Hey everyone, and welcome to The Restricted Section: A Literature Club!
Please note that you MUST be a sorted member of
hogwartsishome to join!
Under the cut you'll find more information about what I'm thinking for ideas/events, and ways you can join and get involved!
Okay! So, to join, I'd like you to fill this out and reply in a comment:
Name/Username (Whichever you prefer, or both!):
House:
What is your favourite book (apart from Harry Potter), and why?:
What are you hoping to get out of the Restricted Section?:
Please note that you're automatically part of the club, but it may take a few days for me to get your name up on the Members list! To catch up on all our posts so far, you can check the memories of
hh_clubs HERE.
As for me, you can call me either
intotheheart or Laura. I'm from Gryffindor House :) Right now, my favourite book is The Three Musketeers -- I'm a sucker for adventure. But I also love the Princess Bride, and Nick Hornby novels. I'm an English medial (meaning I'm sort of double-majoring in English and History) at Queen's University, this year I'm taking Romantics and 18th Century Literature.
I'm hoping to start off the club with these types of activities:
1. A Book Club! Once a month, people are assigned two books -- one, a fairly new release, and the other, a classic. At the end of the month there'll be an official Restricted Section post for everyone to discuss what they enjoyed or didn't enjoy, characters they liked the best, etc. I'm not interested right now in extending the Book club meeting to meetings DURING the book, unless there's lots of demand. I know I have enough deadlines as it is :) It's also NOT necessary to join the Book Club to be a member of the Restricted Section.
2. Themes! I'm thinking each month should have a theme (for example, expect July, for obvious reasons, to be a kind of fantasy-themed month). The books for the book club will probably go along with this, and there'll be an official post about the theme for everyone to respond to with their thoughts about that genre, or whatever the theme may be.
3. Our Own Community?I'm trying to decide whether to stick here at
hh_clubs or create our own community. I'd like to encourage ANY non-official posts or discussions about literature, and in this framework it might be a little invasive to the other clubs, so I'm going to make sure to ask Bunny about our options.
UPDATE I've talked with Bunny about our own Community, and she suggests keeping it here for now. I'll make sure to post general posts so people can have discussions in the comments. If we find we're overtaking the community because of our AWESOME enthusiasm, then I may bring it up to her again.
If anyone has any books they're DYING to read for the book club, (or even if you just think you might be interested), drop me a line at intotheheartofachild[at]gmail[dot]com, I'm totally open to your opinions. As soon as the community really gets going, I may add in a few more things I've been considering, but I think this is a pretty good start.
Don't forget to fill out the application :) I'm very excited about this club and I hope you are too!
