Wizarding Wear: Term XXVI, Activity 1: Fashion Trends

Activity: Fashion Trends - a discussion
Points: initial comment: 10 points, 2pts per additional comment
Deadline: May 15th, 21:00 UTC
Details: Every summer we have new fashion trends but do you like them? What would you change?
And do you think the Harry Potter characters would wear them?

So let's have a little debate. It's about fashion and I know that I love to talk about what models have been wearing on the runway (and well, when watching Germany's next topmodel I also laugh about the "models")
Anyways, like every summer there are some must-wears - at least that's what Fashion magazines tell us. But what do you think about these must-wears? Do you like them? Hate them? And would Hermione, Ron, Draco or Snape wear them? I googled some of the trends and posted the pictures so you have an idea what to talk about.

Let's start off with the Get Graphic fashion. While I'm a fan of graphic fashions, this just screams way too much. In fact, in all honesty, when I first saw the image, I thought the dress was photoshopped on, aha. That being said, because of the fact that the dress itself is so bold, with a lot of bright colors, I don't see many of the characters wearing something like it, unless they were like, Fleur, or someone that could pull it off. So, if we were talking about wearing something like this in the time of the HP characters, I'd say no, I can't see anyone really pulling this dress off. In the now times, though, it'd be tough to say. Most females would probably be getting there in age and this wouldn't work so much, anyways. For 90's Nostalgia, I can see this working, but I just can't see the two clothing items working together (what, I didn't say I was fashionable). So, I think this fashion could definitely work. I see it basically fitting like, every female in the series as lounging clothes, but Hermione and Tonks especially. Lmfao, lastly, there is the sexy sixties. I can see someone like Lavender or Ginny wearing it, maybe on a spring date, perhaps. Minus the makeup. It's a cute dress, and I can definitely see a lot of people liking it both in this time and in the time of the characters!

Okay, I can honestly see Snape wearing a combination between the cropped trousers and belted coat. I think because the coat would probably hide him, and he might like that when he was younger. As for older, it could cause more dramatics for him, aha. And lastly, I don't really see any character wearing grey on grey, simply because I find wearing a same shade of one color is too blending, and makes a person invisible.

Actually I could see Draco rocking a fabulous grey on grey suit and looking super suave in it. Especially when he's not school aged. I think it would fit his refined and clean style.

Hm, I hadn't thought of that before but now that you mention it, I can definitely see Draco wearing the outfit! Maybe because he has such a blond set of hair and, from my headcanon, was pale!

Honestly, the more I look at it, the more I could see Percy wanting to wear something like that, thinking it would make him look mature and important.

Oh wow, yes. Percy would totally be all over mostly-monochrome with lots of subtle texture and a bit of color in the pocket square.

A+. I think that Percy would fit those colors wonderfully so!

Yesssssss Percy would definitely do the grey on grey. But.......I feel like his would be more try hard and not necessarily the kind of grey on grey that looks super chic.

Yes, this, the grey on grey look would be so boss on the filthy rich and infamous! It's Bond villain, silver-spoon-in-mouth material. I don't know how much grey I'd like on everything, but I think it would definitely work on Draco.

I think Grey on Grey would look amazing on both Draco and Blaise though. They'd both have the poise necessary to pull it off and not look invisible :D

Ooooh I hadn't thought of Tonks in Nostalgia 90s but that totally makes sense.
Maybe nextgen kids, too. Trying to look vintage, hehe.

To each it's own? IDK. -shrugs- I just -- I think it depends on the shades of grey, to be honest. *insert lame joke about there being 50 shades ;)*

Tonks in 90's really does! And you know, nextgen does too, because every other generation does something like that.

HEHEHEHE I see what you mean :) An anthracite grey along with a very pale grey isn't the same as tone on tone...!

I agree, every other generation gets nostalgic of something they never knew, so I think nextgen would totally rock some 90s jumpers, haha.

Completely agree on the Get Graphics being too much. I don't even think Fleur would be able to pull it off. I get the feeling she likes outfits that are a bit more classy and understated. For the 90s Nostalgia, now that you mention it I can totally see Tonks wearing something like that when she's just lounging around the house (especially the sweatshirt). And I love the idea of Ginny wearing that dress! It would suit her well with her frame and hair color.

I agree with Alex, though, that Draco (if he were to wear muggle clothes) would probably go for the grey suit.

Maybe she'd wear a slightly classy/understated get graphiced version? ;) I don't think she'd go for something completely bold like shown, but I do think she'd like some graphic things. Yeah, I just think of 90's nostalgia as the ultimate lounging around the house clothing, aha, so it would probably suit just about anyone ;)

Exactly! I don't like Ginny, but if she wore that dress, she'd be extremely cute!

Yeah, I can see Fleur going for a more understated version (the blue would look nice on her).

The more I look at the 60's dress the more I can imagine Lily wearing it as well. Granted, she was born in the 60's and that mod look began in England so it makes sense that she would appreciate that kind of style.

Hm, I can kind of see that, but not in the wizarding world. I can see it as her and Petunia throwing 'tea parties' sort of way, but I think that's it when it comes to Lily, who knows.

Chiming in my agreement here for Draco and the gray on gray! But also, I think the thought that Snape would wear the belted coat is a good one. I don't really see him wearing cropped trousers though - I think that he'd actually sneer or look down upon people wearing those. I also think that he wouldn't wear them because after lanky teen years, a person really learns how to dress for their body type (at least sometimes) and I think he'd have the knowledge and means to make sure all of his clothes were perfectly tailored.

Like I said earlier, I think it depends on the shades of Grey. Maybe the one shown is too dark for my tastes, or too much of the same color, who knows. -shrugs- As for Snape, well, I meant he'd wear the cropped trousers in his teen years, not necessarily after though.

I can actually see Tonks going for something super-graphic if she was dressing up for a party---that dress could be the dress-up equivalent of her Weird Sisters shirts and pink hair. She's certainly not afraid of color.

Oh yeah, so can I. But for just lounging around at home, I think the 90's nostalgia is perfect for tonks!

I can definitely see Tonks going grunge nostalgia at home (maybe not so much the Delia's-flower-power-rhinestones look). She's already on the way with the tees and boots, anyways.
