The Animagus Club

As the Animagus Board is slowly making progress working its way through the current applications, I think it's time to announce a new rule:

Before you apply to become an animagus, you have to buy the first 5 books of the Standard Book of Spells Series at [livejournal.com profile] hh_diagon.

Why? Well, becoming an animagus is *difficult*. Not just any first year student can become one. The books symbolize the years you spend at Hogwarts and having 5 of them means you're a 5th year student (in this club) and able to become an animagus.

So, off you go, earn knuts, buy the books, then apply!

Please fill out the application using the code below and add at the end =)

Please comment below (in screened comments) with your application, and we will get back to you within a few days. Please be detailed in your application. Same goes for this one as the one for [livejournal.com profile] platform_934: explain your answers. We have millions of animals to pick from, not just 4 houses, so help us out a little by giving a detailed application. Thank you!

Comments? Questions? Just leave a comment below :)

I finally got around to this. Bad me.

House: Gryffindor!
Best Trait: I think my best trait is probably my empathy. I care so much about other people, even if I despise them and more. Sometimes it can be a curse, because it will affect my mood, but I'm glad I care so much. More people need to.
Worst Trait: Currently I hate the procrastinator in me with a passion. As hard as I try to get going on essays, projects, homework, I always end up doing things at the last minute. If there were one thing I could change about myself, that would be it.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? I want my animal form to be capable of being strong yet kind, intelligent yet relaxed. Most of all, I want my animal to bring me cookies to compliment myself, in both bad traits and good traits. When I think about my animagus, I'd like to experience a feeling of warmth and completion. Hard to explain, I know, but I hope that helps?
Choose one of the following Earth
Warm or cool? Warm
Morning or evening? Evening
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? Depends on the people. But for the most part, I like to be around others.
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome!

Image

The picture doesn't show it, but I'm quite tall (5 foot 8 inches) and my hair is past my shoulders.

What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? I play volleyball (most sports), I love creative writing, I play the violin, cooking is fun, anything creative like re-decorating my room, binder, etc. You should see my computer desk o.O;
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with? I particularly like turtles, dogs, rabbits, and large felines (like tigers). Honestly, I've been asked so many times "If you were an animal, what would you be?" and I have no answer to that. I really don't know.
Are there any animals you are afraid of? Nope. Unless you count baboons.
Why would you like to be an animagus? Like I said, I have no idea what animal I would be. So it should be interesting to see what others think of me as, though I have one friend who thinks I'd be like a turtle.

Have fun!

House: Gryffindor

Best Trait: I'd have to say my open-mindness. Never will I judge someone/something on the outer appearence or looks. That's just wrong in my point of view. You can have so many things in common with someone who people think is the complete opposite of you, and to me that's fine. :)

Worst Trait: I can be sensitive at times. I don't really mean to be, I think I was rather born with it.. I guess. I can take things very harshly and deep, and it doesn't always have to be something cruel or mean. I think I just make it that way.

What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? Speed. I think speed is a great and important neccesity for an animal, because it can have so many advantages when dealing with certain circumstances.

Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth. I've always been afraid of heights my whole life, which is terrible I know. And I haven't always been so keen in the water. I usually get so tired swimming. I also have a fear of drowning. UGH!

Warm or cool? warm. I absolutely love warm weather. Not too hot and not too cold. It's just nice. I think when the weather IS just right, you find yourself not always worrying about if it is too hot or too cold. Your thoughts in your head are clear, until you think of something. hahah.

Morning or evening? Evening. I've never been a morning person. I just usually have a hard time getting up in the morning. That's why I schedule all my college classes in the afternoon and evening. :)

Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? I like to have people around me. I never felt comfortable being alone or by myself.. I feel more comfortable around people/peers. I think it's just having the company of another person is gratifying.

Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome!
Okay well, I'm 5`1 1/2. I weigh 100 lbs. I have long brown hair, brown eyes. I'm tan (Mom's from the Phillipines). I have big feet and hands (which I'm not very proud of).
here are some pictures (bare with me, they're heinous) :(
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v85/erinypies14/erinpicturess.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v85/erinypies14/erinhunter2.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/erinpie/100_1368.jpg

they're the only ones I can find at the moment. hahaha. I'm sorry.

What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? I like to do alot of things. I like to watch movies, I like to go shopping, I LOVE to eat. Yea, I love food, but I don't think that's considered a hobby. Um, I sometimes go fishing with my dad. I did track & field in high school. And that's about it. I usually don't have time to do much, because I work most of the time. I work at a mexican restaurant with my sister [livejournal.com profile] _becca_. I have to seat people and all that jazz. It's fun, you get to meet so many new people. :D

Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with? Well, I DO love all animals, but I think I'm very fond of cats and dogs. hehee. I have 1 dog and 3 cats at the moment. My family does love animals. We always usually find strays and have to keep them or give them to the NO KILL s.p.c.a's. But ya, all my animals I have were either given away free, found, or picked up from the s.p.c.a.

Are there any animals you are afraid of? I guess I'd have to say bears. There are a few bears here where I live, and some can be pretty vicious. Although, I do think the baby bears are adorable and cute. :) I'm also afraid of Porcipines. I hate needles, and needless to say those things are filled with them. yuck. but they are cute I must admit, I would never try to pet one.

Why would you like to be an animagus? Who wouldn't want to be? I think it's great. Although I did feel bad for Remus in PoA, because in some part's it didn't look like he enjoyed it so much. But if I could, I'd definetly would want to be an animagus. I find transfiguration very interesting for the most part. Plus, I love animals, so being one would be pretty sweet. ;)

House: Gryffindor
Best Trait: I feel that my best trait is my being artistic/creative. From the time I was little I have always loved anything to do with art. I often draw in a sketch book. I am currently going after a degree in Art, and have taken many classes of different mediums, such as clay, paint, sculpture, and design. Most of my time is spent doing something that involves art, even when I am watching tv, I enjoy pbs documentaries about famous artists.
Worst Trait: I tend to be very stubborn. I often get into arguments and will not back down, even if I may be partly wrong. I continue to have an attitude even after the conflict is over. Unless I am 100 percent at fault I will not apologize until the other party does.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? I would like my animal form to be capable of being strong as to protect itself, but not so much that it would be very noticeable, because its top trait would be stealth, the ability to go around undetected.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth I choose Earth, I have always felt a connection with nature, particularly forests and mountainous areas.
Warm or cool? I don't like extremes of either, but I would much rather be warm than too cold.
Morning or evening? I am definitely nocturnal. I stay up all hours of the night until morning when I go to bed for awhile, I am somewhat of a vampire. I have the most fun at night, when it is dark and everything is quiet. I feel that is the best time to go and just walk around my yard, or take a drive.
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? I am not opposed to being around others, but I do like to have my quiet time to myself. I try at least once a day to find a spot where I can go and be alone, so I can read, or just sit in silence. My favorite spots are my room, a chair outside in a really wild leafy part of my yard, or the tub.
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome! I will just give you a couple of pics. Me 1 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v391/SarahDocBrandyBaer/My%20Graphics/photos/melayingdown1.jpg) Me 2 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v391/SarahDocBrandyBaer/me.jpg) The first one is from a couple of weeks ago, and the second is my senior picture from 2003.
What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? I really enjoy art projects, designing costumes, watching movies, reading, hiking, learning as much as I can about anything, from history, to literature. I also spend a major amount of time on LJ, especially in [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsishome, because HP is one of my favorite fandoms, along with Lotr.
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with? I feel very drawn to cats. They are my favorite animal, and I have them as pets, which I treat them more like family members. I love almost all animals, but they have always been special for me.
Are there any animals you are afraid of? I am quite afraid of sea creatures, sharks mainly. But it is more of the thought of being in deep water and not able to see what is lurking down below, and even if they wouldn't want to eat me I still fear them for their size. And also spiders, I know technically they are not animals, but I fear them to the point of tears and screaming.
Why would you like to be an animagus? I would like to become an animagus because it takes work to do it. I want to prove to myself that I can handle the responsibility it takes to become one, and that I won't quit till I am finished. Also I would like to feel closer to nature, and becoming an animal doesn't get you any closer. And lastly, Marauders...that is my other reason.

I bought books 1-5 today, and also deposited knuts from May. I will give the link so you can check it, because I don't know whether you would want the vault updated first, or the books to be posted in my lookup before you review my application, but I just thought I would get started on all of this now. House: (Some days I feel like being as annoying as possible.)
Best Trait: I suppose a specific trait would be... "julienne-ness." The essential quality about me that I would not be me without is my unique-ness. I find my own way, and I make my own morals. However, just because I make them does not mean I remake them very often. I follow my own (sometimes deluded) codes steadily, honestly, and to the best of my ability, and I set goals for myself that I cannot hope to achieve but strive for anyways. So my best trait, or the trait I feel is most prominent, is an independence artfully mixed with a sense and need for inter-dependence based on relationships. I suppose that means that I enjoy my independence, see a need for interdependence on others, and have no qualms about destroying dependent relationships that become parasitic. I can survive, thrive, and achieve brilliance on my own, but I recognize the need to relate and cohabit the world with others. Breaking it into parts, I focus on finding myself, helping my friends find themselves, and making all of us better people. When a person becomes needy or invasive, the parties invaded can choose to ignore that person, but no one expects that person to be completely estranged and excluded from everybody. It's like a society of about twenty or so girls trying to survive Catholic education in a secular world. We could be a cult. Of course, I'm the only one of use arrogant and deluded enough to invent some theory like this, but at the same time, that is my particular view on my relationship with my friends made utterly devoid of human emotion. If I were to describe my actually relationship with my friends, it would be a jumble of images, sounds, and tastes creating a Technicolor whirlwind of music and folly. In any case, I am an individualistic person who sees the point of having society instead of living as a hermit.
Worst Trait: I'm a very, very arrogant person. For me, English and languages come naturally and easily, and I suppose because I'm so good at it, I hold myself and everyone around me to really high standards. Thinking about it, I realize that because I rarely meet the goals myself I expect someone around me to, and when neither of us does, I'm extremely disappointed in the latter. It's worse, however, when I reach a goal and people I know don't. I gloat in subtle ways, making sure to nod at my score to make it seem that I had no doubts, making sure to turn my paper over in mock humility—it's horrible of me, and I do it anyways. In some circumstances, non-school related, I think I actually strut. I think it's because I tried to take pride in myself as a child, but now I've taken it too far. In reality, I've actually started considering the many ways that I am more unique than another person, and I'm beginning to think I really ought to stop. Of course, I should say that when we see ourselves, we tend to see only our worst qualities and to magnify them out of reasonable proportions. I might be exaggerating, for all I know, but I have caught myself mentally mocking people around me for not being quite enough in some categories, not unique enough, not smart enough, not enough of an individual, not enough of a free-thinker—whatever.
What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? Defending itself. I'm not one to take crap lying down, so if something bigger wanted me for dinner, I'd like to put up a fight and make it go away. Or, were I a predator, I should prefer a creature that can defend its territory from other species. I like what's mine to stay mine.
Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth Earth. As much as I would like to fly, I don't think it suits me very well. I like being able to clamber over boulders and dig my toes into the soft loam after a rain. Most of all, I really enjoy running and jumping more than I do leaping off tall objects. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not acrophobic or anything).

Part Two

[identity profile] deus3xmachina.livejournal.com 2005-06-08 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Warm or cool? I like cool breezes in warm air, but I suspect this is in regard to climate, so I say I prefer a warm climate. Islands and tropics are preferable because they have the right conditions for my perfect weather: a humid day about 80F with a cool, steady breeze and cloudy with rain on the air.
Morning or evening? I like outside best between twilights, late at night when the world is still and the breeze floats along the air. I'll tell you a not-so-secret: I have a weird habit of getting out of bed at about one a.m. to rollerblade in my backyard. It's so peaceful at night with the stars out and there's nothing to bother me. It's soothing.
Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? Oh, dear, I like both. I love having a tight group of friends who are willing to leap out in the street and run around like crazy and dance ridiculously to rock music and sing annoyingly from apartment roofs and have parties at midnight on top of parking garages... but at the same time I enjoy snatching a few quiet minutes to collect myself and separate me from all the excitement. However, if I had to choose only one for the rest of forever, I'd choose the excitement. I'd rather have people around me all the time than to be alone because even when I'm surrounded by my friends, I can always close my eyes for a few seconds and remember to be me and not them.
Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome! Hm, I have brown eyes, but if I sit at a certain place in the cafeteria during 'a' lunch, the sun from the skylights hits my eyes just right and they look like molten gold. At least, that's what one of my more eloquent friends said. My hair is brown, but if I wait and let it get disgusting and then wash it, it looks like dark honey. I have...skin. It's a neutral beige colour until I step outside. Seriously, five or so seconds and I look like I spent several hundred dollars on a tan. It's great. My Native American heritage really pays off, and I mock my pale, lobster-red friends all the time. As for my other features... we won't get into those. On a normal day, I smell like strange mix of juniper (my lotion), chamomile (my room spray), rosemary (my shampoo), cherry-almond (my conditioner), and some coconut-y fruit-y smell (my hair gunk), but on nights when I forget and leave my candle burning, I also smell faintly burnt newspaper and lavender. Oh, and my socks smell like something in the sachet in my sock drawer, while I'm babbling about my personal olfactory sensations...
Image
What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? Ahahha, "hobby" being an understatement. I spend my entire LIFE in the school theatre; I eat, sleep, and breathe our productions. I'm already helping plan the spring production for next year! My friends can tell what part of the year we're in simply by how much I'm screaming about the theatre. It's a love-hate relationship, honestly. And, on top of that, I somehow manage to edit and select pieces for the literary magazine, which, this year, is destined to win some national awards because we worked so hard on it. I'm also involved in several school clubs, three of which have plans for exciting things over the summer. As president-elect of the scifiers, I'm organizing the book release party-purchasing. Oh, and our refugee-aid club raised over five hundred dollars this year, and it's only our first year! Outside of clubs, I go "shopping" with my friends (which basically consists of running around like madmen at the local shopping center/train station/loft/movie theatre) and hang out online. I spend a lot of time with people.

Part Three

[identity profile] deus3xmachina.livejournal.com 2005-06-08 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with? A connection with? Not really. As a kid, I wanted to be a panther or a jaguar, but I came to think that was silly. However, thinking about these questions you keep asking about climates and things, I do think a tropical or jungle animal is best. I don't see myself as something wandering deserts or destroying a temperate forest, but, hey, you have to make the tough decisions. I will say that on some days I feel canine and on others I feel feline, which is another way of saying that I am neither a dog person nor a cat person as I have both.
Are there any animals you are afraid of? If you don't make fun of me, I will tell you that I am terrified of emus. When I was six, I went to a drive-through wildlife preserve/zoo, and I tried to feed an emu. It tried to eat my hand, I swear! I am so scarred. Emus, cockroaches, and wasps are the only animals that really put me off.
Why would you like to be an animagus? Sometimes it's nice to let go of worries and focus on the more important and pressing parts of life: shelter, pack, water, food, and sleep. I'm kidding. Actually, I've always wondered what kind of animal I'd be, and I'm sure it could be useful for something. Plus, sometimes it's nice to achieve a thing or two.

application - part one

[identity profile] thespyglass.livejournal.com 2005-08-13 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
House: Ravenclaw

Best Trait:
My answer to this changes every time I consider it. But anyway...
The thing I like most about myself is my ability to think rationally and objectively. It's the most satisfying thing I can do, to examine something, analyse it - be it a feeling or an event or opinion - and attempt to get as close to 'truth' as possible. I used to fall into the trap of over-analysing and criticising but not thinking rationally about the consequences of doing so. It was more of a compulsion and got me into all sorts of emotional pickles. Now it's an ability I can turn back on itself, making sure that being rational is the best thing to do. If that makes sense?! Some circumstances call for impulsiveness and I also have that in spades.

Worst Trait:
Again, thoughts on this change a lot, but today I'll say that I'm not honest enough. I like that I'm reserved and quiet rather than obtuse and melodramatic, but I wish I could be as forthrightly honest as some people, really say what I think to people's faces. I sometimes let others think untruths about me. When it's required of me to lie I really enjoy doing it.

What would you want your animal form to be most capable of?
Speed, I think. I often fantasise about just running and running without stopping, or flying away somewhere completely different. Although that's what I'd choose over everything, not necessarily what I think reflects me the best. (I'm not exactly a sprinter!) Maybe it should be escape then, the ability to leave or vanish whenever I want.

Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth
Tough. There are qualities in all of them that I admire and think I posess. I choose Air, because it conjures images of lightness and change, but depth and consistency at the same time. To me, Air feels like your 'higher' mind, whatever that is, and somehow seems the most objective of the three. I like the steady warmth and fullness of Earth, and the dreamy strength of water, but Air suits me the best. I still have a kind of childlike curiosity and sense of wonder about the world and Air embodies that, I think.

Warm or cool?
Cool. I'd always prefer to be too cold than too hot and if I had to choose between living somewhere colder than Britain or warmer, I'm choose colder... and Britain's already pretty cold!

Morning or evening?
Evening, definitely. Although I like mornings - if I've had enough sleep! - I'm a night person. Mentally I feel more awake in late afternoon, early evening. I love the stars and the quiet and being awake when no one around you is. I like relaxing in the garden as the sun goes down in summer, or curling up by the fire in the winter when it's dark outside at 6pm, or taking my dog out in the woods when the bats wake up. Everything just seems more exciting in the evenings.

Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner?
More of a loner. I have a nice, close family and spend time with them by default, but I like my space and prefer to be by myself. No conversation necessary! My friends have to make me meet them, otherwise we'd spend almost no time together. I'm a very bad friend when it comes to socialising.

Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome!
I'm currently 150lbs at 5'3", which makes me very curvy. Luckily it all sits in a rough hourglass shape. My hair is naturally a dark reddish brown and fairly wavy. I have greeny-hazel eyes and normally wear glasses but have contacts on in this photo:

Image

What are your favourite hobbies and extracurricular activities?
Too many things! I spread myself pretty thin, but I enjoy reading, writing, sketching, walking...
I'm a movie whore. I love history, philosophy, anthropology and psychology. I have a wonderful dog called Jazz who demands a lot of my time. I'm really interested in the natural world; I'm not one of these sappy nature lovers who only likes the cute things or resents the predators. I also watch a lot of silly TV and spend too long on the internet.

Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with?
Not overly drawn to but I have lots of favourites.
I've been around dogs all my life and feel very comfortable with them. I especially like Collie-type dogs - Jazz is part collie - because of how intelligent and alert they are. They're so trainable and have boundless energy. I also like Labradors and spaniel types. I used to have a wonderful Cavalier King Charles and my first dog was part Lab, part collie.
I do love birds and spend a lot of the time being very jealous that I can't fly! We get a lot of different varieties in our garden, mostly songbirds with the odd Sparrowhawk thrown in. It's nice just listening to the owls in the woodland at night.
I love the big African cats and Bengal tigers. Anyone else seen Big Cat Diary on the BBC?! It's given me a new respect for lions which I used to think were 'boring'. For some reason I've grown up with tiger symbolism all around me and that was my favourite animal when I was younger. I always wanted to be a tiger because they seemed the strong, silent, solitary type.

Are there any animals you are afraid of?
No, I really try not to be afraid of any animals. I certainly don't have any phobias. I'm okay with insects and arachnids; I'm not in love with them but if one needs moving outside then I'm the one who does it. I love mice and just don't get people who are afraid of them. I like snakes; I held a couple at the Natural History Museum when I was very young and consquently never developed the fear that a lot of people have. I can't imagine that I wouldn't be nervous diving with sharks or something, but I'd be too interested and excited to let that get in the way of enjoying the experience.

Why would you like to be an animagus?
I love the idea of Animagi in the Potter books. I especially liked how the witch/wizard can't choose what they become but the animal chooses them, according to their personality. If you've read the His Dark Materials trilogy you'll know about Dæmons, the parts of people's 'souls' or psyches that exist in the physical world as an animal. If you haven't read it then that sentence probably didn't make a whole lot of sense! But I fell in love with that concept as well. People are animals and have become too separate from the natural world. Becoming an Animagus is partly about having a respect for nature and recognising something of ourselves in other animals, as well as becoming more self-aware, which is always good, I think.
Plus at HiH it earns you points.

Ps. I bought all the books ;)

[identity profile] ohelectricshock.livejournal.com 2005-08-24 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
(I've requested the purchase of the 5 books so I'm just awaiting the transaction to go through, but I'm going to send in my application so I don't lose it XD)

House: Gryffindor

Best Trait: I’d like to think I have more than one best trait XD but since we have to narrow it down I’d have to say my sense of humour. I don’t believe I have ever gone through a single day where I have not made a person laugh. Yay!

Worst Trait: Stubbornness/Sarcasm. I know they’re not directly related but I am ALWAYS having to have the last word in an argument and I constantly make sarcastic comments, even though I mean well with them, haha.

What would you want your animal form to be most capable of? I would love an animal that flies. Flying has been my number one dream since I was four. It would be amazing.

Choose one of the following -- Air, Water, Earth As much of a flying fan I am, I always have to choose water over air, because I already know how to swim so I wouldn’t mind if my animal form couldn’t, but I love water and I feel so at home on the ocean.

Warm or cool? COLD. I love being in my freezing room with the window wide open. My family says I’m crazy but I love the cold.

Morning or evening? Evening/Night I’m at my wittiest and most awake at night time XD

Do you like to have people around you or are you more of a loner? I’m definitely more on the loner side. I do enjoy being around people, but only for a short period of time. I can’t think when I’m surrounded by people, and I value my alone time.

Please give an accurate description of your appearance; pictures are welcome! I’m about 5”6 with blonde hair and blue eyes. I’m about 120 lbs and I have a picture heeeree Image

What are your favorite hobbies and extracurricular activities? Well first off I’m definitely most passionate about dancing. I’ve been at it since I was three and I’m absolutely mad about it. I dance around 11 hours during the normal week and I love every minute of it J. I’m also always on the computer, and I’m getting really into graphics making. I also love to read, and I devour books like a madwoman XD.

Are there any animals that you feel drawn to or a connection with? Not really, but I’ve always felt that I share many likenesses with puffins, only because they’re aquatic, arctic birds and I think they’re fabulous.

Are there any animals you are afraid of? Do spiders count? XD No really I’m not scared of many animals, except the occasional crazy dog that jumps out at you when you’re running down the street.

Why would you like to be an animagus? There are a number of reasons, but I believe the strongest and most prominent reason is because I think it’s an absolutely fascinating idea, to be able to change your shape into something else at will. I read Animorphs religiously because I thought the whole principle was fantastic. And to have the opportunity to do it myself would be amazing.
