Two years ago about this time I was driving back and forth a lot long distance and I made a point to rent every Poe book-on-tape I could find. This story was one of the very first I ever read and remains one of my favorites. I still sometimes randomly shout out "It is the beating of his hideous heart!" I usually recieve rather strange looks from those who have never read this.
As a psychology student, all of Poe's stories interest me as they usual deal with some sort of psychological disorder which makes the characters so interesting and diverse. Don Henley said it best, "we love dirty laundry."
