Well, Draco wanted to be in it, and was rather put out that he wasn't invited.

It's rather like forbidden fruit or something, isn't it. People who don't have it want it; people who have it don't want it. (Example: the Slug Club party that Harry invited Luna to.) I don't recall anyone actually enjoying modern-day Slug Club meetings.
