Classroom results week 1.
Sorry this is late; my dad wouldn't get off the computer, and while I'm visiting my parents it's the only one! :)
Remember this activity did not earn points.

What is the wand movement?
As the majority of you said, there isn't really one. The major wand movement really is pointing your wand in the direction of what you are trying to summon.
There needs to be a familiarity and connection with the object, and pointing your wand towards where it is (or where it should be) is also helpful. A general gesture is sufficient.
Does an object have to be close to summon it?
No it does not. You can summon an object from quite far away as long as you are a) familiar with it b) have some connection to it c) know where it is or might be and d) are casting a powerful enough charm.
Summoning from far away simply causes the object to take a longer time to reach you.
Do you absolutely have to know where an object is to summon it?
No, the general area is sufficient. You needn't be certain that an object is there at all, in this case might and maybe work very well.
Do you need to know what an object is to summon it?
Yes and no. You need a general, sort of water-color vague idea of what you are summoning. Many of you had great examples, and therefore I list them here.
"Mrs. Weasley being able to get the objects out of her son's pockets without knowing what they were, and again Hermione did not know exactly what sort of books on Horcuxes might be in Dumbledore's office when she called for them, but both times the spell works."
"In Goblet of Fire Harry pointed his wand at the Triwizard Cup and did not call out the object, he just called out Accio with his eyes and wand directly on the object and the cup soared to him."
"If you say just anything, like a text book or just a locket, a number of things could come at you if they are in the vicinity of the room."
Therefore, you must at least know what the object might be, and I put forward that as long as you, in your head and when focusing the spell, know what the object could or might be then the spell will work for you.
Optimal conditions of using Accio really are: familiar with the item you are summoning, being closer to the item rather than farther away, and knowing a general sense of where it is and what it is. This spell will work under other conditions, but these are, as I've said, optimal.
Look for the next week lesson on Monday! :) We will be going back to a once a week schedule as I haven't had my points-earning activity approved as of yet.
