Your Song: Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival Event: Gulf Wars Essay: Why does the song remind you of this event? "Some folks inherit star-spangled eyes; ooh they'll send you down to war. And when you ask 'em 'How much should we give,' they only answer 'more, more, more.'" This song is all about how the elite in this country use those with less privilege or connections. Not just the Gulf Wars, but they're more current than others. WWI would be a good one for Europe, considering the utter pointlessness of that war, and the futility of the fighting. The people fighting our wars for us are not "fortunate sons," and even though this song was written long ago it continues to apply because the rich continue to start pointless wars and send the poor to do the fighting. We try to tell the poor to be nationalistic and do their duty paying taxes, fighting, working hard, but the rich and privileged do nothing of the sort. Word Count: 146
