DIVINATION CLUB: Term XXI, Activity 8: Time Capsule

Shortly after a long, deep session with Firenze, you find yourself considering the depths of time and eternity in an alarming way. Looking around, you see your friends also in a similar mindset, surprised by its gravity compared to the usual shallow experience within Divination. Heading to lunch, you decide to mark this point in time so the unknown future will have some way of knowing what life was truly like back here, this instant.
Activity: Time Capsule
Points: Participation Only - 10pts
Deadline: 29th December @ 11:59PM UTC.
Details: 2011 is drawing to a close! To look to the future, submit something an object that will commemorate the year gone by.
Here's a nice simple activity to see the year out. It's been a very long year for all of us; heck, I think it's been almost twelve months. And a lot of things have happened in that past twelve months. On a world scale, on a personal scale, in the media, and at Hogwarts.
How are we going to remember all of this? I'll tell you how: we're going to bury a time capsule! =D
♥ Please submit an object you wish to bury. It can be a personal keepsake, something symbolic of an event, or something related to a memory you just want to treasure and be remembered.
♣ Please also provide a couple of sentences on why you're submitting this. Just so I know you're not just clearing out your bedroom into my specially-designated landfill. Just a mini show'n'tell. :P
♠ I'd like to put one restriction on it, though: the item must be able to fit inside a large time capsule. Of course this is subjective (time capsules can be this big, after all), but apply some reason: I'm sure you love your neighbour's pet pig, but it probably wouldn't fit in a capsule very well.
♦ Yeah, try not to let the image be TOO huge, please. Just cos y'know. This post can become very image heavy, which can suck bandwidth like something that sucks realllll hard. Feel free to talk to one another and share memories, though such commenting won't get any additional points.
Here's another box for you!
And that's it! Happy burying! Have some awesome holidays- no matter what you celebrate, even if it's just ritual gluttony- and I hope to see you again in the new year, some time before the world ends!

Why this will remind me of 2011: I first saw the show in Melbourne in 2008 & fell in love with it, but I thought I'd never get the chance to see it again...So you can imagine how excited I was to hear they were touring to my city this year! It was a totally different experience to the first time- the seats were only about 4 rows back so I was able to pick up on the more minor details; I knew all the songs & dialogue off by heart this time around; my favourite Glinda was the same actress, and I liked the new Elphaba even more than the original one ^_^

Why this will remind me of 2011: This photograph was taken at the Cafe Mozart in Vienna, Austria where I flew to alone to participate in a conference. I absolutely fell in love with the city and its culture, language, history, and art, and it made me want to live there one day. Best experience of 2011 by far (although there are a few more days in it left.)

Why this will remind me of 2011: This is the year I finally decided on my major! After three years, I've settled down on Psychology. I chose this textbook because this class, and my professor, convinced me that this is what I should be studying. I don't know yet where I want to go in this field, but I'm excited nonetheless.

Why this will remind me of 2011: I learned quite a lot as a camp counselor this summer. I learned about child development, maintaining authority, how to keep my head down, and how to go days without showering and not being completely disgusting. This name tag is a symbol of my summer and although I will never return to that job it's important to remember what I learned!

Why this will remind me of 2011: I've had the worst year EVER in 2010 (long story short: I ended up failing my old degree and had to quit university), so this new student ID from my new university represents a fresh start for me in 2011. I'm finally studying what I always, ALWAYS wanted to study and I am so completely happy here that I sometimes think I'm in a dream and need to be pinched. There are still some kinks that need to be sorted out, but so far coming here to try this uni thing once more has turned out to be an epic decision. So 2011 was the year of a fresh start for me and my student ID represents that =)

Why this will remind me of 2011: That actually is easy, after two miserably failed attempts at university I started an apprenticeship as chem assistant this year, finally I found something I'm actually really good at and that makes me really happy. the stand symbolises this new start for me!

Why this will remind me of 2011: 2011 was the year I cut my hair really short for the first time. To me, it was a symbolical action - I finally accepted who I was and decided to show it to everyone. In a way, cutting off my hair was also a goodbye to my childhood and all the drama connected with it. (I actually saved the hair but can't find it now to take a picture, so picture of me with long hair has to do).

Why this will remind me of 2011: My graduation was one of the most important moments of the year because it meant I finally got to say goodbye to 24 years as a student! This should have actually been a reminder of 2010 (or even 2009) when I was expecting to graduate... but after delays with research it is good to finally be done. After that I started my "real" career with teaching a course over the summer, working at the MSRI and now... getting ready to move to Helsinki!

Why this will remind me of 2011: A few days before my parents and brother were due to arrive to visit me in Japan, I decided that we were going to go to DisneySea together, as I was tired of being the only person I knew never to have visited a Disney theme park. Even though it was very hot and very crowded, I was so happy to finally get to go to Disney, which I had wanted to go to since I was really little, and to experience it with my family while I was showing them the country I am living in. This ticket will always remind me of my family's trip to visit me in Japan, which was a highlight of 2011 (especially since they had to reschedule their trip from spring break to summer after the quake happened).

Why this will remind me of 2011: The pen and paper is more of a symbol, since I used a laptop, but for me 2011 is the year of writing. Since entering the ~real world~ I have kind of gotten into a sort of rut (work 9-5, TV/internet after, hockey game here and there, etc) that I have been trying to shake. I've always enjoyed writing and though I have stopped being active in the Harry Potter fandom, I resolved to try and start writing again. I signed up for a couple of exchanges, and then did a big bang, and discovered

Why this will remind me of 2011: (Mods! I only expect points for 1 thing, but the two are tied intrinsically in my mind, so they go in together. >_> ) I have fought a long time to graduate with my BA and to move back to Chicago, IL, and both things were achieved this year. While I'm not physically in CHicago yet, I signed the lease on an apartment two weeks before my university graduation, both in December. 2011 was fraught with many difficulties, agonies, and heartaches, but I made it, I graduated, ad I"m going home. :D

Why this will remind me of 2011: Well, 2011 was all about Harry Potter for me. I mean, seriously, between DH 2 and Pottermore, it was just all about Harry Potter. It was one of the highlights of my year for me.

Why this will remind me of 2011: I graduated from university this past spring. It was definitely one of my most major events to have happened this year, and with that it was the happiest one I'd say. That's why I'd like to have this remembered in the time capsule of all the possible things I could put in there, because it symbolizes reaching a milestone!

Why this will remind me of 2011: It was summer vacation... the only time my kids will be 5&7 before their birthdays, and I want to remember this time.. when they still thought mom was the best && their entire world.

Why this will remind me of 2011: I started this year in Paris. It was a much needed vacation that was exciting and fun but also really difficult because I was living with my boyfriend's family and no one spoke English. It really challenged me to be less shy and more independent. I bought a whole bunch of souvenirs that I didn't end up giving to anyone so this is extra!

Why this will remind me of 2011: This was a pretty monumental year as far as years go, and it was not easy to decide what to include, but I chose the blanket that volunteers quilted for my newborn when he was in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. We nearly lost him after he was born, and that was a frightening time. It's nice that volunteers give things to families struggling with the fact that everyone else gets to take home a happy newborn-- but not them. It was a bright blanket and well made. You can see it in the bottom of the picture below. We still have it :) It's just amazing looking back at everything we've been through this year, and I think this one object symbolizes it greatly.

Why this will remind me of 2011: 2011 is the year I graduated with an MFA from film school. These cans are from one of the first jobs I worked as a professional Camera Assistant and Loader, which is what I hope to be doing for the rest of my life. This wasn't my first job in the industry, but is by far one of my favorites. I met a lot of really amazing people that have turned into good friends. Plus, working with actual film stock is quickly becoming a rarity these days. Being able to get my hands on some 16mm and be the sole person responsible for making sure that it was loaded and unloaded properly was such a thrill.

Why this will remind me of 2011: The picture used on my trading card is from the day I GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE-- I had too much fun with those tassles and of course they ended up on my head at several points during the day because I'm a nerd like that. Also, the months right after graduation in which I was unemployed and job searching were kind of depressing...but I joined HiH and found fun and productive stuff to do with my free time. I hope whenever I see this trading card again, I'll have obtained more stamps (if not all of them)! :)

(sorry the picture is so blurry; and I'm copying Sonja and blacking out my name & ID #)
Why this will remind me of 2011: I picked my ID because this year I decided not to finish my PhD and to leave graduate school. The ID reminds me of the time while I was a student, and also of the really tough decision (that took me months, really) of deciding to leave school in August, and that it was really the best decision I could make.
