It's Voting Time, people! We've got six lovely and highly entertaining entries for our Essay Contest, and it'stime to cast your votes! Who should win? Well, we'll find out in the nifty little LJ-poll below! ^^

Reminder, though: No voting for your own entries! I'll find out for sure and I'll penalize you aptly... or I'll just make you change your vote. XD That is all. ^^

Entry One:
This sparrow is really none other than Ronald Weasley. He was having yet another "lover's quarrel" with Hermione, when all of a sudden she transfigured him into a bird and stormed off. Ron thought to himself about why he had just been turned into a bird, and at first it didn't make sense. He'd just been talking with Hermione about how he was going to ask Padma to the dance, since Hermione already had a date. Then, he realized that he'd said he needed a bird to take to the dance and how maybe he could ask Padma. No wonder she'd turned him into a sparrow! Harry had been watching from close by and after Hermione stormed off, he picked up little Ron and took him to McGonagall's office to have him transfigured back. Ron thanked both McGonagall and Harry and went off to apologize to Hermione.

Entry Two:
Hermione Granger was transfigured into a sparrow by Neville Longbottom! They were working on animal to animal transfiguration, and were supposed to be turning a rat into some sort of bird. The were working on this assignment in pairs, and Neville had teamed up with Hermione because she was always so helpful when they needed a helping hand. Neville aimed his wand at the rat, and was ready to attempt, with Hermione watching and helping him. Fortunately, the spell worked. Unfortunately, his spell went awry, and hit Hermione instead! AS a sparrow, HErmione chirpped loudly and fluttered around Neville and Professor McGonagalls head until NEville could pull himself together and tell Professor McGonagall. She wasnn't happy, of course, but she brought HErmione back to her human form immediately and deducted five points from Gryffindor for wrong use of spell.

Entry Three:
Another one of the famous rivalries between DRaco's team and HArry's team. Draco and Harry were flying spells back and forth when Draco delivered this wallop, and hit Ron instead of Harry! Ron was turned into a sparrow, and he helped the fight by pecking furiously at Crabbe and Goyle. Spelled continued to fly back and forth until Crabbe and Goyla finally ran away, with Draco tailing behind. For who is he without the hired guns? When Crabbe and Goyle were gone, Hermione detransfigured Ron immediately.

Entry Four:
"Ruddy mudbloods," Draco exclaimed to his cronies as they walked past a group of now-angry Gryffindors who were just leaving Transfiguration.

Neville stepped away from the crowd and stomped after Draco. "Malfoy! What's your issue?"

Draco came to a halt. "My issue, Longbottom? At least my parents can respond if I owl them," Draco hissed.

Although Neville turned a bright shade of red, he wasn't deterred. "That's true, but how long before the Dementors stop your owls?" he screeched.

Draco turned, wand at the ready. "Oh, you filthy prat. You give a bad name to purebloods."

Neville grinned and whispered, "No, I think you do." He raised his voice and said, "I learned from some of my Muggle-born friends that God's eye is on the sparrow, whatever that means. Let's let him get a good look at you!" He raised his wand to Draco and muttered a few words under his breath.

Draco immediately turned into a sparrow! A crowd of amused Gryffindors ran to Neville. All were concerned about his getting in trouble for transfiguring a fellow student.

"Oh," Neville replied, "don't worry. It'll wear off in about an hour. Just something Professor Moody taught me."

A flighty Draco tried desperately to grasp his wand with his tiny talons as the onlookers laughed. After a few minutes of trying, he left. For the next hour, his only accomplishment was in aiding Professor Trelawney to declare that some poor first-year would die a horrible death due to the omen of the sparrow.

When he finally became his human form, he walked back to retrieve his wand. Oddly, he felt a new respect for Longbottom.

Entry Five:
The unfortunate sparrow was none other than Gideon Prewett, Gryffindor seventh year and Quidditch Chaser extraordinaire. The transfiguration was not done to him by any angry Slytherin looking for revenge or a curious Ravenclaw wanting to know what would happen. No, poor Gideon was unwittingly transfigured into a sparrow by his own brother, Fabian Prewett. The two brothers were in the midst of pulling a prank on the Gryffindor girls. As they could not climb up the stairs to the girls’ dormitory, Gideon and Fabian were forced to climb out their own window and edge their way around the tower. One might ask why they did not simply just use their brooms. Alas, they had had them confiscated momentarily by Professor McGonagall after their appalling use of brooms to show off tricks to First Years in the middle of study hall.

The boys were working on a schedule and decided to risk it anyways. Clearly something went wrong. Gideon slipped on a particularly smooth stone in the side of the tower, forcing him into a understandably terrifying fall. In his panic, the first spell to come to Fabian’s mind was a transfiguration spell to transform a mouse into a bird. Despite the difference in species, the spell worked regardless and Gideon was able to fly away. However, the discrepancies in species made Fabian reluctant to attempt switching Gideon back until he had done the appropriate amount of research.

Gideon, in his frustration, decided to abandon his brother to the books in the library and fly around Hogwarts. This, of course, is when things went from bad to worse. When Gideon landed on the branch of a tree just next to the lake, a small Third year girl decided that she wanted Gideon for a pet. Despite his best efforts, the girl’s determined lunge saw his tiny Sparrow body firmly ensconced within her firm grip. Luckily, as the girl began walking back to the castle, she tripped over a rock strewn across the path. Gideon manipulated the situation to make his grand escape from her grasp. It was at this point which Gideon came across two fellow Gryffindors, James Potter and Sirius Black, who were both fourth years. James was idly practicing transfiguration spells in preparation for his Animagus research, although Gideon didn’t know this. A spare spell hit Gideon, transforming him once again into a human, hereby sending him spiraling into the wall opposite where James and Sirius were sitting. He may have ended up with a rather unbecoming bruise on his head, but at least he was human again.

Entry Six:
This hapless little sparrow is in fact Alicia Spinnet, Chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. She was transfigured by non other than fellow Chaser, Katie Bell. Let us explore exactly what transpired between the two girls to bring about such a peculiar result.

It all began after Katie was hospitalised following her contact with the cursed opal necklace in her final year. She recovered and was able to return to the team, but was disheartened to learn that Alicia Spinnet's flying had been less than satisfactory during her absence. Truthfully, Alicia had been quite moody. She always worked well together with Katie and was feeling unmotivated by her absence. Alicia had been complaining about everything from the weather to her belief that the team would not succeed without Katie. Katie, angered by the fact that Alicia was complaining about how difficult things were for her, decided to teach her a lesson. Following an argument, Katie took her wand and transfigured Alicia into a sparrow and promptly told her to practice her flying, exclaiming "it can't be much harder for you to fly as a bird! Or maybe it is. Try flying as a sparrow in this weather and maybe you'll realise that things aren't so hard for you after all!" Of course, Alicia was mortified and left in her anger. She found that it was even harder to fly through the sky in the harsh weather. After trying to fly out of Gryffindor tower, Alicia resigned to the fact that Katie had taught her a good lesson - that if she can fly in the harsh wind and rain as a tiny sparrow, she certainly had what it took to fly properly on her broom again. She flew back to Katie and apologised. Unfortunately, Katie had always had trouble with untransfiguring people and only managed to get half the job done, hence Alicia was left with the lower body of a human but the upper body of a giant sparrow. Panicking now, Katie took Alicia to Professor McGonagall, who after reprimanding the girls on their foolishness, untransfigured Alicia fully.

Katie and Alicia both made a full recovery and thanks to their dynamic effort, Gryffindor were able to claim the Quidditch Cup again.
