I ink that this fits really well. People sometimes forget about her beauty because she is so crazy, but I think if you didn't know who she was, you could be deceived. She is definitely very poisonous and dangerous to those around her.

This is a really good description of Hermione. She is very helpful to the trio, and her wisdom has been prominent throughout the books. I also like that you included the caregiver part because she does care for Harry and Ron a lot. She is always by their beds when they are in the hospital, and she provides for them during the camping experiences.

This is funny but also accurate. I'm sure there is more to Cho than we saw, but JKR never let us see that. She does seem to be arm candy for all of the popular boys.

I love this description for Percy. You can't really hug a cactus, and I don't see Percy as the most huggable person. He did hurt his family, but he redeemed himself in the end.

That seems to be the perfect flower for her, she sis extremelly protective of her family and will fight for them even if it means risking her life. She cared more about them then she does herself. The merrygod is the perfect flower for her.

Wow....you nailed her personality perfectly and matched it wonderfully with the plant.

The soapy scent also goes with her with the fact that she is pure, she dosen't really think bad about people. She takes people as they are even if they are being mean to her. She is of pure mind and spirit.

Yes, and I think it's one of JKR's intentional symbolisms. After all, the context it's mentioned in is in a potions recipe, where wormwood mixed with asphodel makes the draught of the living death. As asphodel is both a symbol of grieving over the death of the loved one and a kind of Lily, it seems too layered to be coincidental. Whether you're a fan of Snape/Lily or not, it's an interesting parallel.

James Potter is a fern.

Fern - Magic, Fascination, Confidence and Shelter(source (http://www.800florals.com/care/meaning.asp))

Magic - Well, James was pretty magical, I think this goes without saying. He was a pure-blood, decended from Ignotus Peverell. But, as we saw with Hermione, blood relation has nothing to do with abilities. So, just look at all James did at Hogwarts. Look at the fact that Voldemort tried to recruit him THREE times (and James managed to survive saying "no" each time, too). He became an animagus at a young age. He was a skilled duellist. Needless to say, James was pretty darn magical.

Fascination - I think James could easily zero in on things that captured his fancy *coughs*Lily*coughs*. Plus his mischieviousness demonstrates fascination and curiosity in a lot of things. He was always getting into trouble because he was always trying out new things to see what they did.

Confidence and Shelter - Well, we all know he was a bit of an arrogant toerag (and I love him despite), so the confidence poured off of him in wavses. As to shelter, well, I think he provided shelter in many ways both real and figurative to Harry. Initially, as a man, James sheltered his family from Voldemort as best he could. Then later with Harry's animagus, priori incantatum, and the resurrection stone, James again tried to shelter/protect Harry in some way. Also, the invisibility cloak he passed down did shelter Harry both from physical harm on the outside and also magical harm. It was a Hallow that you hid beneath...

Other - In Finnish traditions, the fern seed that grew on Midsummer night will transport someone invisibly to treasure. So, more of ferns and invisibility. Also, I think Prongs would munch on a fern and James would appreciate that irony. ^_~

Awesome connection between Athena and Minerva and the olive tree. I totally agree on it being McGoogles. I also like that olive branches were given to victors in sports because I feel, what with her pulling Harry and Oliver out, McGonagall has a competitive drive in sports, too. So, it's a nice bonus connection.

Oh, I like. I think James was definitely Holly to his friends and then later on in general, whereas Harry was Holly all along. I do wonder at their wands, then, as Harry's is Holly (as we all well know) and James had Mahogany. Hmmm...

Interesting and fitting. I like that Marigolds also can come in a bright orange-y colour, like Molly's hair, lololololol. But yeah, she's bright and loving, but very, very protective of her family, so I totes agree with the rest, too. It's also parallel to the Lily in Europe (so sayeth wikipedia) in its relation to the dead in Hispanic culture, and I think that's funny, too, as Molly becomes a mother figure to Harry what with Lily's death.

Does this mean that Neville is lucky if he has four heads? LOLOLOLOLOLOL... but I dunno... I always associate the clover with Ireland, so Seamus might be better... he tends to blend in more than Neville does. Neville stands out as first shier than his Gryff peers and then later as BAMF. Seamus, however, sort of just is, for a Gryff boy in Harry's year. But I like the little flower idea and Neville. Cute! <3

I think this fits Fluer really, really, well. I didn't know about the seizures or spasms, but I concur that it really fits Fleur's possibility to overwhelm. I also like how Rosemary is homey, and Fleur really tried to make her cottage by the sea homey when they visted. It seemed quaint and lovely, and aromatic, like this spice/plant.

I really, reall like this. I'd have been unoriginal and gone with something likened to the moon simply because of her name, but I think the clean smell and the unique coloring works perfect for Luna.

[identity profile] prongsy.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, I like this. It also sort of turns on its head the fact that Luna has raddish earings, and now she'll have sunflower seeds, which are also edible, adoring her form. And I especially like the guerilla gardening idea for Luna. She's quirky, that's quirky and fitting.

I also think Luna stands tall against other people's attitudes, she ignores them and turns to follow her own path (which would be the sunflower following the sun).

I can see Bellatrix really working well with burned areas and poisonus. But, I wonder on the medicinal part. I get that she's unpredictable, but that's a beneficial side, and I don't know, I just see her as totally batsh-- and having no positive side effects whatsoever. Otherwise, I really, really like this one!

I really think it's fitting that Tonks would have a plant that comes in many different colours. I also like the idea of attracting allies and repelling pests. She does seem carefree but she is a hard worker and very dedicated to what she believes in. She will stick through any drought, just like this flower. Excellent choice. Is yellow specifically those things or do all the colors have that, too? I ask simply because, while I think she'd explore yellow, I wonder how the other colours reflect her personality as well.

Hermione not only looks after people, but creatures as well, so I find this fitting. I think the colour change also works for her love of gingers, lolololol. I wonder about the syrup connection. Hermione's not too sweet, but then again, she's practical. And like her cooking, I think maple syrup isn't the best straight from the tree, but it can be useful and made into something better.

Wow! That fits Percy perfectly! That description about the flower has a prickly outside that fits Percy very well!

This fits Molly very well! They are both protective and bright and full of energy but you never want to mess with them either!

I see Molly Weasley, as a Dandelion because The dandelion is a perennial, herbaceous plant with long, lance-shaped leaves. They're so deeply toothed, they gave the plant its name in Old French: Dent-de-lion means lion's tooth and you never want to mess with Molly Weasley when she protective or angry. Dandelion root is one of the safest and most popular herbal remedies. The specific name, officinale, means that It's used medicinally. The decoction is a traditional tonic and Molly is very protective and deeply cares about her children. And when the Dandelion's rosetteĆs immature, tightly wrapped leaf bases just above the top of the root form a tight "crown." And Molly is definately the head of the Weasley household.

This fits Tonks very well! They are both very tough and also have that carefree, loving nature! And also that the Yarrow comes in a variety of colors makes it more perfect!

This fits Lily very well! They are both passionate, beautiful and very fiesty because of its thorns! What a great comparison! :D

I have this comparison! The Foxglove are very high-status like Bella's family and very unexpected, just like her. And on the outside, they are both deadly and you don't want to mess with them.

I really like this connection! The plant's colors are Slytherin colors which fits because that was is house and he was a head for it too. And that they are both bitter & uncultivated which it makes it hard for them to open up to others, which fits perfectly with Snape's history.
