just do a nifty lil banner. We'll also be discussing how the class is run in canon. Seeing as how we know verly little about our beloved class, a lot will be lucky guesses. Friday is the best day for me, so i'll try to make a post with an activity every friday, but it'll be loose.

Consider this your application. There's no limit on how many members, i'm just doing this to be all official-like.

Here's mine: Lumos veridis, the incantation to turn traffic lights green. The wand movement is a sharp jab at the offending traffic light and the mind should be filled with thoughts of what you will eb able to accomplish once you start moving again.

Charm: Accio Invenio... a twist on the Summons charm that works on lost objects. Just a general 'swish and flick' in the air will do as you say "accio invenio", making sure to concentrate on the lost item only. Provided it is within a reasonable proximity to you, the lost item will promptly return to you.

It is important to be thinking of the song or piece of music you wish to hear as you say this otherwise you will hear awful screeching or something quite different instead! To stop hearing the music tap the right ear twice again whilst saying 'Pax Confuto'

Commoneo to remember something you've forgotten that's right on the tip of your tongue. Especially useful during exams. The wand movement is a gentle tap on the side of your head. While doing this you should concentrate hard on exactly what it is you want to remember.

Charm: Tripudio pleura allows you to ascend a flight of stairs in a single bound. Very useful on a university campus built on a hill. With a flick of your wand at the top stair, which you are focusing your attention on, declare "tripudio pleura!" and the next step you take will land you on said stair. (Since you can't see the top stair several floors up, the limit of this charm is that you have to take each flight of stairs one at the time.)

Suggestion: Since the club will have members from all over the world with all kinds of different RL commitments, can you make it so that when there is a comp or a discussion it can be open for a few days - in my experience it has been nigh on impossible to get a time that suits everyone to 'meet up' on LJ.

The problem I chose is to help someone who is in need of something. This charm would give them something that would help them. For example, if someone was famised, they would get some food or drink, if they were ill, they would get something to make them feel better. The incantation id Aversio

My Charm: silentio parvulus is a charm use only if that brat of a little brother or sister is annoying the hell out of you OR for easy babysitting...just slowly swish the wand counter-clockwise around whomever’s mouth just once.
CAUTION: don’t try this charm unless knowing the reversal: sermo parvulus

If not reversed in 24 hrs the one who is charmed may become mute permanently.

Use this latin-english dictionary if you have to.( http://humanum.arts.cuhk.edu.hk/Lexis/Latin/ ) Right now it is summer where I spend my days, so I have come up with a nifty little cooling charm which works as a sort of.. invisible fan which aids perspiration as an aid of the body's own cooling mechanism. The charm is frigilius, which is derivative of the latin words frigus meaning cool, and ventilio which means ventilation, or fan.

Describe the wand movements and the incantation. As long as anything else that may be involved While placing this charm, one must use their wand and spin it twice in a clockwise direction. It can take some time to master the dexterity needed for this, but the charm's results are well worth it.

Charm: facies conficio || If you ever need to get ready to go somewhere in a hurry, this charm instantly does so, covering the basics: brushed teeth, washed, combed, and dried hair, washed face. If you want to apply make up as well, the incantation is facies conficio et fuco. The charm automatically applies the makeup that best fits the outfit you are wearing when it is performed.

It's great for sleeping in and getting ready in five minutes. (Oh, don't I wish.)

You must be in front of a mirror for the charm to be performed, as it the wand must be pointed at the witch or wizard to whom it is being applied for it to work. The mirror serves to reflect the spell and bounce it back to you. In any case, for the basic incantation (facies conficio) you must move the wand as if tracing an "S" in the air, then, from the endpoint of the "S," you have to connect the two ends of the letter with a diagonal slash as shown here: .

To add the makeup factor, you must say the longer incantation (facies conficio et fuco) and tap your forehead with the tip of your wand.

My spell: Commoneo librem omnium! The charm helps to remember the text of an entire book without needing to read it. You simply put the end of your wand onto your forehead and the tip of the wand onto the book you want to memorize, thus establishing a connection for the knowledge to flow into your mind.

Charm: Macero Sonitus, similar to the Silentio Parvulus charm, this charm will literally "reduce noise" around you, such as annoying roommates who have inane conversations with "outdoor voices" that keep the entire suite from rest. Not that I have personal experience with this situation or anything...;)

How to Perform: Wave wand in a loose clockwise spiral toward the offending noise maker while softly repeating the spell, continue sprial until the noise is reduced to a resonable volume. To reverse charm, make the spirals counterclockwise.

I'd like to do away with snow. The incantation is recedentia niveus and the wand movement begins with a fluid zigzag motion (so as to mimic the pattern of the falling offender) and a sharp flick westward to send the snow back where it belongs.

Charm: This is a simple but very useful clothing fastening spell. It can be used for tying ties, buttoning shirts, lacing corsets, tying shoes, and even zipping zippers.

My charm: Expergefacio exululo, which will turn any inanimate object into an alarm clock. The wand movement is two clockwise circles and then a tap on the object you wish to make into a clock. To set the clock, you simply need to tap the object once, say the time you wish to get up, and then tap it twice to activate the alarm.

The biggest advantage of this alarm clock is that there's no snooze button for you to hit too many times, thereby making yourself late to class. Not that I, uh, do that on a regular basis or anything... The alarm will go off, loudly, until the person actually wakes up enough to turn it off (by tapping it and saying quietus). Modifications to the charm can change the tone or sound used as the alarm.

that's the incantation, and when you or one of your fellow friends/classmates is showing signs of procrastination, you simply have to wave your wand in an X formation then point it at the person while saying the incatation. the person will immediately do what they should be doing. obviously, teachers and parents will tend to use it more often then the students themselves, but it's a risk.

My charm: I have a really hard time memorizing certain things, so I would make up a charm just to prevent that! My charm would be called Forgetto Ignatim. Tapping your forehead 2 times while saying this charm, will store all the much needed information back into your head.

Tomus idolus: (is it wrong that I can do this without a dictionary?) to make a one's ego very small. This charm makes even the most egotistical people (such as Gilderoy Lockhart) appear to be extremely humble and continually offer to do things for you, rather than expect you to do them, or expect you to grovel at their feet. Can also be used on customers in a retail setting. The wand movement is similar to that if you were lumping sugars into tea, very quickly.
