Sweetgrass Baskets. Traditional, functional, beautiful. One of the oldest artistic traditions of African origin still being practiced in the US.

A lot of underprivileged kids live in this area, and we have an art gallery downtown that has a lot of "kid art" in it, it's a really neat place to visit.

Murals along the Arkansas River in Pueblo, CO :) I drove past them everyday on my way to work/school.

This somewhat famous mural is from my downtown core. The city is full of hippies, activists and artists, so we get some really neat street art even though we're relatively small (100,000 during the university school year). :3

Additionally, this is an example of a style of rug hooking that developed in Eastern Canada (where I'm from) and is one of the few purely Canadian art forms that isn't also native.

Art by Iowan artist Hans Eric Olson, and it totally represents what I see everyday when I cross the river into Iowa.

We have a local art and music center for developmentally disabled adults. Their artwork is sold with all proceeds going to the artists. Because my city has many developemtally disabled people, as well as a large mentally ill population, centers like this are amazing.

~Northern lights~ display was pretty epic, devo I didn't get a chance to see them in person!
They decorated the buildings in the city using light projected illustrations :)

Traditional aboriginal art uses lots of interesting symbols and a very distinctive dotting technique

In Helsinki each February the best ice sculptors come from all over the world to make ice sculptures which are then on display in the city zoo. For example, this is a wooly mammoth carved out of ice!

I consider this art because it totally describes Portland, and the way it's constructed is like a statue. It takes an artistic eye. Portland is famous for those "Keep Portland Weird" murals on the sides of buildings, bumper stickers, etcetc. This is my favorite thing when I go to Pioneer Square.

Street art. I love walking all the streets in my city just to enjoy all the things you find hiding in places.

Scotland has a big thing for drawings of harbours and the centre of towns. This is George Square in Glasgow and as a random tidbit, my university is literally just to the left of the picture and like, three buildings up :P The amount of pictures of boats we produce is insane so I went for the town thing as I'm not a boat person!

Singapore has this place called Esplanade: Theatres on the Bay; it's where concerts, art exhibitions are held. And along one of the underpass, there's a walkway dedicated to inspiring local art pieces drawn by all ages. There's a different theme for each month and the art pieces on the wall above changes accordingly. It doesn't have to be paintings, it could be murals, digital art, sculptures etc.

This is not really a form of art but it is a traditional drawing style for my region, Alsace. The artist (Hansi) is also very well known and this piece shows the costumes we wear at regional parties.

Philly's Magic Gardens on South Street. The walls inside and everything in the yard are decorated with recycled things like glass or bottle or bottle caps and even bicycle tires, and incorporated with each other in a mosaic style. Very cool.

There's an art gallery in a historic winery in my city that displays works from current artists locally and nationally. This is one of the works in the permanent collection. :)

It's something of an abomination and truth be told, none of us in the city like that it exists-- we can't wait until the next installment. But this part of downtown usually plays host to modern sculpted art, and currently, this is the featured piece.

These started showing up last summer, and I think there are about 70 of them or so all scattered around. It's done for awareness of local art. (And the cows? So very Texas!)
