I don't class myself as an awesome photographer by a long shot but I would like to express my opinion here! :)

I upload a lot of photographs to deviantART and I tend not to edit them that much. I don't really have a lot of knowledge of photoshop in the first place, but I don't think that a good photograph needs lot of editing. Cropping I think can be acceptable, and I tend to slightly enhance the colours but tweeking the levels and curves ever so slightly. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] rostelsuari, in that computer-editing doesn't make a bad photo good but can help enhance an image that is already good. I think that a lot of the emphasis should be on getting a good photograph to start with rather than taking a photograph, looking at it, thinking it's a bit crappy and then saying "oh well, I can photoshop it later." I would rather reshoot and make sure it's the best it can be!
