Divination Club: Term XXIV, Activity 1: Minority Reports - SOCIAL POST!

Activity Name: Minority Reports
Deadline: Friday, 28th September @ 11:59PM UTC
Points: 1st/2nd/3rd/Participation Only: 50/40/30/10 points.
Details: This game will combine the two divinationy skills of predicting trends and influencing social conventions. Forsee the outcome of 10 threads on what you believe will be the LEAST favoured outcome each time.
10 pts for taking part in all ten threads, with placement for the folk with the greatest accuracy.

SOCIAL POST
(sorta)

This post is to tie in with the activity post posted to [livejournal.com profile] hh_clubs HERE

In order to place on that activity, you must post here twice.
Collaborate, coerce, chatter, scheme or confess. I don't mind how you play it.

I'm going to leave you with 10 labelled threads, corresponding to the 10 questions. You don't have to use them all, but it'll be an opportunity for you to organise your thoughts along the way.

Remember, you are free to change your mind at any point, and you don't have to answer honestly. You just need to pick the least popular choice.

Also remember that if there is no lone option that is least popular (ie a tie for this), that question is null and void. You'll get house points, but it won't get you any nearer to placing.

So yeah. That's that. If I think of anything to say, I will.

The future will look bleak if you forget to sign the ROSTER!

Just wanted to say you are an evil genius! I love this activity; I'm already running in circles over the questions!

I wonder... what exactly is 'fluent'? I would barely say I'm fluent in English - yet many people might list themselves as 'fluent' with B2 or even B1 proficiency...

[identity profile] queer-theory.livejournal.com 2012-09-20 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with William that this really depends on how individuals define fluency. I know enough American Sign Language to manage a conversation, but I wouldn't call myself fluent in it, but I think other people might.

I feel like there are a fair amount of international HIH-ers that speak English and an additional language so I'm torn on this....maybe I'm overestimating their numbers! I would consider myself fluent in English and Spanish though.

The thing is, a lot of hih members will be because English isn't their first language yet their skills need to be good enough to function within the community. If you can function in this comm, you could probably function any where with day to day conversation, so it depends on what you view as fluent~ Then of course, there is the fact that nearly everyone these days learns a second language at school, so you have to predict how many carry it on to a level where they are fluent in them. I would say I am fluent in French from taking it to university yet, I wouldn't say the same for German even though I took that to university too :P Languages are very tricky XD

This is a difficult one because, at the moment, everyone I've heard has stated that, without a doubt, their candidate will win the election, so it depends on the political leanings of our participants.

LOADED QUESTION I AM AFRAID OF ANGRY PEOPLE ATTACKS AND THINGS WHEN POLITICS COMES INTO PLAY. I would agree with William's comment about people's general opinions in our community based on statistics of who the members are but then again I know my own stances are pretty not the norm compared to my peers.

[identity profile] pretty-panther.livejournal.com 2012-09-20 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
The problem with this is, many will comment with their hearts and not their heads.

I think the result of this question will likely be Democrats, if anyone is voting based on the polling data for the election.

I predict that the revolution will come before we end up in either of these scenarios.

This was difficult for me because one: i'm not an american citizen and two: idgaf about politics. well, no, i do, just not enough to know the difference, currently. i know, bad me.

Considering that there are generally more right-handed people than left, I'm guessing that's the way things will go. That said - I'm ambidextrous.

The thing about true/false questions is that it's easier to write a true question than a false one ;)
