Might I suggest using a fruity flavour of schnapps in lieu of the cointreau? Personally I have quite a sweet tooth, so the sweetness of the schnapps would counter the bitterness of the tequila and lime, whereas cointreau is quite bitter itself and would simply add to it. Lemon or apricot schnapps might be the best choice to compliment this citrus drink!
