It's really amazing to think how a little thing can change so much. I was actually thinking the other day what would have happened if they hadn't stopped Tom in the chamber of secrets. I mean, the book was a Horcrux, so what it was doing was giving more power to that piece of soul, so presumably rather then having two Lord Voldemorts it would have fed back and allowed the one we all love to hate to come to power more quickly. I think it's interesting about Ginny too, especially how her death would have hung over him and his relationship with the Weasleys at such a young age (not that they'd hold him responsible but that he'd see their pain and hold himself responsible, maybe).
