Hm, I don't really know if Muggles and Wizards could live openly and peacefully side by side - there's always going to be a conflict, and there will always be people who cannot accept Wizards/Muggles as their (equal) neighbours; now just look at the Pureblood supremacy in the Wizarding World - even if they were known to be wizards, they'd never accept Muggles to be as good as them and wouldn't want to live near to them, and ... well tehy certainl yare that Muggles are Muggles. So it'd aso be the other way round in some cases.
