What comes to my mind is the reading of the Grim. Remember when Trelawney thought she saw a Grim? It was a dog shaped lump of leaves. She could have interpreted it as a dog and could have added that it could possibly be a Grim, but she went straight for the jugular (but then again, she was famous for that). In a way she was right, it was a Grim like dog, but it wasn't a Grim. So to me, it isn't all that realistic, it's more up to interpretation. I understand what you mean, definitely! But then again, I believe that reading tea leaves is more of fortune telling than divination, so yeah.
