Divination Club: Term XXIII, Activity 4: Hall of Prophecy - RESULTS!

Activity: Hall of Prophecy
Points: 1st/2nd/3rd/Participation - 50/40/30/10 points.
Scenario: A race through the Hall of Prophecy! Find the 10 scavenger hunt clues among the Divinationy clutter, and submit it as fast as you can... but be warned, there's a secret twist at the end! Optional participation only hunt is available for 10 points only.

The results are in for this Scavenger Hunt!

I wanted to set you all something that was a little more challenging and lateral than the norm (we've had a lot of very simple activities in Divination this term.... you didn't think you'd get off completely free did you?)

A lot of people who were doing the time trial came unstuck by the deliciously assholey twist at the end. The final twist stated that the results must NOT be submitted to divinationclub101 @gmail.com, but rather a different account- and the surprise challenge was thrown down to find out what it was.

Clue #10 on the time trial reads: Initially you've read the clues // that count toward this address new. // Add that on, and then click Send.

If you had pursued the time trial correctly, all 10 of your answers revealed a hidden message. The first letter of all 10 clues spelt out a number: NINTY EIGHT.. The instruction was to add this on to the address, or to put it another way, to take divinationclub101 and add 98 to it. In every literal sense of the phrase, this is an addition problem.

101 + 98 = 199, so the correct solution was divinationclub199@gmail.com and sending your answers there stopped the clock.

The majority of time trial participants completed this mini-adventure, though I think most of them didn't get it right on the first go.

Also, many people didn't get all 10 clues, regardless of whether it was time trial or participation only (I believe many were prioritising the Amazing Race). So however you did, you're in good company. So, shall we face the moment of truth?

First place goes to [livejournal.com profile] mmailliw of Slytherin with a time of 39 minutes!
Second place goes to [livejournal.com profile] c_hrista of Slytherin with a time of 59 minutes!
Third place goes to [livejournal.com profile] ansera of Slytherin with a time of 66 minutes! (though it appears you didn't receive an automated verification for some weird reason)

It's a Slytherin 1-2-3! An extra mention will go to [livejournal.com profile] schizophrenic0 of Ravenclaw who was just squeezed out of 3rd place.

Emphatic win to the snakes! That's the last Divination activity of the term! I hope you enjoyed the challenge!

HELL YEAH. I was doing this activity and my dad was like CHRISTA COME ON TIME FOR DINNER and I was like FUCK YOU DAD (okay I didn't really say that) ROB IS BEING A JERK I CAN'T EAT YET.

And then he tried to help me with the e-mail and failed miserably.

YAY FOR PLACING!!!

did you like my list of all the email guesses that simply DID NOT WORK?

[identity profile] ansera.livejournal.com 2012-08-24 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU DID THAT TOO?

BUT YOU OWNED THIS BTW. OWNED IT.

Hey Rob. People didn't need to be on the roster if they did the race, so bluemermaid and karnerblue should both get their points. FYI.

So close! It took me a while to figure out just to add the numbers together instead of replacing 101 with 98. Oh, well, yay for fourth!

Dang, I should have submitted for partial participation on this. I got up to clue 5 or something and couldn't figure it out so I just gave up. Very ingenious activity though!!
