I see Horace Slughorn as a pineapple plant (Ananas comosus). I feel that his favourite fruit (even if he only has been to show its crystallized form) fits him quite well. It's not exactly the easiest thing in a world to open a pineapple and eat it, just as it isn't that easy to get into the Slug Club. But, once you get in (both to the pineapple and Slughorn's elite circle) the rewards are as sweet as imaginable! It also helps that he looks a lot like a pineapple...

That really fits. I like that you equated it back to something he really likes.

I don't know that I would want to to be a part of the Slug Club, but I'm fairly average.

Nice coincidence! I'd like to add though, that pineapples and Slughorn aren't for everyone, as seen from the fact that when some people eat pineapples, their tongues start... stinging (?).

I totally agree! The sweet-sour factor of the fruit also makes it a very unique fruit, as many people enjoy it for its taste (even if it is somewhat acidic). Just like his Slug Club, many people probably would like a taste of what it feels like to be invited to his club, however it's not for everyone.

I'm chuckling at your last sentence, but overall I think your argument is really strong. The fact that pineapples require some challenge to get into, just like the Slug Club, makes a lot of sense. Of course, once you're in the Slug Club, as you point out, the rewards are sweet like getting into a pineapple.

Plus, it's great that you were able to associate him to something that he has been shown to like.

Mmm, plus Pineapple is acidic-ly sweet, just like Slughorn and his Slug club is. Too much, and you'll hurt your tongue!

I think this is a great fit. I also find it interesting that pineapple as a fruit or as juice has so many cooking uses, the same way that he picks different people from different circles. It's like he/pineapple enhance whatever they are involved in making it that much better.
