Herbology Club Information Session and Application

Welcome to the Herbology Club!

Hi, I am your club leader,

mhookermyers.

Please find a seat and we will get started with the information session about the Herbology Club.

First off, let's go over the...
Rules:

As always, please observe the common rules in hh_clubs here.

You must be a member of hogwartsishome! If you're not a member of the main community, you cannot participate here. It goes without saying that you should also be a member of hh_clubs, too.

Please make sure your house is in your comment somewhere (subject line, signature tag, or at the end of your comment), so you can get credit for what you do here!

Do not make separate posts for comments, concerns, or suggestions about the club. There is a special post for them, so, make them here. I am very open to suggestions. I love to get suggestions. So, please, please don't be shy!

Respect all members, moderators, and club leaders. If you have a problem, come to either myself or a moderator.

Anyone who is interested in joining the club, please fill out an application and turn it in before you leave.

One quick note about the...
Application:
This application is so that we can get to know each other better. Since the old Herbology Club never had an application (or at least one I could not find), I expect all members, new and old, to complete this application. (I have mine posted below). No one will be rejected from membership unless you have not been sorted, or you are not currently a member of

hogwartsishome.

As a club we are allowed to have as many activities/contests as you, the members, would like to have, but only one of them a month can be for points. I would also like to have at least one discussion activity a month and if it turns out that all of you would like to have more of them, I will be more than happy to set it up. I would like to see everyone participate in the activity for points because it will help with the upkeep of the membership list. I will try to keep the activities we do for points to something everyone can do, such as a scavenger hunt, research project, or something that doesn't require a specific application to accomplish (i.e., Photoshop).

For now, I will be posting new activities on Sunday night and ending them either on Thursday or Friday night, depending on the activity.

If you decide you no longer want to be a member of this club, please let me know as a comment below, and I will take you off the membership roster.

Please remember that this is a place to get together with others and have fun!! All dirt and manure of the emotional kind should be left at the door. The only dirt and manure that should be in this room is the kind that we use to grow beautiful plants.

My favorite is willows, too. I grew up next to a lake that had this beautiful weeping willow next to the water. I used to climb it and just sit in the branches reading or watching the world go by.

Have you had dandelion greens salad? I got to try some last year. I didn't realize that you have to pick them very early in the season for the best taste. Very good eats.

What is your favorite plant?: Lily. More specifically, I really love the Water Lily.

for practical reasons (i.e., cooking), or both?: More for the enjoyment factor than the practacality. I am facinated in the medicinal use of plants, however. I just am no cook, and therefore such knowledge is useless to me.

fun, etc), explain?: Both the learning and the fun. I really have always enjoyed the plant guesses, as they teach me something new each time. I love the hunt, and I really love finding the right answer.

I grew up next to a lake. If left alone, the water lilies grew like mad along the shoreline. I loved looking at them.

What is your favorite plant?: Kalangoe (okay, I'm not sure if it's spelled that way, I tried googling it but that didn't really help..) I love those, they've got cute flowers and they're available in lots of colors. There's always a couple of them on my window-sill. I just like looking at plants in nature and on hikes, so enjoyment. :) I can't cook.

I got involved with the OH Dept. of Natural Resources when I was home schooling my son. That is when I found out how much enjoyment I get out of hiking. They have some really great trails around where I live.

I have to agree, there is a whole lot of satisfaction knowing that you have grown a healthy creature. I find that as much with plants as I do with my dogs.

for practical reasons (i.e., cooking), or both?: really practical reasons. My mum gave me a sunflower to take care of in Res and it died. I'm moving into a house for next semester and I want to be able to take care of potted plants, because flowers make me happy. ^.^.
