Wizarding Wear: Term XXVI, Activity 1: Fashion Trends

Activity: Fashion Trends - a discussion
Points: initial comment: 10 points, 2pts per additional comment
Deadline: May 15th, 21:00 UTC
Details: Every summer we have new fashion trends but do you like them? What would you change?
And do you think the Harry Potter characters would wear them?

So let's have a little debate. It's about fashion and I know that I love to talk about what models have been wearing on the runway (and well, when watching Germany's next topmodel I also laugh about the "models")
Anyways, like every summer there are some must-wears - at least that's what Fashion magazines tell us. But what do you think about these must-wears? Do you like them? Hate them? And would Hermione, Ron, Draco or Snape wear them? I googled some of the trends and posted the pictures so you have an idea what to talk about.

Fashion trends 2013 for women: (according to vogue)

Summer Fashion trends for men: (according to GQ)

I like the "Get Graphic" and 90's nostalgia definitely speaks to me as I was born in the 90's (although I don't love everything from the 90s, lol). I really like the dress in the very first picture -- it makes me think of a dress KStew or Emma Watson would wear, and I generally like both their styles very much. Not a huge fan of the sixties unless it's more... androgynous :) I'm not sure how I feel about cropped pants. I'm sure they'd suit some people fine, but I don't really see the appeal here [edit: I ironically just realised I own quite a few pairs of these... they just look much better on me, lolololol]. I love grey on grey, and belted coats seem like a classic, no? It screams "film noir" to me, in a good way :)
So:
- I think Luna would pull off Sexy sixties like crazy. Get Graphic also, but it suits her a bit less imo.
- I also think Lavender would wear Sexy Sixties well.
- Hermione might indulge in a 90's jumper because she might actually be nostalgic of her adolescent years jumpers -- actually the whole Golden Trio?
- Blaise Zabini would be all over grey on grey, and so would be Draco, especially with his grey eyes!
- Pansy would wear belted coats -- I know, I know, it's men's fashion but she's avant-garde like that, okay? She'd steal her lover's to go get some croissants or something. Wait no, scratch that, she would wear one, that her lover would steal to go get them some croissants. Pansy would not get up to get some croissants. But Daphne would. Oops.
- Snape would rock that belted coat as well.
- Ginny would Get Graphic and look fabulous.

I think the Get Graphic would suit Luna better than the sixties (though I think she could pull off either). I think it would appeal more to her attitude (and she's one of the few people I think could pull it off). Completely agree about Blaise and Draco pulling off the grey on grey.

I just wanted to say that I love the comment about Pansy. So very good and true. ;)

Lololol, which one? How she would be avant-garde and wear menswear, or how she would not get up to get some croissants?
Anyway yeah, I see her as a "cutting edge" person, not a fashion victim. At least, I imagine she'd like to think herself one step ahead, hehe.

Both! :)

And yes, I think that Pansy would very much be on the forefront of these things. She doesn't shrink back---I can see her being very up on the newest trends and pushing them further and further.

I can see Hermione wearing a 90's jumper for that reason, but not Harry/Ron. IDK, but to me, they don't seem like ones to be nostalgic for the past? In later years, especially.

But who knows, I'm kind of high on painkillers right now, so my mind just might be making things up.

Aha. Pansy would all be for making her lover go get some croissants!

Well I think Harry and Ron would just not care about fashion and dig in occasionally into their old jumpers, haha :D

Also yesss, I can totally see it. I would gladly bring her some croissants. Although I like to be brought some croissants too. Basically as soon as croissants are involved I'm on board :D

eepp. Lots of love for your comment. Stupid ocean separating us for going shopping together.

Because you speak of croissant I get the impression that Daphne is now in France. I don't think British people pick up croissant from a bakery that often lol But maybe I am wrong.

I fully agree with Blaise and Draco doing the whole grey on grey thing. I think that Regulus might have done it as well. I also agree that Ron, Hermione and Harry might sometime pull our a 90s jumper (feels wrong...in my mind its a sweater) but it might be more out of convenience and comfort than because of fashion look.

Oh but they would most definitely go to the bakery where Gabrielle works in Paris. Croissants anywhere outside of France are absolute rubbish and they would know it. I think they could live in France, but if they decided to stay in England, Pansy would settle for a blueberry muffin or a piece of carrot cake. Possibly a cheesecake if she's feeling grumpy.

OH YES REGULUS how could I forget him! He would look dapper with Grey on Grey. Agreed on the comfort factor outweighting the style one in the Golden Trio's mind, esp the boys ^^

After reading through a bunch of this and looking at recent style, I need to ask - are your cropped pants skinny jeans by any chance? Because I've noticed that those are a little easier to pull off than cropped pants with wide legs. Girls that wear skinny jeans that are cropped just look like they're wearing leggings (in my opinion, at least) and it actually looks god!

Not exactly... They're not skinny, more like... slim and straight? Think Audrey Hepburn. I have a plaid pair that's especially retro and rather warm, black ones that are lighter, and grey ones that look a bit sirwal but still really classy (I really like this one, haha). I do think it looks good. The important thing in my opinion is that it does not look as if it was too short or too wide and too short. If it really looks like it's supposed to be short, it can look lovely. I wear them with ballerinas usually, occasionally pumps.

Lol yay another grey on grey lover! It's funny.....I liked the grey on grey trend, but now seeing it widely disliked in the comments I feel some weird need to defend it.

Ohhhhhhh now that you mention it.....Ginny would look fantastic in get graphic!

Hehe Ikr?

And YES Ginny would look terrific in that. It so happens I drew her in a dress with a graphic pattern in the past so this instantly made me think of her. You can see the drawing here (http://nearlyconscious.deviantart.com/art/Pansy-and-Parvati-370236772) if you're curious ^-^

Ahhhhh LUNA IN THE SIXTIES. Yes, so much with the yes on this one! :) She's got the ethereal wild child attitude to go with it too, and her long hair would work well with the style of the era.
