Sounds like a good opportunity to recommend some of my favorite local bands to folks beyond Waco, TX...
Brian Douglas is the first recommendation, and he plays pretty, acousticky folk-rock kind of stuff: http://www.myspace.com/briandouglasphillips
Autumn Lights is hands down, one of my favorite bands of all time. They remind me a lot of really mellow instrumental rock bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky, and Kopecky. Kicking butt, with a cello!: http://www.myspace.com/autumnlights
Kopecky is also pretty stuff, if you haven't heard of them before, either, and their site's http://kopecky.8m.com/ (They're more rock than Autumn Lights, but very similar to Explosions).
Ninja Death Accessory is another great band that is more loud indie rock than anything else: http://www.myspace.com/theninjadeathaccessory / / http://www.ninjarock.com
